    Dried ground nasturtiums. Thats interesting. I know of their antibiotic properties but never thought of drying the leaves...

    I look forward to your every post in the Unpacked series. A wonderful and genuinely fascinating mix of historical and fantastical elements looking at a woodcraft that never was. Thank you for making these videos and I very much hope you continue.

    These unpacking videos are simply the best. Here to fore I knew of reeanctment and larping, but to incorporate bushcraft into all of that has got me hooked. Thank you for the introduction to fantasy reenactment.

    Well Met, interesting equipment. What is a Breelander? A simple traveler? I like that you carry dried Nasturtium tiny stems & leaves to make a tea for colds or wound poultice. No Ground seeds?

    Cool man, my buddy got me to read a couple of the books, cause they relate to what we do in real life, going on woodland adventures, cooking over fires, we even use candles most the time and only break out flashlights if we get lost or off trail some, I do carry a bunch of cookware but we are using old military surplus so we aren’t 100% correct lol,

    Nice kit looks like a mixture of 15th and 16th century kit, wouldn´t have put that hook on the pilgrims staff, and if I may add your salt I would put in a wooden container. Yes glass looks better, but wood keeps moister away from the salt. But as I mentioned nice set up. Am myself a reenactor doing the early 17th century, used to do for a long time the late 15th century. PS if I where to go your folks path my personal favorite would be depicting Barliman Butterbur.

    Nasty crack in the staff. Do you think it could be filled with pine sap and resin to fill the gap?

    Are those mushrooms just for medicinal purposes are visions quests

      Neither! They cook up very nicely when re-hydrated in a greasy pan or a pot of boiling soup.

      @@middleearthreenactmentsoc very true. These ones are Bear’s Head Tooth mushrooms. A very tasty mushroom either sautéed or as a soup base.

    Tell me more about that staff. It looks to be more than just a tucker pole.

    • @middleearthreenactmentsoc
      @middleearthreenactmentsoc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is a Medieval "Pilgrim's Staff", which includes a sometimes used hook for carrying the cauldron. They were commonly seen with the two knobs near one end for securing a bag, etc.

      @@middleearthreenactmentsoc So is is a load carrying walking staff, not a quarter staff? I have to admit the hook reminded me of the bent nail in the bottom of Gandalf's staff.

      @@douglasmaccullagh7865 That’s correct. It’s mostly a way to carry stuff that’s not a backpack or over-the-shoulder sling. I have other tools for defense (hence the archer’s bracer, and the long knife)

    • @middleearthreenactmentsoc
      @middleearthreenactmentsoc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Given the descriptions we're given of what the Fellowship carried, we believe Sam's pack would be much more interesting to unpack that Frodo's.
