Such a lifesaver! My computer was requiring me to enter a key that I didnt have... during college finals week... while studying abroad... You can only imagine the relief when I was able to get back to my course work!
This is one of most disturbing fucking things I have ever seen, this just happened to a friend yesterday, she lost everything. She never made a Microsoft account, never set up Bitlocker with her local Windows account, nothing. Yesterday she turned on the computer, "Enter the recovery key for this drive." This is beyond ridiculous; I am so glad I am on Linux.

On an Asus ROG laptop where I had activated BitLocker this happened recently after a BIOS (UEFI) update. I had the password kept safe on a backup disk. In just happy I never use the Microsoft Sign-In for anything. They have too MUCH private information on the cloud... just waiting to be cracked by pirates.

This is one of the reason I like Linux so much and been using it as an secondary OS for years, because microsoft just locks your computer up and holds your files hostage until you log into something. This is just sad and nothing comparable to this has happened to me on Linux :/

I personally prefer Veracrypt (which is a fork of Truecrypt). Why use a probably compromised solution such as Bitlocker when you have good alternatives available?
Agreed, this is more of a solution for folks that has this automatically do this for them. Microsoft is automatically turning bitlocker on when a Microsoft account is connected (using the store for example) and the laptop has a TPM chip. It's pretty messed up and caught me off guard at work this year.

I have had my IT guy working on this for 3 weeks, locked out of work PC, some info was stupidly not backed up, and have been told its lost forever. So had one final couple of hours scouring the web and now WOW! - Got into the area required straight away, keys shown, I haven't tried it yet as my PC is currently elsewhere, but it looks like we are good to go as the Bit locker key was presented to me. I was supposed to edit a short film for a school project while driving back home from a vacation but then this bitlocker came up, 2hrs of transportation where I could possibly finish the film or somehow make progress wasted. Glady I came across this video immediately when I got back home. I was scared that my files might get deleted (it didn't) anyway second option worked for me! Thank you so much!!
Having my recovery key, I was entering one number row at a time. *Hour goes by* Does extensive research and views videos. Gets into bios enables, disabled almost throws computer out window. Stressed because this happened one day before school… I entered the whole Key into the box and it seems to have worked.. thankfully I didn’t lose any files!

Super helpful just odd that this randomly happens after an update essentially bricking your computer because you weren’t even aware of it in the first place. If only Microsoft informed you of an active recovery key as often as OneDrive notifications ugh
Thanks for the help. I had major issues with Bestbuy, HP, and Microsoft. They all failed miserably and pointed me to their buddies to make more cash. I have switched this nonsense off because it just triggered itself. Disgusting.
Thanks to this video I managed to recover my key and I turned Bit Locker off because I don't need it. I was freaking scared of losing my data and what not.

But once we see that Bitlocker screen, we cannot go into Windows to disable it. And what is the device was not registered to the MS account?
Had a family member come to me with this exact problem. Had no way of helping them since they forgot their Microsoft account login.

what about if your PC doesn't have a MS account just a local account?
You must keep the password safe somewhere OUTSIDE that computer.
Save to PDF and put on a thumb drive and print out the recovery key.
You don't just have to choose one backup 😉

My Apple ID locked and I don’t my Apple ID password and my recovery key as well any help pls I’m using iPhone X

Super helpful just odd that this randomly happens after an update essentially bricking your computer because you weren’t even aware of it in the first place. If only Microsoft informed you of an active recovery key as often as OneDrive notifications ugh

Thanks for the help. I had major issues with Bestbuy, HP, and Microsoft. They all failed miserably and pointed me to their buddies to make more cash. I have switched this nonsense off because it just triggered itself. Disgusting.
Thanks to this video I managed to recover my key and I turned Bit Locker off because I don't need it. I was freaking scared of losing my data and what not.

Thank you, it really worked. I just visite microsoft support, login in my microsoft acct and viewed devices and there i found my loooooong recovery code. Again, thankyou. The copy of my thesis was recovered because of this tutorial. God bless!
