เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 พ.ค. 2017
The Middle-earth Reenactment Society is dedicated to the furthering of J.R.R. Tolkien cultural studies, within the framework of ‘historical’ reenactment. We exist to recreate the cultures of Middle-earth in both form and function, and to mold ourselves into peoples fitting to associate with and live as these fully-realized cultures.

Great design! What do you keep in the underarm pouch?
Were can I find the linnin sacks and bags
@@The.Scottish.duncan we usually just make them ourselves, they are a great way to learn & practice handsewing basics before moving on to more complex projects
@middleearthreenactmentsoc ok im pretty sure I can do that i am good at lether craft so it shouldn't be to difficult
Me to the cute Lidl cashier:
This is so cool!
I would have the waxed linen bag outside the blanket to keep it dry.
Please tell me where you got that eating awl
You didn't show the sword... 😢
Where did you get this stuff?
Well Met, interesting equipment. What is a Breelander? A simple traveler? I like that you carry dried Nasturtium tiny stems & leaves to make a tea for colds or wound poultice. No Ground seeds?
well met Ranger
I enjoyed watching this. Thank you for sharing it!
There's some serious money in that kit!
No vienna sausages or potted meat?
tip for knocks, burning in with hot wire can fire harden to prevent splitting
That was impressive and enjoyable.
Glad to see these guys uploading content again.
These youngin’s and their fancy, modern “ultralight” gear.
Excellent. I am not nearly cool enough to do this but I enjoy watching, thank you for the awesome video.
Wow such a nice kit
Wow, I'd need a lie down after carrying that, haha. Looks lovely and warm.
You may be surprised at how little the bundle weighs! It's warm enough to get you through the night but certainly not a great nights sleep.
Wow, such a lot of really evocative detail
no fire?
No fire for a few reasons. Firstly there are no solid fuel fires allowed in the national park I was in and secondly, one night of this trip was scheduled to be spent above the treeline where there simply isn't anything to burn. The decision was made to make cold camp and eat cold trail food both nights. Experience has shown fire in the wild is a tricky thing. It's hard to build one big enough to truly keep you warm and if enemies are nearby it acts like a beacon and ruins your night vision.
I always love seeing these videos
is it possible to add links to where we can purchase some of this kit? like the blankets and tent pegs?
I second this idea! Hell even a vid talking about what the things to look for in quality gear would be amazing.
Most of our members gear is either home made or made to order from various artists around the world. The tent pegs shown here are based on a roman example from Hedemünden. Several different replicas were trialed but all found to be too heavy to justify inclusion. These particular pegs were purchased from a German merchant named Peraperis. The blankets were part of a commission from a European weaver. If you wanted to explore something similar then the Georgian merchant Oldcraft should be able to help. Just remember to specify if you want a tight weave for really cold conditions - the key to keeping warm is to try and created a warm pocket of air around you (usually with a looser weave blanket) which is then trapped in with the heavy weave blanket in the same way a modern down jacket works. I hope this helps.
That kit is most excellent and I especially appreciate the pack. Well done!
Ok this is a fun channel.
Amazing amount of work guys and I'm certainly jealous, but no life jackets? A bit irresponsible? Especially wearing woollen clothes, you would sink like a stone.
What a great bit of work. Craftsmanship, detail, and excellent composition. Well done and keep at it.
Thank you!
Wow.
Absolutely fantastic!
🤩🤩🤩👍🏻
You continue to inspire, amazing
this was just wonderful to watch
Thank you! We had a wonderful time on this adventure.
Boats yes kayaks not so much
Add flint and steel to a tinder pouch on a belt. Add a good knife to the belt as well. Need a water carrier so add. a wood, leather or pottery flask.
You will find these in the other videos of the series. Enjoy!
another sick video i always like the small character touches like having a wallet with coin or mail just makes it feel more real
Just to point out, while the dwarven letter is beautiful, Khuzdul is a secret language to be used only among kin and thus, quite unlikely to appear in correspondence with a "Man of Rohan".
Many cultures in Middle-earth use the Cirth runic alphabet, which is written phonetically and as such can be used to write in virtually any language.
Very cool! What would the dwarven key be used for?
Accessing a hidden hoard that this particular persona owns and has stashed his collected riches in for some time.
Thanks so much for sharing. I needed this bit of wonder early this morning.
We all need a bit of wonder in our lives every now and again!
You guys are simply the best. Thank you and please continue.
Nice Kit!
Great! Could you give the source for the bone cloak pin please? Is it historical? I really liked it and it would be a great project.
Hi Kevin glad you like it. The pin itself is a generic bone pin not based on any particular find but such pins were common male dress accessories in the early middle ages. They are quite simple to make, I have had to whittle a few wooden replacements on the trail when I have lost mine in the past.
My only beef would be the diary. Id always imagined the vast majority of rohans citizens to be illiterate?
It I guess he's not?
A fair point. As part of the persona creation for Eofor I had to come up with a plausible reason a man from Rohan would be out in the greater world for we know that at the time of the War of the Ring they are a very closeted people. A matter of personal honour has caused him to wander far from Rohan for many years and in that time he has picked up a few non cultural traits his countrymen would find strange.
🤔...whats hanging off his left hip?
To be shown in further content, unpacking more aspects of this kit!
Really neat clothing and kit, well done!
🤩🤩🤩👍🏻
This video about the Rohan man was great mate, especially with the Dwarven add-ons have a like from me 👍
What a wonderful kit! Thank you for sharing! ❤
4:22 comb that beard. Comb the beard...yes! Thank you for sharing the nice kit.
That tool roll is great. How long can you stay out with that kit?
Thanks! If the food bags are fully stocked, the hope is up to a week without resupply or supplemental hunting, both of which could add on to the time.
