You're awesome man! Congrats😊😊😊😊😊😊
I love your videos dude! Please continue what you're doing!
It's cool that you got a sponsor, but the game seems to suck.
Where is the fountain?
Please keep up the cut content series it’s always very interesting to see what the anime didn’t show
Absolutely. It's always great to get those additional details and context, while knowing we're not going to get spoiled (in the video, anyway).
This is good especially for the people who can't get into the LNs like myself sadly
They call it controversial yet Naofumi over here whistling as he slowly walks away from being a slave owner himself.
Not to mention they used it as an excuse for him to "own" another girl just so her stats would get better, treating it with next to no tack
Just watch the show. As a novel reader, I promise you at no point is Julie ever treated like less than a human being.
@@perish.dieeven.3941she is treated more like an apprentice than a slave
@@BOT_JUSTIN S2? I guess slavery doesn't really rub you the wrong way. I would understand if it's EP2.
@@perish.dieeven.3941 Exactly! Context is everything! I don't understand these people who complain about Rudy and Naofumi. It's not like they're out there beating and taking advantage of their "slaves" If anything they're hero's who rescued these people from slavery and treated them like a person. People are too sensitive
18:31 I do have a different interpretation of Rudeus' question to Julie. I don't think Rudeus genuinely wanted to die in his previous life, and I don't think it was an issue of giving Julie a choice that "there was no one around to give him". I mean let's just go and say it: if a person in the level of extreme emotional distress that Rudeus was wants to end it, they don't need someone else to do it for them. My read is that, at least now in hindsight, Rudeus has realized he didn't actually want to die, and guesses that Julie doesn't either. I think he offered Julie the option of ending it as a bit of reverse psychology to make her face the prospect of death and realize that it *wasn't* what she wanted, and that she could still hope for something better.
I don't think that was a bluff. Thoughts of self harm and having it in you to actually go through with it are different. Just look at the world today. The futurama suicide booth was a joke and now people are signing up for M.A.I.D.
Rudy didn't quite reach the point of suicidal but just gave up on living twice in one episode. The only reason counter arrow was ever in danger was due to his sandbagging. After the incident with Sara he finally makes an attempt on his own life.
In my opinion rudy understands what it's like to stand on the edge, to no longer find purpose in existence. Her gave her the agency he didn't have. He didn't do some dramatic over the top display to scare her, he offered her an out in proximity where no one would be able to interfere in time.
He knew what she was going through because he went through it himself.
That's literally the dictionary definition of empathy.
Not really sure about as if it was a reverse psychology mindgame.
My interpretation is double perspective.
1) yes, Rudeus does know the feeling of despair
2) but the same time he lived in a world where he was "only" a shut in, still fed and sheltered by his parents. In this world the danger is more real. You cant compare your depression the same level "whos parents was slaughtered, and you are literally shakcled inside a cage and even if you get out, a random thug/magical beast will literally eats you"-depression
Its the similar level when Rudeus wanted to play the calculated reputation farm character. One of the best scene in this grimdark world.
The one where he wanted to save the kid in last second to be praised just to see the ripped body used as projectile missing him...
We see this in the real world too. I saw a documentary about a deeply depressed 25 year old that was one of the first to be granted MAID. Then at the very last moment they didn't follow through and actually somewhat recovered, stating that the option of MAID and coming this close with it gave them some kind of peace that made them decide to push for happiness in life once more. Though I doubt that Rudeus' offer was a bluff. The fact that the option was suddenly real and in Julies grasp could be exactly what helped her gather that bit of courage she needed, not so say "I want to live" but "I don't want to die".
@@resengan123 to this point Rudy hasn't killed a single human being but he's willing to become a murderer for some he met 10 seconds ago?
i also love how rudy sandbagging got Sara captured and the other guy killed.... and his so called attempt was Fueled by his dick no longer working and drinking until the sun came up, he wasn't in any more despair then the moment Eris left and he didn't try to yolk him self then. i have a few retarded girlfriends and a couple female family members who also got drunk and tried to end it but luckily they suck at it but to my point, i think alcohol played a huge part in Rudy's momentary lapse
As long as we're taking a deeper look at Sylphie, I think one of the most significant but underrated moments in this episode is when Rudeus points out to her how normally she talks to him, in contrast to her reputation for being very quiet and shy.
If we recall the line from episode 3 about how Rudeus needs to find someone who he can fully trust, the same thing applies very much to Sylphie (thinking generally, not just romantically). The last key to Rudeus moving on from his depression will be finding someone he can really open up to and confide in (Suzanne and Soldat both provided important help, but in the end they're still people he'd only just met). Sylphie is one of only a handful of people in the world who could fit that bill, who can truly make him recognize that he's not totally alone. Thinking about Sylphie, though, she really needs the exact same thing. Keep in mind, Sylphie has been living this assumed Fitz identity for FIVE YEARS at this point, literally a third of her life. Day in and day out, she has to suppress her own identity and focus on being Fitz, always on guard to make sure she doesn't slip up and give herself away. I think that's also part of what's going on in the LN chapter that got skipped. Sylphie is struggling with the psychological issues of having to maintain the Fitz identity in public while not losing her own - those early morning hours might be the only time where she feels she can "put aside" the Fitz persona and just be Sylphie for a bit. In those circumstances, of course everyone around her sees her as shy and withdrawn - she can't ever form connections with anyone else because of the risk involved. The only two people who do know her true identity are her friends, but they also clearly have their own agendas which she is little more than a pawn in, so she can never completely trust them.
Now, enter Rudeus, the person she can absolutely trust. Even leaving aside the romantic aspect, it must be a huge relief and a ray of sunshine for Sylphie to finally have someone she can let down her guard around even a bit, someone where she isn't forced to parse every word through the filter of not giving away even the slightest hint of her secret. Obviously she hasn't taken the full step of actually *telling* Rudeus her secret yet, but she can at least interact with him without the prospect of letting her secret slip seeming so terrifying like it is with everyone else. So Sylphie has fallen into interacting with Rudeus in a more normal way; I mean obviously she acts familiar with him because she *is* actually familiar with him, but it's important to realize that Sylphie hasn't been able to interact with *anyone* in that way since the teleportation incident.
❤
that's a really good analysis I never considered. Makes a lot of sense with what's happening rn
I second that, I also appreciate how in this video, it wasn't straight up mentioned that Rudeus actually sees/doesn't see Slyphie as her actual self running in the morning. Just a little Easter egg for us to get giddy about 🥰
Rudeus and Sylphie take part in the Global customs!
Your comments rock man!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
People who don't know that this same customs was implemented in this same world several hundred years ago need to explore history lol. While on the darker side it still exists in the modern era.
@@cloverpod
"Slavery is racist!"
"What about human trafficking?"
"That isn't slavery!"
I guess you aren't a slave unless you're picking cotton then😂
In all seriousness, people complaining about slavery in *fiction* just shows how many people have no life other than to complain on the internet about pointless topics
Call me a twitter user or whatever, but what really made me unsettled about the episode is how Rudeus was unfazed by the thought of getting a slave, like I know its the global custom, that’s not the issue. What I’m saying is that reaction and then total nonchalantness about the decision to get a slave doesn’t really map on to how a person from the 21th century would react to such a proposal. Like did he just totally forget the ethics of the world he lived in for 34 years of his life? Maybe it was explained in the LN more but it was definitely not explained well in the anime to me.
She didn't defeat them one on two, she defeated their group of about 20, and the two.
Wtf giggachad
oh damn thats just a bit more impressive jeez, go slyphie
I am surprised how Zanoba tried to name Julie Julius was not mentioned. It is the first time it is shown how traumatized he was when he killed his brother. Up until that moment it was never thought to be an accident. The light novel goes into more detail.
This was mentioned in the anine.
@@khronos2213 They touched on it slightly, but if you have read the light novel you will realize it was a much greater trauma than the anime makes it out to be.
Rudues is heavily gifted, its just not always spoken. For a magician to reach rank Advanced in a life time its considered not without effort. Its not something which can easily be done, and you need a certain level of natural talent to achieve it.
It was said in the light novel something like 1 in 40,000-50,000 Advanced rank magians will ever reach Saint class which Rudues is currently. Its not something unheard of but on a person to person scale borderline impossible, which only really happens on a global scale.
Than there is also the issue with parties, just because a party has a high rank doesn't mean everyone in the party is that good, they are that good as a group combined. There are certain people who could easily wipe the floor with an S-Tier party.
There is just a difference in skill between an S-Tier adventures, and S-Tier parties in generally.
All things considered he's only a Saint class because there's no one around to help him advance further, other than him pouring a large amount of mana into a spell to raise it above that, best example is his rock cannon, or the fire spell he used against orsted.
I think the manga handled the scene with Juliette the best. Something the Ranoa university arc really does in the manga is show just how different Rudy’s personality can be when he’s serious vs. when he is relaxed. This scene was the first to me that highlighted that. In the manga, he didn’t seem as soft as he did in the anime. Sylphie even reacted to the question he asked Juliette despite not knowing what he was saying because his demeanor changed so much in a split second. And then the way Rudy quickly reacted to Juliette saying she doesn’t want to die by putting his coat over her and carrying her away also just highlighted that admirable side of his character in a way the anime didn’t really convey in my opinion. I understand the differences and why they were made, but my interpretation of both scenes was completely differed because of a few small, key details
The point is that Rudeus wanted to ask Julie in a "kind" way, not being an edgelord like the manga
@@quitw18 I didn’t view it as Rudy being an edgelord but if that’s your perspective I won’t fight you on that. The point of my comment is that I prefer how it was done in the manga.
it would've been nice if the anime explicitly told us that sylphy's parents died. it would've made her choice to stick with the princess and not look for the missing people of the town more sensible.
she will on a later episode though, when meeting nanahoshi
@@RedSaltedEGG when she gonna let him know it's her??? I was more mad about her keeping her identity a secret
@@naturallykiera5063 i think that has to do with keeping the position as fitz , not saying rudeus would spit it out to other, but there might be some magic involved? Or just keeping a promise to never reveal her identity
@@naturallykiera5063 it should make it on the first part. fitz has her own sets of reasons, so please be patient with her
now ofcourse this would still depend on the pacing, but this is my rough guess for the future episodes
gist of episodes below! possible spoilers!
episode 7 - dedoldia/adoldia's chapter
episode 8 - cliff's chapter
episode 9 - violet man seen in the earlier episodes
episode 10 - nanahoshi
episode 11 - fitz
episode 12 - fitz again, and possibly the letter from geese to connect to part 2
@@RedSaltedEGG So in your honest opinion; should i just start reading the manga? I don't really like manga that's black an white but i know i do be missing out alot from just watching the anime...
TBH, Julie will become everyones favourite. She Is sooo hella cute. But you are right, The Manga did, (despite the fact that it actually brings its on twists and comidic scenes) a phenomenal job on portraiing Julies dispair.
Ikr, tbh, I was kinda disappointed at the anime’s adaptation compared to the manga
@@heilamwether8911 kinda same here. They did bring it to live, but her eyes were too lively for her dispair. They should've at least intensivy it by 10 or so.
@@heavy_elitetbh even in the first episode reudus’ despair wasn’t as expressive as in the manga either
@@Sketchy_Dood I do actually agree on your statement. But they visualized it as actually hella funny, as seen when he wandered with our favorite ever horney elf. I hope they bring the focus a bit more to is ED in the upcoming episodes.
For me it was a lot more different, they did an excellent job in that scene, just by the fact that she was the main focus there and they didn't try to make it about Rudeus, he mirrored himself. I had to watch the scene several times and the more you watch it, it gets sadder.
Regarding Julie, in the manga Rudeus knows from his own past how pointless it would be to give her a role/tasks that she had no interest in and ultimately if she wanted to die, he would grant her that at least. The manga panels hit a lot harder than the anime showed but generally speaking Rudeus' offering was an act of kindness which I think some people missed from watching the anime alone. Thanks for these videos, they're genuinely some of my favourites on TH-cam.
The manga is heavily inaccurate to novel lore
@@kamih3nt4169honestly unfortunate but the lns are genuinely the definitive way to read
i don't understand how they could miss it
his question served 2 purposes
if she wanted to die he would offer her that mercy
but if she wanted to live he would offer her that mercy
doing the right thing isn't a black and white thing, it is contextual.
When is anything not controversial on “X” 😩
@AniNews Regarding the Sylphie addressing Fitz as a separate person situation , I seen it more as her addressing the “image/persona” of Fitz all while still addressing the “Fitz” next to Ariel as still a literal separate person. By that I mean seeing how powerful “Fitz’s” image is to everyone and how well known “he” is, that even just the sight of him could probably deter some assassins. And so, given that princess Ariel possesses a magic item that allows someone to change their appearance into someone else, the person across the room may either be Luke himself or another attendant, disguised as “Fitz.” Not that it would be very convincing if someone looked close enough, but it still would probably be a valid deterrent, and if it fails than they’ll just ring the alarm and fight normally either way. So when she refers to the “Fitz” across the room she’s referring to the “image/ persona” of “Fitz” as well as the person underneath the disguised.
Ah, that makes sense and even creates confusion for a possible assailant for even if they are aware of the subterfuge they never know if they are facing the real Fitz or someone disguised as Fitz and that hesitation might make all the difference.
Wait, if the glasses that Fitz wears makes him look like a guy??
@@_curiousTina_ the glasses help cover his facial features, but it’s his over all demeanor that makes him at the very least seem androgynous. (I.e. the way he dresses, his short hair, being “silent” or rather hiding his high pitched voice, and yes the glasses, which also hides his eye color) but if you’re asking if he wears any magical item that “turns him into a guy” then no. Ariel has a magical item that lets her or any user transform visually into someone else, but they’ll only look how that other person looks, they can’t just turn into whatever they want.
@@_curiousTina_ I think it's more Rudeus's bias showing through. Our idea of Elves is that they are slim and androgynous and Rudy has had little contact with Elves as a whole, so because people keep referring to Slyphy as "Mr." Fitz that codes her as male in his mind.
in the novel it reads a bit confusingly, but seeing that Ariel has an appearance duplication ring (which she uses later in the story to have a walk around town disguised as Fitz) the idea seems to be that one of her assistants assumes the identity of Fitz during the night guard because Fitz is way more of a fearsome rival that any other bodyguard, plus that adds up to the aura of mystery that Fitz has (a mute magic user and ultra powerful bodyguard that never sleeps), and as an extra it lets Sylphie rest better to take over the day guard duties. As for the sunglasses, it's mentioned that they are also an artifact that apparently faintly impedes the recognition of the user's features except to those that already know who that person is. whether that's just because of the strange design or an actual magical effect it's never explained
This was legit today’s episode 😂
Sounds like this episode was meant to be more gut wrenching near the end and more "cultured" round the beginning and middle. Can't wait for the next one!

The newest episode goes into the morning routine
Slavery has been a part of human history for at least 6,000 years, all known peoples in history either were and/or had salves at some point, and slavery still goes on today. In fact, owning a slave was the norm all over the world up until the 1900s. So for people to be shocked or act like it is controversial is due to their own lack of knowledge, especially when it is not our world which has changed its values and morality over time. Rudeus & Sylphe saving a girl from slavery is actually good.
Slavery was a thing in WW2 dude.

I don't think Rudeus really wanted to die back then. He took his only friend for granted in his depressive state and after he yelled and kicked him out he had every intention to apologise after he came back, but he never did. The isolation that he brought to himself through that act and his already shit mental state made it really hard for him to reach out, assuming that no one cared for him anyway and he thought it would be better to die.
What he did for Juliette was to show her that he was willing to end it for her, but if she had just one spark of hope he would give her purpose and a life that she didn't think was possible. He knew that sometimes you have to hold a mirror up to someone else's darkness.
I think it was more of kindred spirits. One who has passed the darkness and one who was deep into it. Who better to pull you out than someone who knows what it's like.

it was an amazing video, but now that the new episode has aired, I have a little critique. In the early part of the video you talked about the skipped chapter. This chapter however got adapted in the nex episode so it became an unintended spoiler (although minor). I know it goes against the whole idea of the series, but could you consider refraining from talking about skipped chapters and bigger portions of the novels as the anime seems to be adapting some things non-lineary such as the scene with Rudy's mother in the last episode of season 1 and now this. I honestly do not know what to suggest in terms of how to classify a scene as "skipped" and what would appear later on. Nevertheless, I would be thankful if you at least think about it. Keep up the great work with this series

Probably the cheery fake smile covering malicious plotting (trying not get triggered at the mention of Arifureta there)
@@Sketchy_Dood Yeah maybe it is that very reason.

Watching this after watching THIS week's episode and realizing I'm a video behind and that the "missed content" must have been pushed back an episode because Sylphie's Day starts this one.
Damn, it's really impressive what all the light novels have and include, and the anime series still manages to feel "complete" and whole without, but I have to admit, I really would've liked if they would've tried to fit in just a few more quotes found in the LNs that this video mentions..
I guess that isn't really something that should be surprising or anything new. I've experienced this before with numerous other works, but yet it always manages to surprise me again.
But if they could've just taken literally like 2 and a half seconds maybe? Each of these lines, I really feel it would've helped flesh out the world/characters and help viewers get an even better idea and understanding of them.
I didn't recall it being mentioned that mana capacity was the problem why he couldn't make figurines. Maybe I just missed it. But even if so, I assume they didn't include the fact Rudy's mana pool is exponentially higher than previously expected, and him personally coming to that realization himself, as a surprise.
"I don't like the idea of you training a slave over me" - I didn't even think about this angle of it when I was watching it, but totally makes sense.
Rudy thinking that it wouldn't be such a bad gig to just make figurines all day for him and keeping that idea in his back pocket just incase, I don't recall this being mentioned either, and also, obv, really makes sense.
But most importantly, the idea of mass producing them, even painting them, and selling them bundled with a book, as a source of making serious, mad income. That's a fucking brilliant idea. I really hope they mention that in a future ep. That's one of those rare ideas I feel like is a perfect bow on a series and wraps everything together nicely, and allows you to justify why a character has so much disposable income or can afford something otherwise unattainable. Instead of just "Oh, I got a bunch of loans from friends in high places." like I've heard in other series. Which, I guess works..
But it's a lot cooler to see them rely on their own intelligence and having a legitimate revenue stream, instead of just calling in favors. Financially at least. Utilizing your social connections to call in a favor better suits stories of like, asking X person to be at Y location for story purposes, instead of just "Hey man, can I get a loan for the sake of plot?"
because of you i actually start the manga and ngl since the start of s2 I prefer the manga than the anime, the tiny detail gives so much difference

With this combined it feels as though we get 2 episodes of mushoku tensei a week
Watching this I realized it wasn't skipped.
...It was just covered a chapter after.
I really like the way you present, usually i am wary about watching any videos about a show i am following, since spoilers massively ruin the fun for me. So you not spoilering future content while still explaining that certain behaviour/scenes is great :)
Anyone wanting more Mushoku Tensei I suggest reading/listening to Old Dragon's Tale there is an audio book version on youtube but it gets into the whys of the world and some of the underlying characters that why see not very often that are crucial to the story like the Man-God, Perguius, Orsted, and even Laplace (not why he has 2 forms though)
3:40 I was so confused when reading this part of the LN !!! I was sure Fitz and Silphiette were one and the same and here they are two totally different persons!!!! 😅
@AniNews please continue Arifureta cut content season 3 has been announced to be in production!
8:07 "He could defintely see how Fitz she was" LOL good wordplay
could u please start a series about 'The Irregular at Magic High School'
It doesn't have to be "I Want To Live" , sometimes "I Don't Want To Die" is enough
What I still wonder is what he would have done if she had replied. With a _yes_
He surely knew that this would have massive consequences...
the manga also depicted rudys face when offering the "mercy" option way better. it's a dread only those who have experienced can truly sympathize with.
The dream caught me off guard
Okay now it makes sense. When he offered to kill her I wondered why Rudy so quickly jumped to that offer but seeing her manga state it makes sense
The Fitz part in the chair hurt my Brain when I read it, it made. No sense and I had to read it 4 times and still was confused
You are right
Love the fact that Rudy knows about Saitama
The Sylphie story details were cool
Sylphie having a wet dream is something that definitely should've made it into the episode. completely inexcusable that this was left out.
This is literally this weeks episode
I think you got it dead on for the interaction between Rudi and Julie save for one thing. He was going to grant that mercy to someone who had no hope left, no desire to keep going. While she was at the end of her rope, she still didn't want to die which, while not being the same as "I want to live", was at least enough to allow her to keep going. That was all that Rudi needed to make the decision to take her in to his ad-hoc family.
I see the whole thing with Sylphie and Fitz as her compartmentalizing the Fitz persona as someone separate to herself in her own mind.
THE LOCAL CUSTOMS
LMAO what did you just say..?? 8:05
is that pun intended lol.
I just read the Sylphie chapter in the book, and boy was it confusing. It also made me realize that you are essentially narrating the chapter, but I don't mind! The simple, conversational writing style works well for reading aloud, and you sprinkle your own commentary in here and there. It makes it a great companion for reading through the novels!
To me it was both giving her an option of mercy but also showing her that it's a decision she must make. If he just took her and she didn't want to he would rob her of the most important thing that had up until that point been denied to her. Choice. He gave her a choice do you want to live? Or not? Biologically we have a natural desire but when your at deaths door and your autonomy robbed from you just being able to make the most basic of decisions such as I live today or I don't, reaches out to her humanity and the fact that she's a person and deserves autonomy.
