This is the best anime ive seen all year and ill take no further questions. See my full uncut live reactions to the episodes over on Patreon www.patreon.com/BrandonReviews
Badeni is such a compelling and multidimensional character. He is a thinker and a seeker that values integrity and authenticity more than societal expectations or standards. I'm so drawn to his determination to defy all odds to seek truth and knowledge. Even tho he lost his eyesight, he still persists in his beliefs/values and is willing to put down his ego to go with Oczy to see the box Rafael has left behind. As for Oczy, he is really changing bit by bit now. It is actually very realistic how Uoto portrays his fear and how this fear gradually is dissolved by Gras and the astronomer's sacrifice and by Badeni opening his eyes to a world of knowledge. And yea I agree some scenes are still quite dark, they could have tuned it up a bit. I get that they wanna create the contrast that initially Oczy thinks the human world is dark and heaven (the sky) is bright and illuminating. And when he is enlightened, the scenes are brightened up too. It could be a bit brighter generally tho. Amazing review as always! Can't wait for the next episode 😆
Another way I’ve seen retrograde motion explained is to imagine two cars driving down the highway. One is going faster than the other and ends up passing it. Both are clearly moving forward in the same direction. Nothing is actually going backwards, but to the car that was going faster, it looks like the other car was going backwards, when really, it was just being left behind.
This is the 3rd time this anime has given me impressive goosebumps, and not only because of the depiction of this oppressive but crystalised milky-starry sky set above constantly shadowy backgrounds The music is fantastic and the development with Oczy finally able to look at the sky (now without all those huge eyes able to "judge" his "pathetic and miserable state") starting working on behalf of this new-entry character, an exiled monk, is simply fantastic. I loved Badeni's flashback and his personal and ahead-of-time reflections about the condition of human knowledge and its apparent inability to progress without transgressing the divine Laws, with which he comes to boldly defy the untouchable certainties established by his own institution: the several scars and the bandana make him a cool yet so profound personality at a first glimpse. Plus, all Badeni's theoretical explanations regarding the calculation and trajectory of the planetary motions he managed to deduce all by himself over the course of his clever studies, initially as an ordinary cleric, were a lot fascinating to me, even if they could be difficult to understand if you are not at all familiar with the subject. There are a couple of unexpectedly funny moments focused on these two, tho. X,D Finally, the "rational beauty" contained in the final dialogue, the icing on the cake: yep, we can see tons of our predecessor Hubert's references right there. ^////^ In conclusion, I can easily declare that this one AND Dungeon Meshi are my personal AOTY. ^^
I think what makes this so interesting, is the fact that we see people from the old times, figuring out the way the universe really is, us knowing this information already amazes us as we see people come to the conclusions of today. It’s sort of like Dr Stone how the new primitive life figures out the different technologies and advancements that have made in todays modern society. This anime is absolutely amazing.
Orb has definitivly potential for anime of the year if the story keep being this good. But sadly when you don't have fights every 5 minutes, your anime will get overlooked by the average anime watcher. Remember how we had people calling Frieren boring just because every episode was not just fighting.
@rackchasinn9826 it's better for you to go in the show without any spoilers since early episodes relly on great plot twists. To describe the show without spoiling, It appears at first as a confrotation of science trying to understand how the univers really works vs a Church (inspired by Christianity but never explicitly named) that doesn't want to evolve in its conception of the world where the Erath would be the center of everything in the univers. To maintain the Status Quo, the Church is ready to torture and kill people that would want to change this perception of the world. Our main characters are trying to research on astronomy despite the risk of punishement by the Church.
This feeling of things just clicking once you change perspective or reframe the problem is what I like about doing mathematics. As my only other hobby besides anime. There are times I would spend days working on one problem, only to solve it as easily as breathing, once I change how I approach it. The thrill of that moment-when the pieces fall into place and everything makes sense-is exhilarating. And then you look back and it feels like it should have been obvious. Just how simple this puzzle of retrograde motion of planets actually is.
Man I really think the head Abbot left that book out on purpose to see if our boy would take the bait. No way he was that careless to leave it on the table with the windows open😅
The world is a contradiction in motion. You underachieve and are viewed as trash, overachieve and you are seen as trouble. There is just no pleasing this accursed humanity
I'm at the edge of my seat every episode, the thrill of discovery. It's very cool seeing how people figured this stuff out. Every new character they introduce is just as fascinating as the last.
I just notice that all the characters that exhibits curiosity on the cosmos have blue eyes like Rafal, the heretic and Badeni, by the time Oczy finaly realized the beauty of looking at the stars, his eyes turn to blue also, or maybe it's just a reflection.
Oczy Short guide how to properly read it: "O" like "o" in work, stock, mock, c... "cz" you pronouce in a good way, but for everyone else it's like "ch" in cherries "y" is pronouned like "uh" in english or like "o" in woman (the second one is probably closer) "Oczy" means "eyes"
The craziest part is how no matter how much the church try to keep people under there control there is always gonna be someone to rise and take what Rafal learned and actually complete the mission.
Badeni did nothing wrong. I just think he was born in the wrong time. Monks now usually tend to be more open-minded (at least my community is). Badeni is definitely my favorite character now.
@@Mackyrelsss Is calling him that a reference to his hair? The haircut he (and other monks have) is called a tonsure. It was more common for monks in the past. Most don't do it now, but how it's done now usually depends on the community. Also, he definitely is the goat since most monks at the time of the anime most likely aren't like him and he represents that monks are still people.
Agreed it is anime of the year at worst its one of the top contenders to be one. Finally Okjie looks up the starts and with the help of Badeni finally looks up the sky and see the beauty. Understing why others would risk doing what they did what he considered blasphemy and going to hell. The priest Badeni also wanted to be free and explore/ understand why the universe was like this acording the church findings when he knew there waws more to it. The explanations and revelation to them that the church is wrong and now they have the means to prove it will be interseting see what thye do next
wow i learn so much again in this episode badeni is another compelling character..oczy is still timid. my only complaint is that yeah the visuals is GOT (unsure which episode) dark.😅

Thank you for the explanation, orb explain it pretty good too but im kinda stupid lol your comment helps alot.
Is that the same thing as when it feels like you’re moving but you’re not when you’re watching another vehicle move? 🤔

This show is really connecting to me as a Christian and scientist. Brilliant stuff
Not a Christian nore a scientist but I find fascinating how the show presents things.

THINK BIGGER THAN ANIME OF THE YEAR. SCREENPLAY OF THE YEAR
Anime of the year 🗣️🔥
you know s*it is real when the MC gets replaced in the OP and ED. This show is getting slept on.

Human curiosity cannot be held back by institutions. A creator means a rational orderly world!

I totally agree, Orb is a great anime, but sadly a lot of people are sleeping on it. I hope that changes though. 👍
hard to beat Freren, but this is a close contender for that title. i'll die on that hill. this is so good. i can't get enough of this show.

Some of the extra darkness could technical errors. They could have a problem with blending the shading.
