- How to reset your self adjusting clutch pressure plate with standard tools and hardware you can find anywhere.
All hardware purchased from Home Depot
1/2” x 8” Galvanized carriage bolt - $
1/2” Torque Washer -
1/2” Hex Nut
1/2” Washer
3/4” Washer
Be sure not to over tighten and don’t put any extra force on the springs they move very easy.
I dealt with self adjusting pressure plate for the 1st time this past weekend.... After watching a few videos and with limited tools, i eventually used only the park bench lol... Yes park bench in my yard that had thick wooden seat.... Placed the pressure plate on top with 3 x same size small sockets evenly placed under the outer edge of the cover of the plate.... Centered it in the gap between the seats, long thickish bolt from underneath pressing against the bottom of the seat, old bearing , washer on top with nut and turned the nut with my wrench..... Once i found the sweet spot moved the pin anticlockwise, held it in the reset position opposite the marked colored dots on the cover while releasing pressure... Job done 😊 ...... No need for the flywheel and clutch plate to be present
I hammered the adjustment from the side of the pressure plate, did that 3 times, no issues

Man, I used a hammer and a good size flathead screwdriver and it works

What the heck so your tellin me I could have had a buddy sit in the driver seat push the clutch and done this through my bell hosing inspection hole? Heh ain’t no way!

A new clutch disk on an old pressure plate? That’s really depending on use it could last as long as the original or it could be only a few Ks. Make sure you do a proper break in for a new clutch disk.

My mini truck makes a noise between each gear.... When pressing the clutch.... It's a luck clutch kit and a socks flywheel
If you but them new atleast the bmw ones come with a locking plate which pushes the clutch down. Why is that needed?

This particular clutch was an Audi clutch. Almost all the self adjusting clutches are reset in a similar fashion.
Why doesn't it come preset from factory this is insane lol thaught there wasn't a way to do it without the tool
New ones should be reset. But if you pull off a pressure plate and put a new disk in or something else you need to reset the pressure plate.
Do you have to do it to new pressure plates or are they already set?
New plates should be reset already.

but what about sachs or valeo. Their resetting mechanisms are hidden and not so simple.
Your not supposed to reset the self adjustment in them. Sachs SAC is internal and Valeo uses a wormwheel on a gear for its adjustment
