- The programmed drums on this track were sick, so I decided to learn them. Very chill tune! Huge thanks to Lenny Vitulli for letting me record this at his place. I tried out the blindfolded approach too cause, why not? Single shot/take.

Thanks! It actually semi-helped to keep me focused on remembering all the parts and not distract myself visually. Plus it's TH-cam, where gimmicks mean more than drumming (sadly), so why not.

Dude I programme beats. I have tried to work a drum kit a couple of times.. Some one actually playing glitching is freaking awesome reguardless of what's on their face / head / hands...

This is possibly one of the best drum covers i have ever seen and its a blindfolded one take cover of a song with programmed glitch drums and its near on if not fucking perfect

Amazing performance tho.
This is truly impressive. When Aphex Twin produced Flim in 1997 he made that track with drum machines and computers, it was not played live like this. To be this perfect for such difficult drum patterns that were made with drum machines......I'm speechless, this was just perfection.
I believe Richard used a Drum breaks that he tweaked and chopped so It was originally played by a human. But yeah that drummer is awesome !

When I clicked on your video, I was convinced that it was going to be the kind of drum cover where the drummer rushes to fit all of the beats in at the right time, at the expense of the feel of the song. But man was I wrong. You're hitting everything perfectly, and yet the song still sounds smooth and chilled. Very well done.

Oh yea, I love the feel of the song exactly how it is so I aimed to match it accordingly. If you want to learn it, you definitely should! My left hand couldn't play this at first either, but if you practice it you can learn it. Try practicing at a slower tempo, slow enough to where it isn't even challenging..then slowly build up from there. Developing a solid muscle memory at slower tempos helps tons for when you do play faster.

I first heard this song as a freshman in highschool tripping on DXM as me and friends took a trip up to the mountains to snowboard. Was a great trip.

Last week I saw this again, and went and bought drums and have been having the time of my life over the last week and am completely addicted to drums. Thank you so much for this video, you have no idea how it has fundamentally changed my life. I see you're in live bands now, touring, I wish you all the success in the world man.

Thanks! I just listen to whatever song or thing I'm trying to learn however many times it takes to memorize, all while analyzing the drum part. It makes things easy being able to put the "where I'm at in the song" thinking on autopilot when playing, then I'm free to just think about drum stuff, or pizza.
Thanks for the tips! I’ve wanted to drum since I was like 8 yrs old and I’m 25 haha finally got an ekit a month ago. Been playing consistently 3-4 hrs after work everyday. Guys like RDJ, Zach hill, and shit even you with this video (that I saw a few yrs back also) have been a huge inspiration for me. So I just wanted to say thanks! Someday I hope to be on your level.

@@alistairdunnington i think it just switched from 16th notes to 8th note triplets (essentially 3 8th notes when there would’ve normally been 2, making each note 2/3 of its original duration) but the time signature itself seems to be the same to me (4/4)

I remember once. Sitting in my car at dusk, soaking up this song and a nice fatty. Contemplating when I was going to stop smoking weed and start building my life. Also, wondering if there was anyone out there who could actually do this song in the flesh on a drum set? That was 2002 I think. Now here I am pulling six figures and I haven’t smoked any weed in about 15 years. I look forward to doing a reunion tour with with this song, others, and another nice fatty. For now, I have to put it off. My company does hair follicle tests. Not a job one would want to lose. Can’t even think about weed. Other than right now of course. 😆
