It's not planet America anymore
@@dessmith7658 it isn't the planet of putania either
1) Why should USA take the main burden? There is obligation via NATO? but not to bear the main burden, surely?
2) Also, don't forget, in WWII, they were not concerned with helping the rest of the world preserve democracy and sovereignty against Hitler - until Japan attacked Pearl Harbour. Australia/NZ, India and Canada all helped the UK, but America didn't.
P.S. I am so heartened about the US Charity sending so much food to Gaza.
How much would USA be affected by a Russian Europe?
Even China is softening the Communism. North Korea is the only hard-line communist dictatorship that I know of. Non-communist China seems a far bigger threat, plus Iran.
I know USA hated communism, but would Russia re-impose communism? If they did, how would USA be threatened by that? I never did understand the hysteria about the expansionist greed of Communist Russia.
USA did plenty of expanding (through sneaky means) and now practically has an empire, despite that breaking their Constitution.@@dessmith7658
Our government? It’s one faction of psychos.
It is simply the stupidest thing to fail to provide what they need to convince Putler he can never win this.
For Ukraine all the way
I know both Finland, Norway, and Sweden are preparing - in case. Denmark has seminars on how to survive for at least 3 days. All thanks to Mike Johnson, head of house of congress and company. The US people in power has no idea about the damage to the rest of the world they are causing - this is devastating.
Johnston stonewalling aid to Ukraine will cause irreparable damage to the stature of the US.

@@ckslifeandtravels9352other gov. same gameplan
@@robertmiskey5502 There is no popular mandate in the US for continuing on in Ukraine, none. It's deeply unpopular among the electorate, so it is rich with irony when one hears about the necessity of the United States and NATO to defend "democracy" when it's becoming increasingly clear that the US and the main powers within NATO have no respect for democracy at home. The stature of the US abroad couldn't be any lower.

Greetings from Canada! I listen to this pod everyday and very much appreciate the efforts ofTelegraph staff. We have been too soft on Putin ever since we let him get away with Ossetia in 2008. Outgoing President was a dunce, and the incoming President was clueless about foreign policy.

It all comes down to this: do we want to live in a democratic society or not? Do we defend our way of life or not? We already have the 1930s precedent of what happens when democratic societies in Europe start to get invaded. If we don't man up, decide exactly what we want and act on that, things are going to get a lot, lot worse and many more lives will be lost. The axis solidifying between Russia, China, Iran and North Korea is very sinister indeed.
I imagine i could possibly live with less democracy, but i really don't like rape and torture, so i need democracy so people like me en masse can vote them out.

Hi guys, long term listener to the pod, find your insights fascinating and like to keep up to date on what's happening on the Battlefield. Dom mentioned the retiring of the Apache D heli from the British military, was there ever a consideration to donate any of those to Ukraine? Just a though that crossed my mind while listening. Keep up the excellent work.
NICE here France. Expat. Yep, the mood here is mixed (there’s a huge Russian expat community in NICE, we even have our own Russian Orthodox Cathedral here). Lots and lots of Ukrainians here too. It’s a subject that isn’t really talked about that much, but I think generally speaking people understand that it might be necessary to send French troops. The reaction I’ve got is yes, send French troops in, but only if other European countries send theirs in too, so I’m guessing if Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania Poland go for it, then it’s pretty much a given France will jump in.
Thing is, Eastern Europe is in the range of Kalibr nuke rockets, and France is not. Yet. However, the popular opinion here is that putin is to be intimidated, not appeased. Threat is the only language he understands and respects. Serious threat.
We have to stop worrying about this Nuke business. If Russia uses anything like that then it would be ‘bye bye civilisation’. They, along with everyone else would cease to exist. We have to stop allowing ourselves to be led by Putin in this way. He’s a thug and full of bullshit.
One way or another, the EU must work all together in good coordination.Otherwise it will conduct right to a disaster if they don't.

Are we ready for negotiations? Yes, we are ready. But only we are ready for negotiations, not based on some "wishes" after the use of psychotropic drugs, but based on the realities that have developed, as they say in such cases, on the ground. It is ridiculous of us to negotiate now just because they are running out of ammunition. Nevertheless, we are ready for a serious conversation, and we want to resolve all conflicts, and even more so this conflict by peaceful means. But we must clearly and distinctly understand for ourselves that this is not a pause that the enemy wants to take for rearmament, but a serious conversation with guarantees for the security of the Russian Federation. We know the various options that are being discussed, we know the "carrots" that are going to be shown to us in order to convince us that the moment has come. We want, I repeat once again, to resolve all disputes and this dispute, this conflict, by peaceful means. And we are ready for that, we want that. But this should be a serious conversation with security for the opposing side, and in this case we are primarily interested in the security of the Russian Federation. We will proceed from this.
I disagree with Dom, it is in our interests for Russia to loose in Ukraine, but if Russia wins, it is also in our interests for Russia to have as difficult a time in Ukraine as possible. A delay of 5 years while Russia is rebuilding it's army could make all the difference for us.
Some of the western leaders are not taking this threat seriously and if something goes wrong they'll not be ready to take the blame.
"Western" as in old White Christian Colonial powers? The people who enslaved Africans, sold them as slaves to USA, force converted native people into jesus-worshiping, plundered their land? They are all rotting from inside. Democrats are gutting USA with illegal latinos and BLM. UK has a Indian Hindooo PM, Pakistani Muslim mayor of London... why would any one want to invade this rotting countries? Russia/China/Iran do not have any of these.

I'm a very regular listener of your podcast from France (well, I'm in Belgium, but I'm French). I think that Macron's position is aligned with France's interest. Of course, it's easier for him to states that Le Pen is a Putin's supporter, but he could do it without the need of being heard internationally. What matters is that France has been trying to push for more independance from the US for years .. this was not well understood, but now with the risk of having Russia being so agressive outside its 1991 borders, and the risk of having Trump back at the White House, this position makes a lot of sense. It's better to rely on your own army, your own industry, rather than relying on external support. The language of Macron, and of France, has been consistent, it was simply not audible just 3 years ago when war was only for third world countries or nostalgic european colonial powers. Well, to rephrase the Beatles, we're back to the time of the USSR .. 1980 .. I was just 7, but the perspective for me as a boy was to go to Germany for my military service. When I turned 18, my father took me to a trip to Prague, and I've seen Russian soldiers selling their medals. The idea of war had simply disappeared for nearly 30 years in Europe, and very few country stated they need to have an army, as the US will always be there to protect us. I'm glad we've maintain certain capabilities .. they are today our life insurance against Putin. Frederic

The reason America dropped the Global Hegemone Regional Security ball is that all US policy, foreign policy and domestic policy, is guided by political principal of "How do we make sure rich people stay rich" Almost all American politician wake up with this question at front of mind and go to bead that way. So, when Putin started his massive invasion of Ukraine the American policy establishment asked "Russia has invaded, how does this impact keeping rich people rich?" and the answer was "I guess we buy a fair amount of weapons over a long period of time" Not how do we defeat Putin, or secure Ukraine and Europe or bolster NATO.

The ascension of Trump as the Republican nominee has brought a new confidence and vulgarity to Putin's answers. Europe needs to morph into a self-leading entity...and they need get it done before Trump is elected.

Macron may be the most vocal on this, but it's simply because he sees himself as a statesman ... his rhetoric is rarely backed up with his country's or European funding and action though. Loath Trump, but was correct to say it's time some western states stepped up and paid their share
