    I'm from Maryland and I don't mind sharing a good fishing spot. Use Google maps. If you check Kent island, right when you come off the bridge the first exit there are a few piers. One is on the right about 1-2 miles down, the other is a bit farther down the road you can't miss it just keep straight. And one thing this guy does not show is to make sure you don't take UNDER sized crabs! Know the rules of fishing and crabbing before you go.

      Awesome! I sometimes use the way back machine to enjoy past adventures when I'm looking for ideas for new ones. Going to wait for the good local corn to come in down there, nothing like a steamer pot full of crabs and Eastern Shore local corn! That Carolina and Florida corn just doesn't cut it! We're getting ready to go dark for a few weeks. Got some adventures planned where we will find ourselves with no access to the net. Hopefully this will result in some great footage when we get back! Going to be nice disconnecting from the current nightmare for a bit.

    I used to live in MoCo and we used to just use earthworms for spot, etc. Put a board down on an area near leaf cover on the ground and go harvest them in the morning or after a rain. I use grass shrimp which I catch for free too. White perch go crazy for them.

      ArtOfSailing You go that right. Either fishing, or simply off into the wood as often as mom and dad would let me go to the creek and swamp. Back in those days there wasn't a name for it, my kids call it herping now, but when were young, we used to just go out and catch snakes, frogs and salamanders when we were kids to.

    This was filmed on a pier in the mid bay area. We don't like to mention specific names sometimes, because the facility is public and gets very crowded sometimes. But these methods will work on just about any pier or dock during the summer when crabs are around.

  • @dantheman2929

    @slowbowvideo
    My wife and I lived there for a few years. I went there almost every day during the summer months and picked the big boys off the pilons as they hung there. I would pick up 5 or 6 each trip down there. I worked on the island locating utilities so i would go to the pier every 2 - 3 hours during the day and would get 15 - 20 crabs on the days i would get there. I would also hit the narrows and see what was hanging around there. I got a really nice soft crab down there 1 day.

    I love bluefish. A lot of people don't eat them for some reason. I love the flavor as long as I bleed them out before placing in the cooler. In Delaware we call that size snapper blues.

  • @SharingTheOutdoors
    @SharingTheOutdoors  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ALPHATHEAWESOME Not lately.Busy hunting deer and ducks right now.When we used to go for crabs in the fall,we would hit the mouths of rivers where they would flow into the bay through a tidal marsh.Crabs would be coming in to dig up in the mud for the winter,used to get some big ones that way.

  • @SharingTheOutdoors
    @SharingTheOutdoors  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sometimes,yes, but I also mail order lots of stuff, like the bulk night-crawlers in Frugal Fishing I a lot cheaper that way. I also like to stop in and ask the clerk at a local bait and tackle what to use, and whats hitting in the area, and I'll buy enough for the trip there if I don't already have what I need

    Reds are few and far between (though not unheard of) In the chesapeake. Our big fish are the spring runs of Striped Bass,they go 40 and 50 lbs,average 40 inches during the spring trophy season.

    Love the remodel. Hadn’t been down for years since the populations crashed. Still not good like the old days though. I think it was August, might have been late July. We caught many more small and females as well, but wound up with the few dozen keeper males.

    The crabs caught at this pier last summer were all huge. I caught a lot of 6.5 - 7.5 inch crabs and at least one 8 incher. This year there are more small ones but they should be bigger and heavier this time of year. Saw some folks catch some nice ones here a few days ago.

  • @SharingTheOutdoors
    @SharingTheOutdoors  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since we film many of our adventures at areas that are publicly accessible, and these are sometimes crowded, we don't like to mention specific facilities by name. Hope you understand. But this video was filmed mid bay, and these methods will work on any dock or pier where you have access.

  • @SharingTheOutdoors
    @SharingTheOutdoors  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do see your point, this is why the crabs we caught were all eaten as we picked them, and we had to buy the crab meat for our recipe. But don't discount the stuffed fish either! It is in fact really good, and a change of pace from straight crab. Bluegill,perch,especially flounder are great fish to stuff with crab.

  • @SharingTheOutdoors

    o ok. i went crabbing and fishing to the chesepeake, and if you have been to north beach, the fishin there is just awesome for summer bluefish. i see everyone catchin alot for their coolers, i tried one yesterday, they taste very good. the crabbing there in the morning wen waves are calmer is key. its only about 50 min away from my house which is in mo co. so u should definitly try DEALE which is a city filled with fishermen.

    Doing what we do, a lot of it on areas open for use to the general public, we deal with a lot of crowded areas sometimes. So we don't like to give out the exact names of areas we use on the internet for fear of not being able to get a spot next time we go.Rest assured, public piers on The Chesapeake Bay are easy to find, and theses tactics will work on all of them!

    Honestly, I don't know what Michael had on when he caught that one. We do use squid a lot though, and live mud minnows. The baits you list work well also. One tip, those bloodworms are not necessary and very expensive. Good old fashion night crawlers work just as well in salt water for small fish like spot and the like.
