@@CTmoog it would be perfect if it gave a finish to the weld like Bill Metal Work does in its channel, the finish it gives to the weld is impeccable, you can't see any sign of the weld bead, it gives three different sandpapers
I do love the way you're restoring this Beetle with keeping the pattina/originality...Its inspired me to do the same with my 1969 Bedford CA utility bus, that's totally untouched and laid up in a barn for 40 years. Thanks Jason, Kent UK England 🇬🇧
Started tearing into my 86 c10 build this week I'm removing the body from the C10 and putting it onto a c30 frame building a tow rig telling you all that to tell you that watching your builds motivated me to get going I enjoy all of your videos
Hi there, CT you have done so far some nice restoration work on this Beetle, and your skills have indeed improved since started to follow you many years ago, with the VW bus Rusty, ok my friend continue with the good work👍🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻☮. 🇳🇴🇳🇱greetings, Hubertus
CT, another great episode and your skill with the welding is amazing. I've enjoyed these last 3 episodes with the bug and how u have picked up on this kind of workmanship. Keep up the bug videos and please bring back some work on Rusty I truly miss him😢.
Metal work gettin’ done. Man I hope I can start practicing soon I need to put in a battery tray on my bus. I’m doing gasless though cuz I couldn’t afford a gas machine.
Cómo siempre excelente trabajo maestro, saludos desde República Dominicana, para mí es una escuelita, e aprendido mucho con usted. Gracias y muchas bendiciones.
The piece used in final of video is a front panel of a brand Zito Pereira, is a Brazilian fabricator parts for VW aircooleds! This fabricator have a very good quality!
Perfect example of when to use a cleco.......That would be hard to use a sheet metal screw in that area. a cleco is the bes way to hold that part in place to weld it. He figured that out all on his own....No advice from me. seriously!!!

Excelente trabalho. É nós detalhes que percebemos o quanto é difícil um trabalho de restauração. O detalhe é que o CT está fazendo isto tudo sozinho. Parabéns mais uma vez CT. Sou sua fã aqui do Brasil. Um abraço. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
One of the recent videos (2 or 3 ago) on Puddin's Fab Shop he duplicated a VERY similar patina on a 61 Chevrolet Impala Wagon. He goes into a decent amount of detail. He used it over some rust repair and it's relatively seamless. Might be worth checking out.
Excelente su trabajo, yo estoy arreglando uno como ése,es un poco más nuevo no tengo tantas herramientas como tiene usted, desde Uruguay lo miro abrazo
Just curious, have you thought about panel bond epoxy for the lower front apron area? Weld as much as you can at the spare tire well and sides and use panel bond to adhere the latch to the front apron where the metal is thin? I was going to send you an email with a recommendation but I didn’t see your email posted on your channel info. Love the project!
CT that thin metal C shaped lip where the rubber slides in are nothing but rust traps my father removed it and used heavy duty double sided waterproof tape on the rubber to hold it there
Most Bug panels -all really - are readily available & are cheap. Any time we get one in to repair, I just buy the panel - even tho we make our own for most everything we do - I buy Bug ones - the shapes are all a pain to make, take forever & why even try if you can get a panel for pennies? They are also surprisingly Dull to work on as everywhere you look, everything interacts with 20 other things and every panel will have scabby rust hidden everywhere. I have a pal who restores nothing but beetles - he's a 1 type vehicle guy. & he's welcome to them. :-) Even if you don't use the full panel, it's much easier to have the panel to hand & be able to lop off & fit the bits you need. I was doing similar to what you are ^^ except to a Ford today - was working on the lower quarters right at the back - had the entire lower section inside & out to make - I'd have bought panels but non are available. Making them was - honestly - such a b-ache I was losing the will to live. Got it done, but man, I'd have bought them panels in a heartbeat if I could have, Effort.
CT: I think you’re doing a fantastic job! You’re doing better with the editing, fast forward more if you can? If it were my car, I would make sure that the wheel wells, including the fenders were De-rusted. No rust, sealed with the rust, inhibitor, primed, and coated with a Proper under type coating and in black. I would make sure that the engine compartment was de-rusted and properly painted along with the front trunk area on the inside, under the hoods as well. I understand, wanting to keep the patina on the outside with that rusted look, is what you were after. On the inside of the car, I would finish it off completely, as it was new. It will be a great contrast, cool look! I’m sorry, I know I’m just an armchair advisor, but those are just my thoughts… -mr boB
Your patch metal should be as thick as the original metal or thicker. Do not use thinner as you are doing all that work to do a good job and cheeping out with the replacement metal for the rust repairs !
Watching these videos is great! Do you still have the car you're taking bit from? The boot lid on it is awesome, so much better than the car you're doing up. It has vents on it and the patina looks great. Have you thought about swapping the boot lids over?
When you are running a little grinder like that and a zip disc you might want to make sure you put the guard back on and some leather gloves and some protection for your balls. I seen a body man at my uncles shop break a zip disc and a piece hit him in the balls and he had to go to the hospital and get stitches. Funny as fuck for all of us but embarrassing and sore for him !
I don’t know if you’re aware or not but they do make a bet specifically for removing spot welds and I’ll probably save you a lot more energy when it comes to welding it back in place the new piece I’m speaking of!! Slow down and think about what you’re doing before you do it find out ask people see if there’s a better way to do things because it looks to me like you make more work for yourself approach things to where it creates more work😳😳😳
Looking great man can't wait for the next build
Love your growing confidence. Keep it up!

Apron and Valance repairs ! Nice !

Patina/rust is part of the past. With all of the hard work and time you’ve spent I’d think you would want a beautiful, good looking car.
So many rust repair, my god but when you finish this project, you can say I have a HANDMADE beetle 😉👍
From a guy who was scared to cut something out.....To the MASTER of metalwork!!!!
Absolutely! And he’s got the best guidance coming from you! 👍💪👏
Thanks Mike! not the master but getting better! =) Thanks for all the advice!
Nice job. Very entertaining.
Thanks Andy!
Very nice metal work - awesome!
Having flashbacks from when I did my rusty 67.
it's amazing how you have learn so much and so fast...tanks for sharing

You're gaining on it, and developing your new found skills! What you need on some of that stuff is "air to rust welding wire"!
That was satisfying. Turned out really nice
Thanks David!
Hi CT, it just shows what musicians are capable of when they set their minds to something.
