You know, if you're gonna do a diorama with water, you might aswell go all out and do a fording test like some experiental tank at Aberdeen or a tiger II at the Henschel plant.
You say that was a disaster but you know - the tannin from leaves actually do leach into patchy slushy snow making a dirty mess IRL so the end result seems pretty alright to me. So I would say it's a Bob Ross style happy little accident.
I dunno... I spend a lot of time in the forest even when it snows and I haven't ever noticed something like that. Maybe it happens in very small amounts, not like what happened here. Next time I'll give the Gravel fixer several hours to fully dry so it won't happen again :)
@@NightShiftScaleModels You could use the colour leaching to your advantage - snow caught in ruts or on the side of the road would probably get a lot of dirt and mud thrown up on it.

@@NightShiftScaleModels A well traveled road during wartime could be real dirty and trampled from dismounted soliders. It gives the model more mystery! It could be next to a village recently fought over. Way better than pure white! War is messy!

I used to build model when I was a teenager (like 20 y ago), not of nice quality and I make lots of them. During first corona pandemic I decided to revive my old hobby and try to add some next level techniques and realism to the models, thank you for sharing you tips and advice really really thankful to you! ;)

I have a video recommendation: tools and equipment all armour modellers must have eg. Paints brush sizes and things like that

What I've learned is that you can spend 5 minutes with a brush or 5 hours with an air brush to get the same effect. But air brushs are cool! No real modeller uses a regular brush! Whatever.

Ahhhh, the tannins leached from the leaves.....
Exactly, the alcohol-based Gravel fixer messed with them. Next time I'll leave them to dry overnight and maybe hit them with a coat of flat varnish to be safe.

While watching you forget how tiny the whole piece is because of the great amount of detail. It's fantastic. I haven't the skill to make something as amazing as this, so it's almost painful to watch. As I'd give almost anything to have a piece of Art like this to display in my home. I particularly love the Stug. III AUSF. B, it was an amazing weapon that was greatly underestimated during the war, and caused severe damage to the Allied forces. Anyhow, it's a great diorama. I'm envious.

Keep in mind I have basically nothing fancy like putty or textured paints (e.g. your mud paints) or plastic sheets
@@coupergiuliano7486 try 2 part epoxy putty, like Kneadatite (aka Green Stuff).

To be fair, with tanks running over a dirt road the nearby snow's not going to stay white very long. Awesome build and Merry Christmas!
Don't eat the yellow acrylic snow.
Once i build a Ft17 in 3 hours
for those who have cracking problems with air dry clay: knead it with pva glue. it will make it more elastic and will prevent the cracking!

I am an RC airplane modeler and watching your videos inspired me to weather a 1/6 scale Stuka I am building....just a novice but the change in the planes appearance is amazing. I'm hooked!!!! Just ordered a Meng 1/35 French FT-17 Light Tank model kit and going to try assembling an armor kit for the first time. Thank you for the fantastic videos and the amazing work you do!!!!!

Stug III model B, one of my favorite tanks, but I prefer the G. My favorite tank destroyer of all is the SU-85.

Hello. I’m surprised this hasn’t been said. Those trees look exactly like American tulip tree. Unfortunately, those don’t grow in Europe.
I came here for the chippingkkk!! Where is it??? That being said. You are a Jedi and inspiring. Loved the jagdtiger. Makes me self conscious about starting my own. Keep up the amazing work. Maybe build a js-2 in the battle of Berlin next.

I found no models. I found enough money to both refinance and upgrade my 3D printer and buy something for the hobby in the future. Maybe a precise soldering station from Weller? Ore al lathe? Or both when the next paycheck arrives 😂. Anyways, I hope I get to the modeling in the holidays, have a good end of 2020 an a way better 2021! See ya!
Looks smart that base! I'm looking to do a winter snow scene for a couple of builds ! Well my new kits from santa were the Meng Ft17 in 1.35 full interior one with char b turret one and the copper state models Ww1 Romfell armour car and the Belgian Minerva! the new RFM challenger 2 kit Scots Dragoons one, mengs Sonny boy Willie's jeep and the kv1 trum heavy cast turret and hobby boss T26 oh and a wee Eduard spitfire from my wee cousin! This is the first year anyone has ever got me any kits I'm very happy!
I have built my first diorama ever in 1:100 scalefor 3 days. Today is The 4th day od building and i'm just checking that is epoxy resin good

Seriously Mig AK Wilder vallejo Tamiya etc should be paying you. (go's and buys Mig wash for german dark yellow) Their are tons of products out their and people are naturally Leary when it comes to buying and using them . Luckily we have good old Night Shift to buy, test and show us all how to use them.

Hi nightshift. Have you tried baking soda and deluted pva. Looks kinda like fluffy snow.
"Don't eat yellow snow!" I wouldn't see the discolouration as a problem. Wet fallen leaves have the same effect on snow in nature, so that was rather a "happy accident" (RIP Bob Ross). In the end it's a nice diorama with the cutest StuG I ever saw.
White is my favorite camo schema. Any ideas for an UN tank like e.g. Leopard 1A3DK? Would be a great model to make. I have to make such in the future.
