I have been searching to find this song for more than 20years....no one believed me when I said there was a male vocal version and I had this on cassette before Groove Theory brought it out 18mths later. This song is everything!
Well Amel Larrieux who was the lead vocalist of Groove Theory actually wrote this for Rhythm N Bass. Her voice is even heard in this version. This version didnt perform well on the charts at all so she decided to sing it herself and put it on the Groove Theory album as they needed one more song.
@@toddpace4588 Makes more sense considering it was a woman's voice to begin with. The first time I heard the Groove Theory version, it resonated with me from the female POV. It just feels different in the GT version, not because I'm used to it, but the flow is just so much better. More naturally heartfelt. It's gentler and more romantic when Amel sings it. It lacks umph with the fellas. ijs
This song was actually written by Amel Lareaux for Rhythm N Bass, when Groove Theory were about to release their album they needed one more song and because this original version didn't do as well as it should've they went back in the studio, re-worked the music and recorded it themselves.
I originally worked on the whole project. The boys were from the UK but signed to Sony in both US & UK. Peter Thomas of Real Housewives of Atlanta fame managed the group. He also managed Bryce who originally wrote the song with Amel. The band were dropped by Sony due to disputes with Peter and the label. Bryce & Amel took back the song formed Groove Theory then released it. Joe Thomas' original version I'm in Love was originally named Round and Round. The band originally recorded that too as I co-produced it but again never released and Joe took back the track. All of this was back in 1992. Great memories....
I'd say reworked version by Amel of Groove Theory (who wrote and arranged this version as well) has more of a 70s influence. This is more New Jack sounding.
@@thebeatnumber The Groove Theory one does have a 70s influence but with the beat and bass it is contemporary with the sound of the late 90s. It mixes with the same sound as Dru Hill, BlackStreet, Ginuwine etc. Like i mentioned also early 90s would encapsulate New Jack Sound.
I think the drums and the bass groove for groove theory version made it a hit. Amels voice and groove theory's musical arrangement is much better specifically for that time.
@@stakesishigh577 right this is the classic new jack swing sound. They smoothed it out on the grove theory version because new jack swing was out of style around late 95'
I can hear Amel singing background vocals on this and she also has a songwriting credit as Amel Stowell, which was her maiden name before she married Laru Larrieux
They wrote it for Trey Lorenz, but he didn't use it on his album, so they gave it to Rhyth N Bass. The male voice you hear on the Groove Theory version is Trey Lorenz.
BEAUTIFUL!! To my great surprise, this is my kinda one!! It seems that with different artists singing the same song, it is invigorating to revisit the beauty. Amel's part was mind-blowing.
No, groove theory had the opportunity to tweak as they recorded later in line with the sound of mid-late 90s, this will be my favourite out of the 2 simply because the guys were true vocalists who never got pushed by the record company (uk side never thought our singers could compete with the Americans... when but think about the vocals that were out at that time)otherwise things may have been different.
@@tkodahawk1 Still, it doesn't change the fact that it's a matter of taste. Just because a song didn't become a hit doesn't mean that the song isn't good

Glad u found it, that would’ve been frustrating lol

understandable why you couldn't find it, it was just uploaded on TH-cam 2 years ago, somebody must have found their old cassette lol
@@toddpace4588 YUP! I just found out exactly what u said 5mins ago. That’s what brought me here to listen to this UK 🇬🇧 group.

I have a question...is Rhythm N Bass is from Nyc???
@@Itz-Ze-101 no, they’re from the UK, I saw them perform once in a club when they first came out.

I see used certain vocals from this in the Groove Theory version
Oh wow! I recognize Amel on the track! She didn't just write this for them! She was in the background and breakdown! Cool!
Just discovered this original today! (12/20/2022) It’s nice and very aligned with the early ‘90s sound! 🎶🤎
Wed 12/20/2023 for me😅 Wow exactly a yr today from your comment.
I like this version 2. It makes me feel like I did back in my 20's....🥰🥰🥰
This has almost a dusty, raw feel to it. I can get with that.
How I missed this song in 1992 I never miss a Classic Song 🎵
Song was still produced by Bryce Wilson, then 2 years later he produced it for his group Groove Theory 🤷🏾♂️🙄
I still like the groove theory version much more. Amel added so much smoothness and soul to the song ifykwim lol
Amel Larrieux wrote the song, so, it was meant for her.
I like the double bass on the Groove Theory one.. 🎼
Amel is singing the bridge! Love how she recycled her own song 👏👏👏👏

It sounded better for Groove Theory in my opinion but this version is solid. @@wayneblack4085
I don’t think This was promoted well because I think
It sounds good
funny story it was written by groove theory but the song didn't do well for rhythm and bass so bryce wilson decided put it on their album

FACTS!
@@georgedepalma429 😳 So Bryce never SANG?? Who knew
Yeah I knew that wasn't Bryce singing. Bryce is a more of hip hop producer. I remember him from mantronix@@tinker2217
If I would have heard this back then, I would have been in love😍😅
Yes❤

This is still the jam yes the grove covered it and did a fantastic job but this will always be the one and first
Amele wrote it for them, originally.
amel is actually on the bridge!
This early 90’s UK sounds
Lol
I kind of like this version better
Just found this
Damn it’s good
I spent most of the 90s in the UK but never hear of this version or the group. I like it but think that GT is a better recording
Sounds like it wasn’t promoted well then. It sounds good, promotions the problem
Not surprised..I mean group Tag Team used 95 south - Whoot there it is to Whoomp there it is..
Dang.. now that I’m hearing this version, I remember it
Salute to the originators!
It's a win win situation for Groove Theory since Amel co-wrote and Bryce produced both versions
Crazy crazy crazy
Amel wrote this for them
I like boffum!
Love this so much 😍😍
A great show in Groove Theory's voice, it's also magnificent.

Wonderful voices!!!!! They are just giving their everything..
mind blown !!! 💀
This is real 💪🏿
Mind blown! Wow
Been looking for this too?? Just like the Shazam Sinbad movie
I like both version
I actually like this version more.
I actually like it. But yes Groove theory put that fire on it.
This is Cool!
Very good
I think this song is all that & then some ! ✨
The original was Groove Theory cause I did this Version THE ETHNIC BOYZ
I’m listening to this track like it just got released today, don’t get me wrong I love Groove Theory but this song OMGGGG!!!!
I wish someone would blend/mix the groove theory instrumental onto rhythm n bass Acapella and see how that comes out..
Insurmountable
This is wild 👁
They also made JOE'S first hit
Wow, HAD NO IDEA??????

こっちがオリジナルなんでしょうか??
そうです!
How much did Groove Theory pay them for using their song and making it a hit?
nothing. Groove Theory wrote it for Rhythm N Bass.
The best sounds familiar to Baby Love. Am I the only one hearing it?
clearly amel... sung them out the room.... thx girl
It's not as polished as the groove theory version. Still surprised it wasn't big when it released
It's always a matter of taste! Some people like the original version (me too) and others like the copy
This version is WAY better.
This is good, but Groove Theory made it better.
Agreed 💯.
Grove theory version way better
Wow this is so crap!
Groove theory did it better.

Groove Theory sounds way better than this lazy version. Don't hate people who do it better !!!
