As a student of the period and one with a fascination for accurate portrayal in historical drama, I must confess that this is, without doubt, the best reimagining of the people and events of the Civil Wars. Faithful to the facts and with truly magnificent performances; the actors breathe life into the characters that shaped our nation at this critical juncture in history.
I really enjoyed this movie. Edward loved her so much even he didn't talk about it. Yesterday, I watched the movie New Worlds on this channel, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that these stories are connected and show the time that was before.
Lots of important history presented in this movie . Charles I was an absolute monarch who thought he had the divine right to rule. At the time only land owners had the right to vote or be Parliamentarians. Charles I dismissed Parliament for 11 years , until he wanted to raise money for an army to fight the Scots . The Levellers are well presented . Thomas Rainsborough was a prominent Leveller who participated in the Putney Debates . They wanted equality before the law , religious toleration and non land owners to have the vote . James II ( VII ) ascended the throne in 1685 - and thought he had the absolute right to rule . Then John Locke starts writing his Enlightenment ideas and his version of the " Social Contract " During the Glorious Revolution of 1688 , William of Orange and Mary II replaced James II (VI ) and during their coronation oath they swore to recognize the sovereignty of Parliament . They agreed to the 1689 English Bill of Rights . Once again only land owners had the right to vote , but this is the beginning of democracy in the modern world . William and Mary were the first Constitutional monarchs . . .
There are very few depictions of the English Civil war on film. A truly turbulent period in English History. I wonder why it's not well represented in the Arts. Those not versed in English history are always surprised to learn that an English king was decapitated long before a French one. Perhaps this theme makes men of power uncomfortable, perhaps this is the reason that the English civil wars are not as popular to portray, bc not only was a king beheaded, but another tyrant took his place.
@@philipoconnor4263God is never the motivating force for killing. The men who use religion as an excuse to torture women, the poor, the nature, THEY are the problem. Not God.
"Wresting power" is a revolution. Revolutions may happen. They may work. But they are bloody and the revolutionaries usually think of themselves as more enlightened than the ignorant people who need to be forced into compliance. It's the forcing into compliance bit that isn't nice. It may involve massacres, executions, camps, murders, judicial or otherwise and a committee if self appointed leaders who decide who will go into the camps or be executed. That's what "wresting" power involves.

A very murderous and bloody tyrant. Cromwell was worse than Charles I.
Great thank you 😊
Many thanks for the movie
Because of that mustache alone... ⚰️🪦
Excelente serie, lástima que no tiene subtitulos en español

God Fearing often results in Man Slaughtering.
This was shot on location in South Africa 🇿🇦
According to Wikipedia, this is not even close to Angelica's life.
Can you make a full movie video about the live action version of Charlotte's Web?
...and we need the levelers today to wrest power from theoligarchy and billionaires.

Maganda lahat nalang ng nagiging asawa niya namatay😅✌️
Could be a good movie. But too long winded and slightly ridiculous.
The levelers, love and the nonsense of sunny Jesus, well there are ideas doomed to die with humanity.
