Your point is? I think it is to show how strong the back is with the aluminium and glass combo, since it's generally known to be tough. Since the S3 uses plastic, the outcome will be pretty obvious(which is that it will get scratched since it's plastic vs concrete).
***** You have a 6s - which apple tries to optimise the most as it is apple main source of profit on iPhones - 6 and below are mostly forgotton in terms on optimisations - i have a 5s which runs fine on ios 7 and 8 but anything above is a nightmare. My old 4s ran ios 8 but it was designed for ios 5 - it was slightly usable but ios 9 on iphone 4s was just a joke.
The S3 had direct light like 2inch away from it plus the phone is cheap plastic and didn't melt. The oven was hotter, but it had to heat up to 200 first slowly instead of almost instant like the lights. Pretty similar test. Marble is one of the hardest surfaces around, but concret does have like little spikes since its rough. S3 again is just plastic compared to painted aluminum so it wouldn't of been half as bad. However idk why they don't have a standard test for all phones that's the same.
That's impossible. Any Gorilla Glass cannot withstand that much pressure. It would definitely shatter, no matter what phone without any cases (unless it's something soft that you are dropping it at)
I noticed that the iphone 5 said no service on it, unlike the 4s that was on Tmobile and Wifi during testing. I think the battery drain for the 4S was due to it searching for a signal from inside the freezer. Perhaps all phones should have the sims removed or be put into airplane mode to check for this? Love the torture tests!
the water test amazed me! I dropped a black berry bold in water for like 2 seconds and it was done. I think an I phone 5 with a decent case would be a pretty good daily phone.
its just the casing I think. The iphone 5 has a metal case which is rigid while the S3 case is flimsy so that might have something to do with Iphone's ability to scratch easier.
Well that's the main thing is that all the damage just looks like crap, but didn't actually affect the phone's performance. People have complained to apple that the backs get scratched very easy and apple just said it's coated aluminum and having the bare metal shine through is what is supposed to happen. While the S3 is cheap plastic so it won't scratch or break. Only gonna cost you like $2 to get a new cheap back if it does anyway
Issue number one: With the iphone 5 she slid the phone across rough pavement and dropped down a few extra stairs once and dropped from shoulder/head height 3 times. With the s3 she dropped the phone from about shoulder height only 3 times. The heat test she cooked the iphone 5 to 200 degrees and checked it immediately upon taking it out of the oven. With the s3 she used heat lamps that only "sunbathed" the phone to 140 degrees and on top of that she gave it 10/15 minutes before checking it
The biggest problem I have with this series of torture tests is the heat test. The insides of cars on summer days can get hot I can agree with this ,but I doubt the inside of a car would be 200 degrees Fahrenheit. I could see possibly dropping it in a fire then quickly getting it out with a stick or something that would be a plausible test. But 200 degrees for an hour is a little much. That would probably kill anything.
This is the kind of tests I was looking for. Not just some guys throwing their iPhone on the street. I wouldn't use it inside a freezer or an oven though but it's nice to know it survives all that.
Also, Molly, you should have tested the headphone jack, speakers and audio through connection to the charging port, after the water test. These parts of my iPhone 5 were all affected and/or ruined (speakers) after just a few drops of water, yet alone full submersion like in this test. Just a tip for the future.
True but the main scratch damages on the back were caused by sliding the iphone 5 over the rocky concrete floor. If it wasn't for that, the only real damage probably would have been a crack on the corner glass in the back.
Just one thing, please check to make sure all the hardware (that includes the sensors, camera, headphone jack, speaker, etc) are also working totally fine...my friend dropped his iphone 4 from the roof of my house and luckily it survived....but later at home when he fired up the camera, he found the camera was dysfunctional....same thing happened with my friends Note 2 but also included the malfunction of the s-pen
its a simple way of doing test for leaving it in the car or something like that, but i dont like her freezer test. unlike an oven that can easily go several hundred degrees to match the internal heat of a car even on the hottest days of summer, freezers are set on average to be just below freezing and anyone from cold areas should easily know it can get easily into the negatives at night. theres a major difference b/w that 30 degree freezer and a common 0 degree winter night.
iphones suck my partner and one of our kids had one each first the kids one got dropped as kids do and it cracked the screen so had to get the screen replaced then not long after my partner knocked her phone off the arm rest on our set only around 700mm high and it smashed the screen, they truly are rubbish ive had my s3 for over a year have dropped it about 3 times only and it didn't even mark it the phone still looks new.
iphone 4s went through washing machine test but how come iphone 5 did not go through that torture test? I really love to see if iphone 5 can survive after going through washing machine test. Great video. Thanks.
I'm not an Apple fanboy(in fact, I'm an Android fanboy) or anything but actually there were many differences between the test for this and the S3. For example, the Drop Test was different, and they didn't slide it across the concrete for the S3.
uhmm... GS3's back are covered with shiny plastic.. iphone 5's back are covered with slated black aliminium and glass:P it's obvious that you can see you can see the scratches easier c: anyways its not a fail.. because you can see scratches.. as long as it is functional, is it a survive, in my opinion though
I was hoping they'd show if the camera would work. Admittedly, I use my iPhone a lot as a camera, probably more than as a phone; if the camera isn't functional, that's a fail for me. I had the first iPhone, and no matter what I put it through, the glass over the camera remained intact so I could still take pictures with it. When I got a 4, I put it in a case immediately, but after one drop, the very first crack on the casing was over the rear camera lens; making it useless as a camera. :/
With that kind of damage to the back from sliding it on the floor I can now say Apple's build quality sucks as well. My HTC Rezound (granted it's a removable back for easy replacement) can't be scratched. I've deliberately tried and I just can't do it
"compared to the s3 which went through all the same tests", they are not the same tests. 3 drops from less than shoulder height onto indoor tiling, compared to above shoulder and head drops onto its corner on concrete, and down concrete stairs. or keys compared to iPhone hockey on concrete.
@ucheucheuche YES!!! My galaxy s3 fell in a bunch of water yesterday and puttint it in dry rice all night is i think what saved it! It works PERFECT except the front camera still has some water, so I'll be putting it im rice again tonight. I definitely reccomend the dry rice trick.
When my phone went for a swim, it ran fine but the speakers and mic didn't work without a headset. Did you try testing that before passing the swim test?
I dropped my iphone 5 about 3 feet from my pocket onto wood floor and the front completely shattered, I strongly recommend to get a case and be carful with your phone it is not as durable as they make it seem
the test between this and the Gal S# was not "fair." The S3 was not ran across concrete or dropped on concrete... doesn't really help when trying to compare the two
I've dropped my iPhone 5 so many times including hard tile floors and outdoor paths it just has dents in the corners and the screen is slightly detached in the top right corner, the back and front sides are fine though its weird that you have scratches on the screen after only 5 days I've had my phone a whole year without that problem and I carry it around in my purse all the time ..
how can you compare the iphone 5 with the s3 if the test weren't the same.. the iphone 5 was put in 200 degree tempature while the s3 was put in 190 degree tempatures.. the s3 was droped on indoor flooring while the iphone 5 was dropped on concete .. & you didnt drop them at the same height & the "wild card " torture test weren't the same either..
You don't put it in a bag of rice, but in bredcrumbs ... If you can,you take the back of and blow it with a hair drier. I gave my cheepest phone a wash in the washing machine, got it out, blow it,and it was just fine.A little watery sign on the inside of the screen but after blowing it and few days after,it completely recovered and i'm using it today too. Also,it keeps the battery for 1 MONTH,not 5 hours like the crappy ifon ...
Its unfair comparing it with the galaxy s3 torture test, where all she did was the key test which was soft...the iphone? A long drag on uneven rough concrete. She dropped the S3 on a floor with absorbant tiles, the iphone was dropped quite heavily onto concrete and bounced several times down a small stairs.

Where is the totucher test for the iphone 6
Miss of her videos to this day do not know why there was not more torture videos made for her !

I hope this segment comes back.
Passed the rice test
Totally agree! I love the new Windows Phone 8X and the new HTC One coming out!
Why are they using the oldest iOS
Because this video was made in 2012. The newest ios back then was ios 6
+Miguel Marcelino thanks
probably the best ios - 8+ is a lag nightmare!!!!!!

exactly
+ItZz JoK3rZz Yeah, At the store They'll say, Not our problem, we use screen protectors.

totally agree, with the proper case too you will protect it from being scratched when you put it in your car or on your desk.

the iPhone 5 in black is terribly unresistant to scratches and stuff. I also heard the beveled edges get scratched and broken very easily...
Good video! Hope you do a 5S video soon!
Love your toture tests
iphones suck my partner and one of our kids had one each first the kids one got dropped as kids do and it cracked the screen so had to get the screen replaced then not long after my partner knocked her phone off the arm rest on our set only around 700mm high and it smashed the screen, they truly are rubbish ive had my s3 for over a year have dropped it about 3 times only and it didn't even mark it the phone still looks new.

I use the 6 one , but 5 is soo beautiful , love it
I noticed that this iPhone 5 has "no service" from the freezer? May be that is why the battery remains full.
in the end theres something called a SCREEN PROTECTOR. it is not a case, its a addon.
1:00 the screen has a delay and it has slowed down
I like how tame the S3 torture test drops were compared to this
I had an iPhone 4 and now have a Samsung S3 watching both the torture tests I don't think you was quite fair on the surfaces to drop the phones on
Ya'll should do a test on the Otter Box Armor Series for the iPhone 5!
It's called a screen protector I had mines since day one. Of this month and is lperfect
uhmm... GS3's back are covered with shiny plastic..
iphone 5's back are covered with slated black aliminium and glass:P

There are screen projector on the iPhone 5 from the start.
None of the drop tests had the phone land on its face, thats why the front of the screen isn't cracked.
I need this phone because I always leave my phone in the freezer and oven.
Ugh same
When my phone went for a swim, it ran fine but the speakers and mic didn't work without a headset. Did you try testing that before passing the swim test?
The iPhone 5 was dropped on concrete and down concrete stairs . You should try the same test for the s3
By the way, you should do a separate test for the white iPhone since we all know the black one tends to show more scratches.
Will it blend?
yes we all leave our phones in the freezer and oven am i correct.
How can you compare the torture test of the s3 and the iphone 5 when she was clearly rougher on the iphone 5 than she was the s3?
I dropped my iphone 5 about 3 feet from my pocket onto wood floor and the front completely shattered, I strongly recommend to get a case and be carful with your phone it is not as durable as they make it seem
Of cures the edges of the iphone 5 is going to be chipped if you slide it on concrete but not for the samsung galaxy s3.
Well when you did the s3 it was indoors. The iPhone was outdoors
the test between this and the Gal S# was not "fair." The S3 was not ran across concrete or dropped on concrete... doesn't really help when trying to compare the two
You did the s3 inside. That's not fair for it to be compared if they aren't dropped on the same flooring
What about the gigantic scratch/crack over the camera lens?
I've dropped my iPhone 5 so many times including hard tile floors and outdoor paths it just has dents in the corners and the screen is slightly detached in the top right corner, the back and front sides are fine though its weird that you have scratches on the screen after only 5 days I've had my phone a whole year without that problem and I carry it around in my purse all the time ..
Nice review and your cute. but would be nicer with bigger display and larger fonts with adjustability like blackberry on all areas of phone.
how can you compare the iphone 5 with the s3 if the test weren't the same..
the iphone 5 was put in 200 degree tempature while the s3 was put in 190 degree tempatures..
the s3 was droped on indoor flooring while the iphone 5 was dropped on concete ..
& you didnt drop them at the same height
& the "wild card " torture test weren't the same either..
Wooooooooowwwwww!!! You just used your iPhone4 for just 5 days and your going to RETURN it!!
She found the bee ambers dog stepped on lol
Please put it on the washing machine like you did with the IPhone 4S & Galaxy S3
Sometimes people bring into the Sauna....which I have and that temperature warning did go on.
Both were measured at 200 degrees, whether its an oven or a terrarium is irrelevant.
Could you please do a torture test for the iphone 5c and 5s? thanks!
Do you know the difference between internal damage and external damage?
What about the microphone, speaker and headphone jack?
when do you slide your phone across concrete
The gs3 passed all tests plus the washing machine without damage, so i think im getting that one instead of the iPhone..
iPhone 5S torture test?
Does dry rice really absorb moisture from devices?
Its unfair comparing it with the galaxy s3 torture test, where all she did was the key test which was soft...the iphone? A long drag on uneven rough concrete. She dropped the S3 on a floor with absorbant tiles, the iphone was dropped quite heavily onto concrete and bounced several times down a small stairs.
