Quick note: the vertical/horizontal orientation are switched, since it’s shooting 2 vertical half frames on the same amount of space as 1 horizontal frame! Not a deal breaker at all, but will take some time getting used to!
Hey there! Could you explain this to me plase? my english is bad. that means if i only take photos in vertical portrait mode, they will take double the space?
It would be a pitty as i want to take vertical photos.
Am i understanding it wrong?
@@tukor Hola!
The quality of your videos is great, and you also helped me a lot with this one. Thank you, keep up with the good work!
Thanks for this video ! Just bought this camera yesterday and excited to use it
I just finished my first film yesterday (got this camera for my birthday on April 25th 2023 so almost one year ago) and I am so excited to see what I shoot. I remember taking risks, trying to create diptychs, lots of pictures will probably be blurry but I just want to see what's on that film!
Thanks for this awesome review dude. I was planning to pick up one of these for a bit fun during an upcoming trip and you've convinced me to go for it!
Hope you love it!
I just bought one and ran across your video, think you! It sounds like I made a great choice!
Great video, just bought two for me and my partner!
This has been helpful. Thank you! ❤
Nice review! I really like half-frame and currently using a Yashica Samurai.
Half frames are so fun! Especially with rising costs of film 😞
I watched this an hour after buying one… I can’t wait for it to be delivered now!
Have so much fun! Awesome little camera
thank you for this review! I have the same yellow😊
You just convinced me. I’m buying this now haha
I have the green one, and i love it!
i have this old canon prima film camera that i've been wanting to upgrade from so i think this'll be the camera i'll get
Maybe dumb question, but does the film developing service necessarily know that its half frame or is it possible to end up getting photos with two half size images on each?
Thanks for doing this stuff by the way. Subscribed.
Depends on the lab! At my local lab they would give me scans with 2 images,
I scan my own film now so I have the freedom to decide on my own
hey! may i know what film you used to shot those pictures? those are great pics tho
love it
Hi there. I love your reviews, now I know what to do with this camera! And, may I ask you, I’m bringing this camera to an indoor concerts, do you know which film I should use? Thank you in advance
Anything between iso 100-400 should work! But make sure to use the flash up close and you should be fine :)
@@Anjroo Alright. Thank you so much for your recommendations!!!
this is actually a really well crafted video, new sub
Thank you!
I got one of these for Christmas and just picked up my first photo prints today. I shot Kodak Gold 200, mostly indoors and mostly just family shots around the house. A lot of my photos turned out dark even with the flash (some were okay; most weren't). The best ones were the ones taken outside even despite it being gloomy cold January here. I picked up a Fujifilm 400 to try next - I'm hoping that'll help the indoor shots be brighter. It seems 200 is recommended a lot for this camera but I think that would be ideal for outdoor photos especially for travelling and bright sun. Am I wrong? Any recommendations would be a great help. I really want to love this camera but my photos were kinda meh. :/
I typically use 200-400! And use the flash every time I’m in shade or indoors! It very much needs the flash, but also at an effective close range! When in doubt just use the flash anyway :) film likes to be overexposed, so it doesn’t hurt!
@@Anjroo Thank you so much for the advice, that's very helpful! I was a bit unsure of when to use the flash but I will definitely keep that in mind. I feel more confident now about my 400 film also. It's been sooooo long since I've shot with film. Thanks again! 😊
Wow! I have to get one! Do you do your own flatbed scanning?
I have a video coming soon explaining my process!
But I scan my film with a mirrorless camera:)
Hello Andrew first of all thank you for your many videos which are always so cool to watch! I had a question regarding the Kodak H35(n) camera.
I can't really understand the system in half... If I hold my camera in landscape mode, I mean "horizontal" the photo will be horizontal too ? Or do I have to hold my camera vertically to get horizontal?
And also, the size of the photos is similar to those of the M35 and M38 (10*15 I think)
Thanks in advance !
From France, Martin.
So half frame means it will take 2 vertical images on the same amount of film that would’ve normally been 1 horizontal frame! So the orientation will be flipped. But there are built in framing guides that help you with this reversed view!
Hope that helps!
@@Anjroo Thank's !!!
Okay the longer I watched the more I was convinced you are shooting in Utah? I swear I saw Tibble Fork, Cupbop, and BYU campus? Maybe I"m going crazy here.
New to your channel, just got recommended on the YT front page. I love my H35 too for all the same reasons as you! My favorite snapshot camera. If you haven't tried yet, give a roll of Vision3 250D a spin through it. Match made in heaven for that camera.
Yes I’m in Utah! 🥰
Great video. I'm wondering what is it with the viewer? I mean, if you frame your photo, the whole view is going to be exposed in vertical in your half frame? Or how do yo frame your photo?
Yes! Looking through it normally, it will be vertical, and take a vertical exposure. If you want to take a horizontal photo you have to flip it! Hope that helps!
Great video ! How do you get them from physical photos to jpeg or on the computer?
I personally scan my own film at home, but wherever you go to develop will provide you with the jpegs! Depends on the place! I don’t recommend Walmart or Walgreens lol but if you’re desperate you could do that.
hey ! i am now sure that i will be purchasing this one but I still have a question. since it takes two photos instead of one, is it simultaneously (like the two are made within a few seconds, picturing the same thing) or you take one and you can take the other one a few days later/weeks ? thank you !
Hi! The pictures are all completely separate!! So if you use a 36 exp roll you can take 72 individual pics
honestly i fuck with smaller creators so much much more instantly subscribed
Aggressively honest 10/10 comment, here you go 🏆
Can you put a timer on this camera like click the shutter button and make it wait 5seconds before taking the picture?
Unfortunately no, But it’s not very common to find that feature in budget cameras like these either way! Hope that helps :)
^the feature you’re looking for is called “self-timer”, so make sure to include that in your search for cameras :)
Sorry I'm new to this but how do you get the horizontal shot with a half frame camera? Like in 6:19
Horizontal and vertical are flipped! So holding the camera “normal” takes a vertical, and vice versa rotating it vertically takes a horizontal shot! Hope that helps :)
Never really done much with cameras, but am looking to get one to capture memories like my family did growing up. How do I get the date stamp on pictures I develop? I want that old vintage look and feel this camera does that. Thanks!
This camera can’t do that unfortunately!
The date stamp happens in camera when it’s taken. Usually by an electronic point and shoot camera
My most recent video on the Ricoh R1 can stamp the date on the images! If you’re really wanting that effect!
@@Anjroo I did watch that before this. I saw you said it died soon after so that got me bummed. I know all cameras will, but I would like one that could last me a while. I like the simplicity of this Kodak Ektar, but the ONLY thing I miss is that date stamp. I guess I could just write on thr backs after they’re developed? Idk I really love that feature. Wish it was applicable without digital ones.
It might be a very stupid question, but can you just develop the pictures at a photagrapher shop since theyre halved?
yes! anywhere will work! They may give you back scans that have two images connected, but you can easily crop them on your phone or something :)
H35N video please!
has anyone tried shooting expired film with this camera? I would love to know how it turned out. thanks!
What is the best film to purchase when u wanna photograph outdoors? I am going on a trip and really wanna have fun with taking pics!
Anything from iso 100-400!
Film has a lot of latitude when over exposed, so personally I like 200-400 more :)
@@Anjroo I have another question, sorry I got hyperfixated on this now! I am completely newbie and checked out pics with the h35 on ig of unprofessional people, seemed very blury. So I thought of the m38 and checked it out, had the impression the m38 is a bit more steady for beginner. Do you have an opinion on it?:)
Most point and shoots like this will have a shutter speed around 1/100, which is probably why they are blurry! Regardless you’ll have the same issue, just having a steady hand will help :)
@@Anjroo amazing, thanks a lot. H35 will be!:)
I'm looking into getting this camera to shoot for fun. What film would you recommend for this camera?
I’d recommend anything cheap!
Especially since an expensive films stock won’t really shine in a budget camera like this. The cheapest 200-400 iso film you can find :) I usually use Gold 200, or Fuji 200/400
@@Anjroothank you so much!!
Hi there! I got this camera half a year ago and already shot some photos. However, soon I have an occasion where I would like to shot pictures on a new roll, so that I can gift the roll to someone. Is it possible to unload a half roll and put it back in later to use all the frames?
You can but it’s risky! Since you wouldn’t be able to tell when the roll started and stopped, there’s a high likelihood you’d shoot over your previous exposures and ruin them! I would just finish the roll, or get it developed even tho it’s not finished!
Thank you! I opted for your second suggestion 😄.
Good 🎞🧸
hey bro thanks for the video. im also looking into getting one. but how do i process the flim and turn it digital?
Some options are:
Your local camera store/film lab! (Or mailing it to a lab)
Or places like Walmart/walgreens, however! They just mail it to a lab anyway, and you also don’t get your negatives back!
how did you get the photos digitally?
Check my most recent video! Made a video all about digitizing!
song?
Wait you can’t adjust SS? How does it handle night shots?
It can’t do long exposures, However the newer version has a bulb mode, so you can do long exposures with that one!
@@Anjroo how do I tell the newer version from the older?
The newer model has an N!

35mm film used to be expensive, limiting the number of pictures taken. Nowadays, with lower costs, it's no longer a concern.
lower costs? film has never been more expensive!
Compared to the 1990s it's much cheaper @@Owanneke
@@dingpongcrate Lol. Let's take fuji provia 100.
Price in 1991: 11.4DM = 5.83euro, 96% inflation since 1991 = 11.43euro today. And that was including development cost.
Current price 19.95euro + 7euro development = 26.95 euro.
That's more than TWICE as expensive.
Ektachrome? 3x as expensive.
Nope it's more expensive than it used to be adjusting for inflation. It's also still more expensive to get it developed, there are no stores to walk into to get developed so basically it's like this.
Cost of the film + cost of processing + cost of postage there (sometimes back too) = the cost of each and every 24-36 exposures which is absolutely insane considering digital photography is always free to do in the same context
Which film would you suggest iso 400 or iso 200 ?
Personally I enjoy 400 since film generally likes a touch of over exposure. But you can’t go wrong with either :) I usually just buy the cheapest film and go off of that :)
@@Anjroo Ok, Thankyou
does this camera work with portra 400 and fuji 400 film?
Yes! 400 will technically be overexposing, however film typically does better when overexposed. So I prefer 200-400 speed :)
@@Anjroosounds good. any film recommendations for this camera? specifically for outdoor pictures of things such as mountains and forest?
I’d recommend anything cheap! Film isn’t very affordable nowadays, and this camera isn’t exactly high quality, so to my logic it doesn’t make sense to put expensive film inside an inexpensive camera. Usually Fuji 400 or gold 200 is what I use :)
Lol settings are scary... 👻
Hi, please help/
my dumb ass friend opened my film camera and the film got exposed, is it ok?
Ohhhh noooo 😭
There’s a possibility that SOME of the images are okay as the film sometimes will be wrapped against itself so tight that light can’t get to it. But most will be wrecked or light leaked. Good luck, I hope they are mostly safe!❤️
how can i shoot half frame ?
in india it costs fkin triple ;(
I see no need for this except for nostalgic reasons.
thanks for the input
imagine going to TH-cam reviews of products you have no interest in just to share you see no need for them.
You don't know until you learn. I use to love 8mm film but that look can be replicated digitally. Was curious what was new about this fad@@theodom1858
