Well, he lost to Al Pachino, and while I didn't see the movie he won an award for that year I would say they were equally talented actors (it was 1993 and Pachino won Best Actor for his role in Scent of a Woman) the name makes me think I'd hate it but Pachino is godly talented just like Val Kilmer in my opinion.

I love this flick. I quote it almost daily. Check the theater scene. Wyatt and his wife are in the box talking before the show. You can see the actors standing in the background, waiting for their cue to enter the box. Also in the Curly shoots Fred scene, you can clearly see the squib (exploding blood gunshot effect) bulging under Fred's vest, and the squib trigger wire running up his pant leg! Adds to the charm.

Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday in the movie "Tombstone" offers an interesting lens through which we can explore the relationship between his character and the sephirot of Kabbalah. Doc Holliday is depicted as a complex and multifaceted individual, and his quotes in the movie can be examined through the framework of the sephirot to gain deeper insights.
"I'll be your huckleberry." This famous quote reflects Doc Holliday's fearless and confident nature, as well as his willingness to take on challenges. In terms of the sephirot, it resonates with the sephirah of Gevurah (Strength), which represents power, courage, and determination.
"My hypocrisy goes only so far." This quote showcases Doc Holliday's self-awareness of his own flaws and contradictions. It relates to the sephirah of Tiferet (Beauty), which represents harmony and balance between conflicting aspects. Doc Holliday recognizes his own contradictions but also seeks to maintain a sense of integrity within his actions.
"It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds." This line further emphasizes Doc Holliday's awareness of his own contradictions. It reflects the interplay between Gevurah and Tiferet, as he acknowledges his complex nature while continuing to act in accordance with his principles.
"All I want is revenge." This quote illustrates Doc Holliday's driven and vengeful nature, as he seeks justice for the wrongs committed against him. It connects with the sephirah of Netzach (Eternity), which represents determination, victory, and the pursuit of justice.
Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday captures the intricate blend of strength, self-awareness, complexity, and pursuit of justice. While these interpretations offer insights through the lens of Kabbalah and the sephirot, it is important to remember that they are subjective and open to individual interpretation.

I don't know if it's considered a blooper, but right after Virgel is shot in the arm, when Kurt Russell tries to pick Sam Elliott up, Kurt slams the back of Sams head on the underside of the bar. It looks like when Sam is twitching on the floor, he's not acting.

Tombstone is one of the finest westerns ever made. The cast were Stella but Kilmers Doc Holiday was terrific. I think its his finest movie role and although the mistakes were made it has in no way detracted my enjoyment of this film. Also I'm not usually a fan of Kurt Russel but his interpretation of Wyatt Earp was top quality.

One of the all time Westerns made. Right up there with Stagecoach. I was so taken by Val Kilmers protrayal of Doc Holiday and Kurt Russells of Wyatt Eurp that they could have driven a greyhound thru the thing and I wouldnt have noticed lol. Everyone who starred in this movie was on thier A game.Have watched it dozens of times and will continue. One scene is my fav of all. When the Eurps and Doc are at the Ok Corral facing down the Cowboys, and when Doc winked at the Cowboy I just knew crap was fixing to happen. After being so picky about blood on lips, I was sure you’d say something about how Wyatt’s blood covered hands didn’t leave any smears on Morgan’s forehead. It was a closeup shot with repetitive strokes, but that blood was permanently attached to Wyatt’s fingers!

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  4 ปีที่แล้ว

You're right. That transfer did not happen. Not normal for fresh blood. Not only that the rain scene outside is another one where it doesn't sit right with the eye. You can see it pouring rain in one spot and not at all in another.

I noticed a couple mistakes not mentioned in your video...When Curly Bill starts shooting at the sky with his 2 revolvers, he shoots more shots than the revolvers can hold however, I can't remember how many. There is also a part in the movie where it shows the brothers walking together with Fred and someone says "law and order every time, that's us" but nobody's lips move. Another scene when Johnny looks at Doc and says "you retired to?" he starts to speak before Curly Bill finishes his line. In yet another scene in the bar, when Ike is getting thrown out a glass bottle rolls off the table and a cowboy catches it, and in the exact same scene Virgil goes to grab his pistol but hesitates until the scene plays out a little longer then he grabs it and knocks Ike out. Loved your video!

They actually have specific staff on a movie crew whose only job is to make sure those mistakes don't happen. I think they're called "continuity techs" or something like that. It would be quite the task if you ask me. I remember in The Godfather, Michael gets punched in the mouth by the Chief of Police and for the rest of the film you can watch the bruise fade as the scenes are filmed and time goes by. Another good one is in the movie The Abyss, Ed Harris throws his wedding ring into the chemical toilet and then goes back to retrieve it and his left hand is stained blue for the rest of the film. That is some dedication and attention to detail for sure! Dang I love movies!

Yes, you are correct in that they are called continuity errors. In the old days of actually filming this would have been extremely difficult. Now with some of of the digital capabilities and cgi to cover things up it can really be minimized. I will have to rewatch the Godfather to see what you're talking about. I don't think I've noticed that. Sounds interesting and I bet there vcd are more.

It is all about attention and focus. The human eye is drawn first toward movement, second to bright lights, and third to bold colors. And we are also drawn, quite out of our control, to facial expressions. So 99% of people won't notice all the prop discontinuities and things like that in the periphery. It just goes to show you that even with a professional crew, and shooting out of sequence and from one day to the next, even the pros struggle too.

You missed the biggest one! When Wyatt comes outside in the rain, it's raining on him but only yards away, the dust road is totally dry and it's not raining there.

The meeting between Ringo and Wyatt changes time of day before 7 pm about three times, as well...

You missed one, check the scene where Wyatt is standing on the street in the rain after Morgan dies and all of the streets in the background except where he's standing are bone dry

Always wondered how Doc could easily stab a US Marshal in the saloon. Its the same actor who had a badge on while greeting the Earps at the train station.

Yeah, I have brought this up to many people and they say its just two actors who look alike. Isnt that Frank Stallone (Sylvesters brother) playing both roles? Its always struck me as odd maybe because the railroad and saloon scenes play close together.....

You missed one. There's a scene in the center of town on the night virgil is killed where Wyatt is standing in the rain. You can clearly see rain pouring down on Wyatt, but behind him there's no rain and it's completely dry. Always bothers me.

I always had a problem with the wound on Johnny Ringo's head. Was that supposed to be an exit wound? Wouldn't it be bigger? Also, while still standing, Ringo has blood on his knuckles which appears to be missing as he is lying dow n. Great movie, though.

It is a great movie and with these errors it proves that good acting and a good plot override all of these errors. Thank you for watching!

Regarding Josephine riding side saddle.....yes it is very difficult. But not impossible. In Downton Abbey, Michelle Dockery learned to ride side saddle for the hunt and racing scenes and did her own riding.

Yes it's definitely not impossible. Certainly not easy but you sure won't see three legs. Thank you for watching Kathy!

I'm your huckleberry. Nice catches in the inconsistencies but I still love this movie as well. It's in my top 10 along with Shawshank Redemption. Perhaps you could cover the inconsistencies in that movie too.

That's another great movie. I haven't seen as much as Tombstone but perhaps I will some time. Thank you for watching!

When Wyatt goes out in the rain after Morgan dies, the sprinklers don't go all the way down to the end of the street.

Ive watched a million YT clips @ my fave film Tombstone, & they ALL show multiple comments @ how much Val Kilmer deserved an Oscar 4 his undeniably EPIC role as Doc. And i agree..his performance couldn’t have been better, & i feel it’s 1 of those rare & precious few in movie history that is, essentially, perfection.❤❤

Good movie. From what I have read, Doc was quick but couldn't hit a barn with a pistol. He couldn't take Ike out in Flys' even though he was throwing a lot of lead at him.

I have read the same thing about Doc. It's difficult to separate the fact from myth on him and the others in Tombstone. The movie is awesome though!
