Sony a7 - Fullframe for cheap

  • It's nearly 10 years ago, the first mirrorless fullframe camera was announced. The Sony a7. And again, Sony showed, what's possible. As before with the very compact RX1, this camera is so small, but has all the features of the much bigger dslr's and the beginning of a successful story. With every new generation it'll be better and better. Except one point(imo). The design. I like this mk1 more than the successors. It's...cooler. There are some flaws, but for that relatively little money I can live with them. Color-science, eye-af, start-up time, menu are some of them. With the 35mm 2.8 it's a slightly bigger alternative to the RX1 with an integrated evf and better batterielife. So a really good 'old" camera till today!

I think a lot of people forget just how small the original A7 line of cameras really was. Cool video!

Thank you very much! That's my thought. It's a slightly bigger RX1 with an evf.

I agree completely about the design of the original. I've been putting off getting a full frame camera for years. Since I don't need to make money with it, I want to buy something cheap. It's between the A7 and the A7s.

Great camera indeed, and like you said, the color science is bit challenging, for me, with a slight move to the warmer side it would look nicer.
As for the autofocus, if you’re not shooting action sports, then it will be fine, it’s a perfect enthusiast camera that can still act as a pro, many beginners still use those 10 years old or even older, this one is much better and it doesn’t break the bank.
For shooting videos, then, it’s a different story.

Hey are you in E----? Me too. I know these places! I watch FUTC Channel a lot. I think he's in Cologne or one of the D cities. Anyway, nice video. I like the pacing and the music. Some great shots here. I've been thinking about one of these Sonys myself. I have always been blown away by their power and they put food on the table for many years. I've been so fixated on the smaller format cameras (rx100iii, gx9, em5, fuji x100xyz) for so long that I've neglected full frame. That needs to change, eh? I do a bit of video and have been a bit unsure about this model for that, but I'm just shooting for fun mostly now anyway. My wife has the real job in the family! Subbed.

Thank you very much! Yes, Essen is next to my hometown. FUTC reviewed the same camera, I know...what a coincidence :D
Sony was always very innovative and trend-setting. But the smaller APS-C cameras are also very good, I like them a lot!

My first interchangeable lens camera, bought it in 2020 and had a blast using it with vintage lenses.
Now I upgraded to the A7 2, to get that sensor stabilization; really worth it imo

I literally just did that 🤣 "upgraded" from my trusty old Canon 70D to a cheap Alpha 7 (350€) since I wanted to get a longer ( I had Canon 55-250 lens) telephoto lens and spending 800€ on a Tamron 150-600 G2 seemed like a waste on a "dead" platform. So I decided to switch platform and might get a newer Alpha 7 down the line (faster AF for wildlife and sports/action), but for now I got a kit lens (28-70) so I got myself a 500€ full frame upgrade. And then I got a used 200-600 and I have to say I am loving it.

Cool video :) Can you please detail what you have done to solve the color science problem ? Can it be done in camera with a modded picture profile ? If so can you share your settings ? Thanks in advance for your help !

      Thank you very much!
I can't remember the exact settings, but it was a variation of the Kodak Gold Simulation from www.veresdenialex.com/8-free-sony-film-simulations
The older Sony color-sience is a little bit on the cooler side, so I tried to keep it warmer. All the photos you see in the video are soon.

I'd rather have a Nikon D700... Fullframe for cheaper! I know it's an apples vs oranges comparison being that one is mirrorless and the other being a DSLR.

    • @yesteryearcameras
      @yesteryearcameras  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Oh yes, I know! DSLR'S are cheaper and I love them! The results are the same, but mirrorless has some advantages in therms of size and weight etc.

I also prefer the D700 since I have a lens collection that cannot be adapted to Z bodies and I don't want to replace them with more expensive Z lenses. If I found an A7 really cheap I might give mirrorless a try with adapted Nikkor lenses.

Yeah, that adapter problem going to the Z cameras is a drag. I have four old Nikon lenses that I thought were going to go on like butter. Sadly , not so much!
