    That was totally cool! Congrats on a successful drop guys!

    Notice that the second set of drogue chutes (the second pair of smaller chutes) were also reefed; they opened partly at first and then all the way when the reefing lines were cut.
    Even not counting the chutes used to pull the capsule and sled out of the C-17, that's a lot of parachutes and pyro devices that have to work perfectly!

    Way to go. I expected nothing less. Some definite tweaks needed but what a success. We need these on all commercial flights. I'd love the ride this to the ground in the event of a non land-able failure. Sure beats the free fall we'd have today.

    The mains are supposed to open slowly; it's called "reefing". Lines keep the parachute from fully inflating when it first opens. Then the reefing lines are cut and the parachute opens fully. This avoids the very large opening shock that would otherwise occur if the parachutes opened fully at high speed. That could rip the chutes or injure the astronatus.

    I really loved all of the different angles shown. Thank you NASA for the great video!

    That third parachute really didn't want to open.

      hotmojoe. It was made to not open to test the module ability to land with two chutes and not interfere wit n the good chutes

      airdaleva42 Thanks. That was actually pretty smart of NASA to do that.

    That rocking under the first two stabilizing parachutes would cause great discomfort on board, I'm thinking.

    It must be quite nerve racking to drop such an expensive craft even after such extensive testing.

      test version of Orion

  • @ApolloWasReal
    @ApolloWasReal 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually, it's shaped like an Apollo command module spacecraft of the 1960s because it was and still is a very good design. The main difference is that Orion is bigger and carries more crew. It's Apollo on steroids.

    I would say that after 400 more drops NASA might actually get to launch...maybe.

    It had some pretty wild oscillations going there before the main chutes opened. wouldn't be very comfortable for the passengers.

      Constellation was cancelled in 2010, so I suspect Orion started sometime after that.

    with all that technology and the camera footage is comparable to the first camera phone and who is filming this. oh and the first sets of chutes look fake asf. oh and lets not forget it enters earth atmosphere at how fast... no where close when being pooped out a plane...
    and the biggest one yet where is the footage of the module hitting the ground... dont give me the bs that "this was only for the chutes" yeah the chutes safely bringing the module to the ground !!! this is pathetic at best

    • @vansnorkel750
      @vansnorkel750 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Are you really going the "space is fake" way? Don't do that, you GOTTA be smarter than that...

    • @audisticn8
      @audisticn8 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      not sure how you can assume that! so I am just going to ignore your assumption and say Space fake... No! This video...hmmm considering Nasa's admitted use of CGI and rendering along with logical reasoning to tangible resource and facts.... Yeah the video is Moot!
