I rate these video mate, id like to see you in a new go fishing series as i think you've got same enthusiasm and joy in your fishing as john wilson had! Thanks as always
@@JonArthurit would be great seeing you on telly. I sincerely believe you would be very successful. You never know whats round the corner. Good luck in all you do.
Great episode Jon. Love how you keep talking to us on film and your plan when boats cone and go. Like another comment was " just like when Wilson was fishing". Great commentary and views. Waiting for another one now...
Hi Jon love your videos in local aswell Oxfordshire watching your videos all the time and learning won two of my local matches now and teams of four last week on the river Thame in thame thanks again
@@JonArthur you want try are local canal the staffs/worcs round are town it's a super but of cut plenty of roach ,skimmers, big perch,Chub and on a couple of parts some damn big carp and very big bream
I've never mastered answering "caught anything" questions from passers-by. You give a technical debriefing, and you get "What's a roach?", or you give the noddy answer, and they turn out to be a local matchman. Sods law. I can't find a happy medium.
Another enjoyable video Jon the rain seems to follow you and boats and more boats and a full audience of walkers🤣 but you managed some fish between the boats 👍🥺🎣🎣
Great to see you on Allen’s lock fished quite a few matches their 15to 20 years ago summer was a nightmare with the boats but still managed to win a few I think the swim your in was a toughie I preferred other side of bridge for skimmers mind you that was a long time ago great Video Jon love watching
Cheers Andrew. They were doing a lot of work above the lock that day and a big CRT working boat came through just as I packed away. I tend to walk that way and it does look fishy
I love watching Jon fishing the waters around my areas, love to see him do one on the Cherwell that runs along the by the Banbury res, just to give me some points on baits and rigs
Did the Ramblers realise they were conversing with possibly one of the best all round anglers in the country?....I think not @jon Arthur Angling!! Brilliant vid yet again Jony End Peg!!!😄
Brilliant video Jon our canals are a minefield of cyclists runners dog walkers that seem to forget to pick up after their pooches and f1 racing barges but the rewards are certainly there for the brave 😉
I love canal fishing! You should come down my way. We have some of the best canal in the country. Last four sessions in August have double figures of roach every time, on Luton canal around Leighton Buzzard.
Nice little session there. Thanks for the vid. Didn't there use to be a 4mph speed limit on canals? I don't remember, as it's been 35 years since I last fished one.
Nice little session Jon, I fish Staffs Worcester and it's like the M6 these days, a far cry than twenty years back when you hardly seen a soul on the towpath now its crazy and can drive you nuts at times, fishing is still good though with plenty to be found.
@@JonArthur Yes i used to fish matches with Paul Turner & Peter Plant on Wolves AA back in the day, was all about the gudgeon then on the whip, some big chub now and lots of good sized perch, they have eaten all those gudgeon now, funny how it all changes.
I fished those matches too. Was once as many gudgeon on the Oxford as there was at Wombourne and Penkridge. Zander, perch and crayfish have altered the fish populations now. The chub are strangely less numerous than they were.
@@JonArthur Wow excellent Jon its a small world, yes the larger chub are more scarce on the Staffs, though some nice ones around Dimmingsdale and some small chub are now showing so good news for the future. gosh thinking about it now its been a good 25 years since those days mate.....time flys indeed.
Awesome man. Cant beat a sesh in the canal. Ive recently bought a pole to shsre with my son, 8.5m for now. It came with 2 top kits, thinking about setting one up for shallow but wasnt too sure how to do it, re hiw much line ti have from the elastic but ive got a bettee idea now after seeing your top kit at the beginning. Finding this whole elastic thing a bit confusing haha
Another great video mate, have you considered doing a 'paid for' on line coaching video course? Your knowledge and experience would be invaluable ..I'd be up for it
Theyre skid bungs or pole protectors. Ive got all sorts of types. The green ones are sensas universal ones. Ideal for threading a pole through hedges. I Couldn’t fish a canal without one.
Jon, it would be good to hear your views about plumbing the depth on canals that have a considerable mud layer. The type of mud that can trap a plummet temporarily. Where would you set the float to hook depth under these circumstances?
I use a light 10-15g plummet and just lower it very gently, but I will always juggle the depth between several inches over depth and several inches off the bottom depending on what you are catching or trying to catch.
Thanks for that video Jon, newbie here watching and trying to learn and pick up tips to improve. Think I best try some chopped worm instead of maggots as all I keep catching are those little ones, it’s nice to see the size of some of the hybrids that are in there.
@Jon Arthur Angling I’m fishing a bit further up from you at thrupp. Boats going through on Sunday was like the the m6. Thanks for sharing as I’m learning from your vlogs. it was my first time using a keep net on the canal and I took your advice first thing I did was secure the bottom to the bank. Got some worms yesterday so I’ll be trying them to see if I can catch anything bigger than my usual.
I’m having proper trouble with boats at the minute, they all seem to think that they have a lot more right to be there than anglers do……. I fish a lot more nights now than days, it’s seem to be a Win Win for me at the minute, no boats and bigger fish…. Do you fancy night fishing ? Last night I had a load of decent Tench and Bream with a massive Rudd…..💪
Not sure night fishing is allowed on any waters i currently fish but one day ill gear up for it perhaps. Definitely best to go early or late if you can but ive sadly not always got that luxury. Boats are one thing that sometimes puts me off the oxford as its narrower and shallower than the GUC which is a shame, but if it wasn’t for boats we’d have no canal i suppose
@@JonArthur fair comment no boats no canal……. I’m a member of wdnac.org.uk and I can night fish parts of the River Nene, I work nights and have a fantastic family but my kids are much older than yours so yeah I consider myself lucky how much I get to fish…… More session videos please buddy…..👌
I have a few Finesse kits that dont come with side puller slots, so just use a puller bung. Ive similar Match kits with light elastic with side pullers. Knot is just a single overhand as the dacron lassos over the elastic and just tightens up against the knot, if that makes sense
Definitely worth a go before any boats and any lulls as its often deeper close in, but never a proper whip these days as too many bonus fish, so elastic all the way for me.
Great as always! Wish i could make it to England for a visit of some venues. Where did you get this butt protection thingie in green for your pole? I am looking for some for my Preston Pro Type 210.
What is it with boaters that don't slow down? I understand that they are the reason that the canals are there, but a little consideration for anglers doesn't go amiss! The other scenario are those that go nice and slow then open up mid swim. Aaargh!
Some of it's ignorance, some of it is just inconsideration. Same inconsiderate people who hog the middle lane of motorways with their fog lights blazing I assume! :-)
@@JonArthur thank you. That sounds a plan. Its coming up to River time. I live 5 mins from Dorset Stour. Hampshire Avon and 15mins from Throop and the Royalty. I could take the plate off and use it on the Rivers. Brilliand Thank you J
Hi just wondering what poles you recommend I am looking at buying a new one and don't know what to go for I match fish mainly carp and f1s Probably looking between 1000 And 2000 Any recommendations please
People do but theyre no longer readily available in my area as fewer people demand them. Plus my session was deliberately a simple session using bigger baits. I did mention Im sure I couldve caught on squatts if I brought some. However, canals have really changed and bags of squatt fish are less dominant on many. Take one look at the recent Div 1 National on the GUC. Once dominated by squatts, now catches totally dominated by bigger baits for skimmers and perch etc.
Please keep these canal videos coming Jon! There is still a big demand for these type of session videos 👌
Will try Nathan

quick qustion how do u seperate the pole when landing the fish. which way do u twist it so it seperates
Not something I’ve ever considered or worried about. Either way is fine. Modern pole sections stay together very well however you put them together.
