My Mom was a single parent like so many others worked hard to make a healthy, happy home for me.... I surely will never forget the day when she surprised me with this game..... ❤ you so very much Mom.
So nostalgic of this masterpiece. Anyone remember at the beginning of the game : hold down, and press 2 when the word 'shinobi' appears ? You'll have access to all mission/levels.
Thank you brother. That F***ING boss. I never beat it. Not once. Every playthrough I've seen they're holding the same weapon so I can only assume that it's literally impossible with any other weapon because god DAMN. I tried going in close for quicker projectile despawn (not that I would have phrased it that way as a child). I tried standing at the back. I tried jumping up and down, I tried just standing and shooting and then moving back in stages. I tried standing first and THEN moving back all at once. I tried reasoning with it. I tried appealing to its better nature. I even sang to it one time. Even the contrivance of the boss makes no sense; what is that thing behind me? Why can't I just move towards the camera. I'm a NINJA, think of SOMETHING man! I see now what the problem was all along... it's a bad game. A bad game that should never have happened. Thoughts and prayers to all the fallen brothers that experienced a senseless loss of time this boss. To this GAME. For shame Sony. How did you let this happen? I will never forget.
@@Mat-ss8uw I've been learning this game recently, and I find it way easier to beat this boss with the shurikens. I don't know what it is, but with the rocket gun, I either die on the last statue or just barely make it - with the shurikens I never lose, and usually have plenty of room left after killing the final statue. I try to use the same strategy with both weapons, but the shurikens always work way faster. Again, I'm not sure why it goes like this for me, I'm still learning the quirks. Could be something silly like maybe the rocket gun's sound effect just doesn't give me the same response per hit, and thus makes me play slower.
One way I saw a guy play that stage was get as close as possible to the target. I guess it makes sense because it'll take less time for the projectiles to get closer to the target?
Loved this game as a kid...I also think the life bar was an improvement over the arcade's one-hit kills, as well as the various bonuses awarded for freeing the hostages.
Some serious skills there as this game is hard. What a crap ending though. Just Game Over. I’ve never completed the final level and glad now after that disappointment.

Let's be honest this game might not be graphically better than the arcade but it improved on the game play by giving the player the ability to use different weapons and the much needed health bar😮
God Damm, now Im happy, because I can see that I am not the only one with problem with this hole from hell! It´s almost jump. I only overcome using the magic to fly.
5: There's six different kinds of ninja magic (Art Of The Flying Squirrel, Metal Binding, Invisibility, Tornado, Lightning and Eight-Hands, to be precise). However, in the NES version, the Art Of The Flying Squirrel ninja magic makes you invisible AND invincible. The other 5 ninja magics do exactly as advertised on GameFAQs (or walkthroughs/let's plays).

One of the games I finished on my SMS. The Master System really was the graphical masterpiece, I remember I used to have conversations with Nintendo kids about graphics, (I owned both systems btw) and I thought SMS was better but they didnt... ah well, they was wrong :)
Now I’m glad I never passed this game as a kid cause I probably would’ve thrown my master system at my tv screen for putting so much effort just to get a fucked up “game over” screen like that as a ending
When this game came out i couldn't get my friends to go home because they didn't have a game console I was just fortunate to own one at that time miss my childhood era😭
3: In the SMS version, a projectile does 2 bars of damage and enemy contact does 1 bar of damage. In the NES version, both projectiles and enemy contact do only 1 bar of damage.
I used to get to the final boss with the chain. SO mush easier. I also would skip power ups past the knives. Unfortunately it's all memorization on which hostage has what... I'm afraid my memory isn't what it used to be in 1988... :)
There's a lot of differences between the SMS version and the NES version. 1: In the SMS version, there are FIVE different ranged weapons (slow/1 ninja star, faster/3 ninja stars, knives, bomb (the worst weapon in this game) and the missile launcher). There are also FOUR different close range weapons (punch/kick, sword, nunchaku and chain). In the NES version, there's only FOUR different ranged weapons (slow ninja star, faster ninja star, knife and the missile launcher) and there's only ONE close range weapon (the punch/kick).
cool game and among my favorites of all time, my only complained about the master system port is that it's missing most of the musical tracks which has been replaced solely with stage 2's track, it's a shame because stage 1 track is my personal favorite. at least the bonus stage has stage's 4 track but the original stage bogus track has also been omitted.
Wow the graphics are so much better on this version than the NES version I have always known and loved. It's pretty close the arcade version which is really quite an accomplishment!
I know most of these MS games are just watered-down ports of their arcade versions, but as a kid I still had a LOT of fun with these! I'm talking countless hours of 8-bit gaming🥳
9: The superjump is only available in certain parts of the later levels (in the SMS version). However, the superjump in the NES version is ALWAYS available, regardless of whatever part of the level you're at and you can shoot and superjump at the same time (unlike the SMS version).
I'm kinda impressed that Alex Kidd in Shinobi World is literally Alex Kidd im this game HAHAHA I didn't know this game until YT recommended me this long play
6: In the SMS version, you can ONLY have FOUR ninja magics at any give time in the inventory and you have to use the first one you got (by pressing 1+2). Also, they can be overridden by other ninja magics, should your inventory be full. In the NES version, you can have up to FIVE ninja magics (yes, there's still SIX different kinds of ninja magic) at any given time and you CAN select them manually (by pressing SELECT) and they CANNOT be overridden by other ninja magics, should your inventory be full (the method to activate the ninja magic is the same as the SMS version, by pressing A+B).
I played this game 1990!!! Back then I spent hours and hours to reach Masked Ninja. When I finally beated him I received "GAME OVER". I expected at least a credit roll or short story but no only "GAME OVER". So disappointed...
Haha, there's a giant influx of Shinobi vids, probably because of the NEW Shinobi for 3DS. Ya know who would be the Best for developing a Shinobi game? TREASURE. Man, they'd have us leaping all over the place with sprays of Explosions and Shurikens everywhere!
Such a great game. For any new SMS collectors stick with the original library with games like this, the Wonder Boy series, Alien Syndrome, Phantasy Star, Enduro Racer, ect. The SMS isnt made for those later Genesis ports that arent too good. But again the original library like this game is amazing.
I looked this up to get past the fucking Mandala boss, geez. I can get up to it flawlessly, with no deaths, completely powered up, and then I systematically lose each life trying to defeat the Mandala boss. Now I see the technique and will go try it tomorrow. BTW I'm playing on an actual master system and CRT tv and wow... this emulated version looks and sounds so pathetic compared to the real thing! A lot is lost in translation. Everything actually looks like it has less detail, and even the sound sounds weaker. We have a lot of effects to layer on top of emulation before we can get an authentic experience.
I had this game as a kid. One of my favorites. Mandará was tough. Lobster was a joke of a boss. There was one jump in the level before you face lobster that always gave me a hard time. I could get thru the game without dying but then that jump would kill me.
Yep, the second Lobster level had that ridiculously annoying jump onto that higher platform right at the end. I must have died and got game overs several times due to that bit. He either didn't jump far enough, or walked off the edge of the platform!
8: You remember stage 2-2 & stage 3-2 where you had to superjump up and down to get through the level in the SMS version? Well, in the NES version, you just go the same way as you did in all the other stages - right to left. Also, Stages 2-3, 4-2 & 4-3 in the NES version, Joe Musashi jumps higher than normal (high enough to be of significant help), which means, bye-bye frustrating jump in Stage 4-2.
Yeah I know that jump in 4-2. If you don't have that flying squirrel magic, instant death. Then you lose everything. I rarely made that jump when I was a kid and didn't know that magics were important.
I played this again on the master system last year and i was pleasantly surprised. When i was a kid i played it often on a Rom for Dreamcast. but then years later i had the arcade version on the xbox 360. so for years i played the Arcade version thinking it was superior.. but then i returned to the Master System version and its WAY better than the arcade version. Probably the only game in which the console version surpasses the Arcade version and the reason i like this one so much more is because the game play. sure the graphics and music aren't as good as the Arcade version but in the Master System version you have way more magic and way more weapons. i forgot that you can use nun chucks and chains and grenades in the master system version. it was so damn satisfying.
I remember when I was a kid and I asked my parents for a sega genesis for christmas they got me a sega master system instead with this game and safari hunt .....to be honest now that I think about it ...i ain't even mad at em this system was highly under rated
I remember as a kid it took me forever to beat this game. It wasn't until I had the katana for the final boss fight that I finally beat him. The chain and ball is just too slow to use against him. I was so pumped to finally beat this game after a full on year of mastering it only to be so disappointed in the "Game Over" ending. All that work and didn't even get final congrats message or anything.
True that! I agree! This was one of the best sounding Master System titles... Especially considering the time frame. And yeah, I'm not a fan of most of the FM but I have heard some Chiptune that made use of it and it was capable of much better than any game got.
7: The physics are different in the NES version (which CAN get you juggled to death if you're not too careful), as opposed to the SMS version, which is fine. Also, I think Joe Musashi moves a bit faster in the NES version, as opposed to the SMS version.
My Mom was a single parent like so many others worked hard to make a healthy, happy home for me.... I surely will never forget the day when she surprised me with this game..... ❤ you so very much Mom.

This is the 2nd system I owned as a kid. I sucked at video games back then. Lol
The Marilyn Monroe picture in the game made me Smile 😍🌹
What an amazing game. Just now I'm realize how similar it was to Shadow Dancer on the Genesis.
Master system 2 marco minha infância kkk

E até aquele futebol lixo kkk
11: The music and graphics are mediocre in the NES version, where as they're pretty good in the SMS version.
*SEGA game Sega machine!* 💡
3:06 - Spidey got rumbled on this one
It used to always crack me up when you rescue one of the kids and it looks like he's punting them up to the top right
I almost dont wanna watch this cause in my mind back then this game was so sophisticated. Way better than Ninja Gaiden
I only just noticed the music similarities between this and "Alex the Kidd in Shinobi World".... 30 or 20 years later.
eu nunca consegui passar desse terceiro boss maldito
Like the chopping noise, or sounds like chopping, when killing bad guys with the sword
The end is absolutely ridiculous!
You are wrong, but that’s OK.
@@jnnx the game play on the sms is far better than the arcade version there fore im right
I remember when I was a kid and I asked my parents for a sega genesis for christmas they got me a sega master system instead with this game and safari hunt .....to be honest now that I think about it ...i ain't even mad at em this system was highly under rated
Thanks! Been bugging me for YEARS ! lol prob ran out of space on the 8bit cart for an ending ¬_¬
One of those few games that was Waaay better on the SMS than tha arcade or any other port That's just how I feel ye ayayahah godlike better music tho
2: The Maximum number of lifebars is 16 (in the SMS version). The Maximum number of lifebars is ONLY 12, however (in the NES version).
I loved this game . I still have my cartridge to. I think segas minimalist soundtrack was better than the Arcade.
Best Game Ever for Sega Master 2
Ninja Game 1987
I remember as a kid it took me forever to beat this game. It wasn't until I had the katana for the final boss fight that I finally beat him. The chain and ball is just too slow to use against him. I was so pumped to finally beat this game after a full on year of mastering it only to be so disappointed in the "Game Over" ending. All that work and didn't even get final congrats message or anything.
Still a better ending than Super Mario Sunshine.
Que des beaux souvenirs.
I'm pleased you played with original master system sound, I detest the fm chip
True that! I agree! This was one of the best sounding Master System titles... Especially considering the time frame. And yeah, I'm not a fan of most of the FM but I have heard some Chiptune that made use of it and it was capable of much better than any game got.
Damn, core memory unlocked LOL
I was so pissed off as a kid when I finally beat this and saw that "ending."
7: The physics are different in the NES version (which CAN get you juggled to death if you're not too careful), as opposed to the SMS version, which is fine. Also, I think Joe Musashi moves a bit faster in the NES version, as opposed to the SMS version.
melhor jogo do master sistem
