@@CTmoog Was going to pull the trigger during their black Friday sale and didn't, so when i saw he gave you a code it was a no brainer. Enjoy your channel and taking us along the journey of your resto!
Man bro you are practically building a new bug! So much rust I can’t imagine how much work you have done with this? Can’t wait to see the finished product!👍👌
That's cool, I can't wait to see it finished. I had that same thing happen to me on a drill press! Only it cut into my ring finger! Luckily I work in the engineering department at a hospital. I went directly to the ER and after eleven stitches I was back to work. So be careful.
Got to say CT you are doing great!!!! I was watching another guy doing bodywork on vw's who's been doing it for years and i think you are a serious quick learner. Yours looked as good as his. I enjoy your videos and I can't get enough of them.
Good luck on the lugage tray . I think the rear window flange is going to be tricky, If you can buy that piece do it so that the window will fit properly.Good luck on the build.
Hi,really enjoy watching your videos, currently restoring a couple of cars here in the UK myself - in regards to the trunk panel and crossmember pieces, if it were me I would put the body back on the chassis, get the two crossmember pieces in ,guess you will need to hang both rear wings (fenders) so the stud fixing aligns ? Then brace the finished crossmember in place once welded and then fit the trunk panel last, looking at the shape of it and how different it is to your specific model year I'm guessing there maybe some "trimming" required where it sits down on top of the crossmember pieces ?? Doing it this way would mean the body sits on the chassis and all the bolts line up 100% ? Just giving my input as an aside watcher . Keep up the good work - wished I had your weather here in the UK at the moment 👍
My favorite year car wish i was thier to help i did alittle metal work seeing this car reminds me of my dad in the 70s we had a red one when i was a kid great memories 💯👍
I’m loving this build! I think you’re doing an amazing job! It’s coming along looking great! One more thing! That was a close shave with that piece of metal twisting like a fan like that! It could had slice your belly! 😮be safe there buddy!😎👍
Isto é mais do que uma restauração. Parabéns pelo seu trabalho. Restaurar estes detalhes e sozinho, não é uma tarefa fácil. O que vc está fazendo é uma obra de arte. Já vi e revi várias vezes os vídeos do fusca. Excelente.👏👏👏👏👏
You are doing great; you are taking it one step at a time being very methodical and you will be successful. That is the key; doing it in digestible steps.
And as a tip ct, bolt the rear cross members to the chassis, then reinstall the body onto the chassis, then install the luggage tray, and tack it in. Then take body off to fully weld, its a lot of work but keep going mate
HOLY CRAP CT NEVER SEEN SOMETHING LIKE THAT SLICED A HOLE IN A CAN OF WD40 NOW THAT NEVER BEEN DONE THAT IVE SEEN WOW BUT THAT CAR IS LOOKING SWEET 👍🤘💯👍
Definitely a learning experience but nonetheless it's solid and it looks great. When it's done it will be a fun vehicle to run to the beach, grocery store store 😀. Etc
Hello again mate - I just wanted to say I think you should be so proud of yourself. You're doing a great job! I think your idea of quickly attaching the panels in place with a couple of spot welds, then lowering the body onto the floorpan to line everything up, then putting more spot welds in to fix things into position before lifting the body again, is going to be the best way forward. Like you said, there are so many panels to get exactly right, so give yourself a bit of wiggle room with those cross members etc, until the body is attached, and only then fix them in place. I think get the body onto the floorpan, then get the cross members in place first, before the luggage tray. What does that threaded stud on the cross member attach to? Is it the running board, or the rear wing (fender)? Whatever it is, fit that too, to make sure everything lines up. Once those cross members are in, then go onto the luggage tray thing. Good luck whatever you do, you're an inspiration mate.
The crossmember is one of the 1st things I bolt down and get ready even before doing the heater channels. After that, lower the body on and get the channel fitment right and then bolt them down. Weld the heater channel flanges to the crossmember...and then I would have started welding the body to the channels. For the shelf, I'd have the body bolted down to the chassis and then tackle the luggage tray so the body is solid and not tweeked when welding it in.
Saludos maestro, leudis Santana desdé republica Dominicana. Me encanta esa cortadora de metal que usted usa. Usted siempre con bueno equipos de trabajo. Excelente. Siempre pendiente de sus capítulos.
Excellent video CT :) also luck glasses on when WD 40 squirt over place buy spin peice of metal hit and toss too in beside car on floor when drilling away! Lucky for sure and not first time seeing that happen too and glad okay too!
I am beginning to look forward to a finished product. Before I thought it was too piecy (I mean all over the place) but seeing it progressing has made me think differently. It is possible to take something on and see it to the natural end. I know the difficulties and realities dictate too much sometimes. It needs to be a worthy effort to be successful.
I envy you having time to spend on all this. Don't want to spoil the party though but if it goes anything like my projects, when the car is ready, you know how you should have done... That painfull reflection at the end is called experience, I think.
I’m glad you had no injury nor real damage with the spinning metal and WD-40 can strike. You dodged a bullet, as WD-40 will ignite easily if there were a spark or flame nearby. That could have been a big fireball. I love to watch the work you are doing.
Só agora conheci esse canal, devorando cada vídeo igual faço a uma torta de abacaxi 🤭😀. Parabéns CT! Vc é o cara! Coloca a legenda em português,please! Sou do Brasil.
Hey CT when you get around to the rear window the easiest way would be to try to find a srap doner car with good metal and cut out and blend in to yours great to watch you have come a long way keep em coming.
Looking forward to the next video. Keep at it mate. I don't know if there are suppliers of VW restoration parts in Australia that you have in the USA. but am loving the series.
Great job man looking great.i was wondering If it would easier if you put the body on the pan first then tack then pull the body off and weld. But anyway that's what I'm thinking. Great job on it your really doing fantastic on it 👏 👍
Make all the adjustments you need to do first, since some parts are not ur specific to your car . Tack them all first and test fit again with the chassis. Then spot weld and seam seal
I’d put everything on the chassis, line up the bolt holes, make sure it all fits, throw down some self tapping screws or spot welds, remove the body and continue. This project is moving right along. Is the engine getting rebuilt by VWDarren?
Carpenter hammer that you use is not balanced like body hammers. The weight of a carpenters hammer has all the weight in the head so that you can drive in nails easier. Because of this a carpenters hammer used to hit metal will stretch it out of shape and also distort the metal. If you check on this you will find I am correct.
BEFORE you weld 1 more spot, clean, scrub, sand and rust kill the louvered section, and paint it black, NOW, while you can still get to it. Should have done that before you put those panels on, but ok, do it now, while yo still can. And YES, take that deck lid off, pretty sure the spring is 1st out last in. Before you even tack any of that shelf, get the upright part at the back, as straight up & down as possible. Yes you have to weld it from the bay.
Great work...coming along nicely! And thanks to you and Pete for the 10% off, finally ordered myself a set of BAD Brakes!!!!!!

That is exactly right CT you weld in some spots and hammer it in place...without the welds you cant form the metal.
Thanks Mike! Couldn't do it without my friend! 😎

CT, I guess to an expert body man no big deal, but to us novices it is a big deal. Slow and steady will get “er” done. Thanks for another good vid.

Remember when you where doing the rossette welds on the pan half’s? You’ve come a long way. What to go CT!
Some advise, always do your plug welds after your normal welds since they are so hard to get off if something goes wrong.
I would repair my rear window flange
first while I have room.
Good idea Francisco!

I’m glad you weren’t hurt. I hope you were wearing eye protection.
That luggage area panel seems to be connected to that part you welded a panel. The upper part seems to connect over that lower bar we had there
Coming along just fine . After all this I suppose you will understand about metal work .
Great job man looking great.i was wondering If it would easier if you put the body on the pan first then tack then pull the body off and weld. But anyway that's what I'm thinking. Great job on it your really doing fantastic on it 👏 👍
crossmembers should have gone in before the quarters, there are tabs that keep the structure solid that go inbetwee the quarter and heater channel
You should look Into a good weld through primer. It will save you alot of grinding time.
Nice work. I think I would fab a jig that matches the pan for the hole locations instead of having to put the body on and off again.
I could smell the WD40 from here. Good thing I love the smell of WD40.
HAHA! Yes, it does have a nice scent! =)
E muita obra... Mas está ficando muito bom. O Wd 40 saiu forte pela oficina. Hehehe.
