  • Had fun recreating this aphex twin track. In the spirit of the original track I used primarily hardware and recorded it to cassette. Some bits are different due to limitations of my equipment or due to creative direction :)

      I watched an interview of Mike Paradinas ( he collabed with AFX, they like best matez). He was saying that in the early days. They would use Atari computer and save to floppy disk. You pretty much had to complete a whole track in one day, and then record to DAT, because if you tried to save to floppy . They were so unreliable, it would either corrupt the file. Or sound completely different when you loaded it back up the next day. I so couldn't work like that. Nightmare. Massive respect to the boys back in the day.

      I don't really think the programming is that extraordinary on this one, as long as you've got a reliable sequencer. The thing that makes the tune nice is rather its simplicity and the beautiful interplay of the melodic lines.

      To be fair. Floppy were terribly unreliable. I remember Amiga games would be constantly crashing.
      If I was writing music. And the only way to save was onto floppy. I think I'd be inclined to get it finished asap. And record straight to press instead.

      @@DigitalBard1 I started with Noisetracker 2.0 on the Amiga 500 and it was floppies only. They don't change sound lol. It's just digital info. Maybe they had unreliable analog gear to play back the tracks on?

    This and Silverside by Autechre are the only tracks I loved 20 years ago that I still enjoy as much today.
    Well, I still need to listen to Crystal Method's High Roller in the last mile of every marathon I run...
    I wish the milk man would deliver my milk ... in the mor-nin! ... that's just a guilty pleasure. And Avril 14th is only 19 years old, so that doesn't count.

    Brilliant cover, this is 99.9% dead on! I want to also thank you for giving the Gaia some credit, it is by far my favorite Analog Modeling synth and a lot of people don't do it justice on youtube demos and make others think it's a shitty toy. You really know how to use it well for those prophet like pad sounds I love making. You're incredibly talented and I wish I had your dedication and skill.

    Very nice, shows how little you really need in the end to make nice music. Only thing I noticed could be fixed is removing the slight silence from the start of the lazer sample, it makes it play a bit late.

      its like the easiest shit ever haha. Just start. Get FL STUDIO and work from there. If you want hardware find an old Korg electribe.

    Fantastic. Pads need to come in a little quicker - shorter attack - and the bassline is missing that huge sub note. Reckon you could have used even more saturation too! But these are all minor quibbles, f-ing so good! ✊

      little error i noticed (which may have been intentional) is that the main synth melody is up/up/down/up rather than up/down/down/up (@4:19). cant think of a better way to describe it but if you know the song and watch this video i'm sure it'll become evident haha
      he did a great job on it though, there was stuff in the mix i didnt realize was there

    @ 4 : 13 in the original a group STARTS off with a variation to kicks and a syncopated slap back on the snare that really grabs me so not sure if that is here? great UNCONVENTIONAL mixing also which has "I MAKE THE RULES AROUND HERE" written all over it. there is no I better play it safe here during mastering and how is someone going to interpret this kind of stuff= FOLK MUSIC

      i imagine he did not have the suncussion back then...you can do this with any synth in self oscilating mode..just crank the resonance and screw with the cutoff

      RDJ used the Roland R8 drum machine with the Electronic Card for TR-808 sounds. The zap sound in question on the kit is called ‘High Q’ and is an emulation of the sound the TR-808 Accent output spits out to trigger other equipment
