8-Bit Remix of Pneuma by TOOL. This is probably my most difficult project yet, and I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. Those drums are insane!
(Edit: Forty Six & 2 cover now uploaded!) Just noticed that this video has gotten a lot of views lately for some reason, thanks for the support everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve made an 8bit cover, but I might have to make another Tool cover if enough people are interested!
I suppose it's something he would have said on another occasion with his friends about other songs and his own, Mark Portnoy is great. music is mathematics.
@@MichaelG485 Yea it's cool, but then it's sad scrolling down seeing people have imaginary relationships with someone they never met and then feeling the need to tell the world about how their imaginary friend feels about something.... Like why can't we just enjoy things without people needing to express their mental disorders?
I find that having a version like this really helps me outline all the ideas from the original artist and lets me see deeper into their creation process. Sometimes in rock/metal music things get buried beneath the layers and guitar effects. Plus the 8-bit is kinda cheeky and relaxing
Humanity is capable of amazing things and wonderous achievements sometimes. This didn't NEED to exist, but thanks to some truly dedicated person, it DOES... and I think we live in a far better world for it.
Man, this brings be back. Back to the pre-Napster days when I'd be searching for an mp3 for a song and get so excited to finally find it, only for it to be a midi instead of the band. And some of them were *really* well done, as this one is, which I can appreciate now that I can access the actual song on demand. Seriously impressive effort.
The very slight reverb on the drums was such a good decision. It really helps it cut through the mix, which is something a lot of other 8 Bit artists don't take into consideration. One other thing that might help make the mix a little clearer is panning the guitar tracks half left and half right. I notice in some parts it's going out of phase because they're sort of cancelling each other out. It's not a HUGE deal though because that out of phase sound is kinda part of the aesthetic so that's more just personal taste. Great work though!
This is absolutely stunning! As someone who grew up on the 8-bit sound, this reminds me of how I felt when I heard the Final Fantasy VI music for the first time - blown away!
Just now getting this recommendation from YT, and damn. Well done! All the volume changing and keeping up with the odd drum timing in the original. This had to be pretty rough in midi lol
This is amazing. This really allows you to hear all the layers on each other more profoundly. It’s so amazing I absolutely love this. Does anyone else agree that when you listen to covers or drum only tracks you hear a totally different song?
What program do you use for this? I’ve been looking to make some more chiptune style stuff like this for a while now and just haven’t found a great program for it yet
This is so on point and awesome 🤘 Also love seeing old and fresh comments! Shows how timeless Tool and this song specifically is and of course this rendition of it. Rock on!
It's probably because Tool is awesome ! but for real a lot of people are trying drum and instramental challenges with this song particularly in the last couple of years and I for one am all for it cause tool is one of my all time favorite bands and I am pretty sure I will love them till the day I die. also when the verse finally comes in it sounds so much like the old like contra video games it is sooooo coool man keep it up bud please. some suggestions that might sound really cool in 8 bit if you havent done it already that is maybe some apocalyptica or some polyphia would be cool imo

Do it! Stinkfist would be my request
I’d love to hear it, I’d suggest either lateralus or the wings of Marie (1-2)
Duuuude, do Czar/Usurper from Mastadon!! That shit would hit so hard.
Schism, please. Thank you.
All of the above
Sounds like a perfect song for an atmospheric dungeon crawler
I was thinking something similar, that it would have worked perfectly on a game like Underwurlde.
@@marco_foco Time to make the game: 2-3 years. Time to make the OST for the game: 14 years
Most tool songs are atmospheric. Lateralus or H. would be great for that kind of thing as well
Castlevania XX
I was JUST thinking this while posting another comment about something completely different.
This isn't music, this is a mathematical equation - Mike Portnoy
All music is a mathematical equation... wait until you get to Parabola!
@@juliotorres3789 That's what Portnoy actually said, learning patterns of Pneuma. So thank you, but I doubt your briefing would be appreciated.
I suppose it's something he would have said on another occasion with his friends about other songs and his own, Mark Portnoy is great. music is mathematics.
6-6-5 - neighbor of the beast 😂🤘
He nailed that cover though

Hands up if when you started this, you thought it was going to be crap, then listened to the end because it's so impressive. 👋🏼
Same. Definitely captures the song very well.
One of the best 8-Bit songs I have personally ever heard
🙋♂️🤣
Pneuma is a complicated song to pull off and you did it justice with this badass cover. Great job!! Maynard would be proud.
maynard didn't even write it, what are you talking about?
@@iantrolington6594 Yeah, Maynard would give a shit about this.
I still think it's pretty cool though.

@@iantrolington6594okay ian trollington, it’s not that deep dawg. enjoy the intriguing cover and be positive, lift others up not bring them down.
Maynard is not even participating in the instrumentals writing process. He just lays lyrics on a finished instrumental.
The best Castlevania song you’ve never heard
Incroyable.
Tool just posted this, gotta be a crowning achievement in life negl
where did they post it?
Where?
Would you mind sharing where you found this? Thanks!
@@8BitWafflemy bad it was the account tool nation and I got in confused because it was verified, I’m sorry😭
@@big_body_bizinga9049Ohhh haha no worries!
Three years old and TH-cam just brought this to me. Commenting so hopefully others get it too. Awesome job!! 🤘
Same, and I’ve been listening to Tool for over 20 years at this point. This is amazing!
just popped up for me now, well done
Same here thanks this needs shared
Same!! Also commenting to get this out to the rest of the tool army!
The epitome of the Metroidvanian soundscape.
This is one of the best recommendations youtube has ever given , good job on creating this..
Wow, good one! This is the first 8bit song made my eyes wet because there is a sick relationship with me and this song.
So say us all. 😂
made me cry
This is Doom 1993 final level worthy…
Damn, nailed the drum fills and everything!! 💯🔥
i don't think there is any drum fills on the actual song?

@@Jack_DP What? Lol, the song is basically to showcase Danny's skills?

I'm rocking out to this way harder than what is appropriate for an 8-bit song
And no one has a problem with that 😂
This kicks ass
This would probably make a good ringtone.
I guess the average caller is to impatient for you to appreciate the masterpiece^^
I'd miss every single call!

ahhhh, the good'ol days...
Ah yes, the good days of having to have sony sonic foundry and acid pro to put those midis to good use too!
The Doors - Riders on the Storm midi I heard back then was as good as the real thing
Clicked coz I was curious „this can’t be good“ 10 minutes later I’m still here listening to every second of it… amazing
Sounds like something from Metroid. I love it 😍
There is something deeply soul satisfying to this.
Ditto
2 minutes in and I'm switching it from my phone to the living room TV. I'm in for all 12 minutes.
This needs to be in a video game. I can see playing a new NES game with this song.
Jesus. 3 yeard old and we are just hearing this?????????
Could you imagine this on old school Metroid?
Dude. Would be bliss.
For real. That would be the lulz.
My first thought... Feels like a flashback nearly 30 years ago playing metroid...obviously I am not the only one
the Legend of Maynard
This is fantastic! As a Tool fan AND someone that grew up in the 8-bit gaming era, you just hit (at least) half of my heartstrings
Looks like TH-cam algorithm brought a lot of us here recently. I wonder if its due to Drumeo.
Probably
Yes for me
The fine details are incredible. I mentioned this in your vid on 46&2 but like, the snare clicks at 0:59 are perfect.
Cracking Danny's pattern is a feat by its own right - converting it to 8 bit for us is a huge extra credit.
Amazing job - thank you! ❤
I feel like I just played the final level and let the credits roll! EPIC! SO GOOD!
Perfect song to play Metroid to
You sir, have all my respect for this piece. This is one of the hardest song ever.
Bravo!
It's interesting to hear such a flowing and rhythmic song in a soundfont that's usually just simple stuff.

Does tool have a pinball machine yet? I know for sure KISS does and Elvis too.
@@colethewolfboy I really highly doubt they would do that. They seem super particular about what sort of merch they put out.
I've never been so gratefull with the algorithm of TH-cam than in this moment, this is magical and perfect.
My mind can’t comprehend how good this is. Like how is this possible? Well done.
Wow! This is brilliant! Very good job! I got goosebumps! ❤️🍻

Last boss
No way those are midi drums. They sound so good!
Top shelf Dude.
Danny keeps such perfect time it’s almost like he is playing this
Machine tempo, Danny tempo, both a bit too perfect; Danny is an insane oddity and we love him for it!
Amazing stuff, seriously.
now I want to watch a mix of Danny's drum cam with this as the audio track

Man this would be sick to be in an old NES adventure game
Where has this been since my childhood … great work!

This is awesome. I want to this to be a soundtrack to one of my childhood games on Atari 2600. Well done, this was quite the undertaking!!!
Oh, my god! I wonder how much skill it took to make this masterpiece an 8-bit masterpiece!? Brilliant!
This is tripping me out!!! Where am I? Great job, never would I have imagined hearing Tool classic video game music!
Amazing work. So glad the algorithm seems to be kicking it into people’s feeds (mine, too!). This beautifully captures the song in a unique way. Bravo
Incredible work. I’m glad the algorithm has finally showed it to all of us. I would love a video on your creation process, synth building etc.
