Does anyone remeber: an owner of a big successful machine shop(?) out in California made a dual rotor helicopter that he said anyone could learn ro fly in less than an hour. he referred to it as a commuter helicopter for traveling the airways between cars & airplanes. it was featured on Discovery TV probably over 5 years ago?
This contra rotating configuration is for a reason you won't get any simpler than this, the gearbox inbetween the rotors is a reversing unit for the lower rotor only, the top rotor is direct from the drive.
What about autorotation? How do you dump collective and forward cyclic if the engine quits? Should you make out your will before you go up? How do you spell hairball aviation?
This, is a great little machine , notably roter is a very attractive idea , however , no cyclic ? Collective ? I would like to know more ( I am a commercial pilot, aircraft ,multi - engine , complicated single engine , acrobatic endorsed )
Where did you get your coaxial gear box from?? I need a few of those making my own is taking up way to much time when i'lm not sick in bed. Anyway help will be great. May the Gods bless us all some more then others.
I wonder if using concentric drive shaft and belt drive such as the way the very first paraplanes counter rotated its 2 pusher props would be simpler than this really sophisticated transmission?
The heart of this machine is the planetary coaxial gearbox between the rotors. an expensive complicated unit to make. beyond the realms of the home constructer. thats what this machine is all about....Curtis
Yes,expensive and complicated, but very nice,we need someone like the designer of the Mosquito,he is one of those people that has the ability to simplify complex assembly's,in both cost and manufacturing.
Quite possibly the most well flown home-made aircraft that I have ever seen, great job, however, the cyclic of the blades puts them too close to eachother for me to deem this safe to fly. I bet larger rudders would be more responsive and placing the rotors further apart would make this safer to fly. Love it!
@Eddie Hitler I assumed they're fixed in collective pitch but is there no cyclic? He seems to steer using a stick for a reason so there's clearly some control scheme involved that makes the rotors tilt with their tips nearing one another
Just what we all need. A helicopter anybody can fly. The caveat is, a helicopter that anybody can fly, but a helicopter that Isn't capable of Autorotations. I don't want to hear about two engines. Not taking that chance with one, two cycle engine LMAOoooo. Thanks for posting it was good entertainment anyway.
I read it was supposed to have a ballistic parachute installed in a production variant, also how many times do you see a helicopter successfully auto rotate to a safe landing, virtually never, that's because the only time its possibly is due to a perfect engine out scenario with a perfect altitude and no other mechanical complications effecting the incident - which hardly ever happens. It's mostly wishful thinking and a coping strategy.
Had a nice talk with the Brothers, It's safe because of the twin engines, I said not if you gas up with contaminated fuel.. That got their brains thinking... Interestng machine
I love it..I want to know if there’s a foot pedal.. if there is, then can you make a video on what’s its function in coaxial helicopter.. or just show pressing it and which part moves or explain what happens..
The foot pedals control hard left and right turns via the rudders at the rear of the rotor wash and also the left and right tilt of the rotor head 'swash plate' equivalent device just underneath the rotors.
It basically is a gyro rotor head. Gyros don't need counter rotating blades since they are unpowered. But build a model and find out how well it works.
As i have siad before the eccence of that machine is the planetary reversing gear box between the rotors it is difficult to make. theres no mystery about it .. . Peter
WITH A FIXED PITCH ROTOR SYSTEM YOU are betting on an absolutely 100%reliable engine running, never ever ever fail, there will always be something, out of fuel, a bad spark plug, any hiccup absolutely guarantees a sad day for your family and anyone watching, any machine you build should be capable of auto rotation,
Please correct me if i'm wrong, but an autogyro is fixed pitch, yet it autorotates just fine. Wouldn't this one be the same as long as it's able to pick up sufficient speed?
Congratulations on successfully testing professional piloting 🙏💯🙏👍

I wish I could get a close inspection of thoes rotors.
how much is the mtow of the helicopter?
What about autorotation? How do you dump collective and forward cyclic if the engine quits? Should you make out your will before you go up? How do you spell hairball aviation?
YOU DONT
It had twin birth engines from memory and you don't go forward cyclic......
i wonder if there is a one man chopper that works best in strong wind?
This, is a great little machine , notably roter is a very attractive idea , however , no cyclic ? Collective ? I would like to know more ( I am a commercial pilot, aircraft ,multi - engine , complicated single engine , acrobatic endorsed )
How to be the way the work of transmission of the propeller blades and how their movement if possible without Traffic

6:01 wow those blades are close. Put 2 more feet between the upper and lower blades. That thing is scary!
They spin offset, they're always clear of each other.
@@Veldtian1 Offset? they spin opposite to each other.
@@segredosdotiosam9989 I meant they're offset at right angle to each other in the horizontal plane so they only meet at the 12 o' clock position.
@@Veldtian1 well. Anything spinning in opposite direction will meet one in every rotation. what is your point ?
I wonder if using concentric drive shaft and belt drive such as the way the very first paraplanes counter rotated its 2 pusher props would be simpler than this really sophisticated transmission?
It's the rotor reversing gearbox between the rotors that is the heart of this thing, there's no simpler way of doing it
my question is if this is equipped with a crutch would it not be able to auto rotate during engine failure like a gyrocopter?
no auto rotation, a ballistic chute.
The heart of this machine is the planetary coaxial gearbox between the rotors. an expensive complicated unit to make. beyond the realms of the home constructer. thats what this machine is all about....Curtis

I wonder if you could use and adapt a counter rotating gearcase from a boat outdrive assy?? Like a Mercruiser Bravo unit?? Just a thought.
Hi,
I need your advice
I’m starting to build my coaxial helicopter so I would beg you for pictures of your coaxial gearbox on the rotor.
Thank you
Dad statement of the year:
"yeah, well?.."
I bet that thing had awesome yaw authority. No LTE problems with that thing.
Funcionou bonito bem, o senhor sabe bem o manejo, 🇧🇷👍 parabéns..
That's one way to get over the fence.
Thomas even the bloke that built the Mosqiuto cant simplifiey this unit

That is absolutely fantastic. Can you tell me who to contact to purchase one or get the plans........I gotta have one!!!!!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamov :)
What you have super cool. Thanks for the video .
Gets who the helicopter pilot, he lifted the blades so he doesn't lose any more hair
Haha, yeah quite possibly but you'd have to ask him nicely..!

Nice and cool! But, how about the autorotation, beeing a fixed pitch rotor?
I read it was supposed to have a ballistic parachute installed in a production variant, also how many times do you see a helicopter successfully auto rotate to a safe landing, virtually never, that's because the only time its possibly is due to a perfect engine out scenario with a perfect altitude and no other mechanical complications effecting the incident - which hardly ever happens. incredible , and my dream for the future
No you cannot use a contra rotating Mercruiser unit as Sub. the unit on this machine is unique and purpose built. no short cut sadley Curtis
I'm actually not sure. I wasn't there when this video was taken. It was on an old VHS tape that had some other home movies on it.
joekenha Please give more information about this one, thank's.
Please engine name and cc
Is it fixed pitch totor blades?? you are controling the plane of rotation for balancing??
watch this video on a bigger screen than your mobile phone has and you will see that it has all what it takes: cyclic & collective & pedals
its great chopper you made
How does it make yaw?
Nolan Brothers?
+Cameron Carter yep it is.....i like the concept but the disk tilt on a pair that close together.....don't think CAA would let that one pass muster
Had a nice talk with the Brothers, It's safe because of the twin engines, I said not if you gas up with contaminated fuel.. That got their brains thinking... Interestng machine
What motors are used ?
I see 2 ?
this reminds me of that time I teleported.
Apparantly at the time of all this the Noland bros were told by thier Lawyers not to talk about the contra rotating gear box,
amazing , got to love it , but those blades look close at times
My bad. I didn't think it would be controllable.
it is good and for sale contact pure@bell.net

Surley there is no "swash plate " as we know it Jim, the whole rotor system tilts sideways or forward and back, there are no pitch changing.
@@cloudusterable You're right, I said "equivalent device".
would this rotor system work on a gyrocopter?
It basically is a gyro rotor head. Gyros don't need counter rotating blades since they are unpowered. But build a model and find out how well it works.
Quero o projeto para fazer um igual.
Different flights.
queria fabricar o meu tambem, poderia me ajudar?

*KAMOV: The Early Years* 😊
Great machine, but its not simple, theres more in it than you think
Fly like the wind bullseye
Muito bom. Teria o projeto pra venda?
Was this Helicopter designed and built by two brothers? I saw a machine similar to this in Oshkosh in the mid 90's
The Nolan Bros.
As i have siad before the eccence of that machine is the planetary reversing gear box between the rotors it is difficult to make. theres no mystery about it .. . Peter
legal mesmo quem nunca
sonhou voando né
Cool, I wonder if it still Flies?
the upper and lower blades is too near be carefull,,, but nice coax..cheers
That was great Kate!!
Was it capable of forward flight?
Are you capable of seeing it fly forward in this video? Like just after it took off and flew over the fence?
Main rotor is too fast spinning,a little mor of improvement is necessary
That's some real Mad Max type s*** right there that is look out for the dam cows
Fixed pitch! Yes please.
Mon rêve…

Great job! Contact me if you are willing to sell the plans
machine is 4 sale contact pure@bell.net
Ps and you cant simplyfie it
Nice,,Forgot to said its Co-axial
Building a machine like this is above and beyond the average Joe. so get any ideas.
I love hele but I am is able to pay for it. can you guaid me and I make home made hele. can you help me about my life dream.
real nice
Good
