Thanks for posting, never heard of her before. Was ordering records online and saw her songs of the western isles for sale which contains this track, was curious and after hearing this (listened twice because damn it's good) I ordered it.
This song was first recorded in 1953 from Mrs. Catherine MacCormick of Benbecula. I think this recording is from the LP "Craobh Nan Ubhal" which Temple Records produced in the 1970s. Lyrics: English Translation: Gur muladach sgith mi I am weary and desolate 'S mi leam fhin an tir aineoil Alone in a strange land Anns na h-eileine Diurach Among the islands of Jura 'S mor mo dhuil ri dhol thairis, hai o Great is my longing to cross over, hai o Anns na h-eileine Diurach Among the islands of Jura 'S mor mo dhuil ri dhol thairis Great is my longing to cross over Mi gun phiuthar gun brathair I am here without sister or brother Gun mhathair gun athair, hai o Without mother or father, hai o Mi gun phiuthar gun brathair I am here without sister or brother Gun mhathair gun athair Without mother or father Mi gun duine dha m'dhaoine I haven't one person of my kinsfolk Ris a faod mi mo ghearain, hai o To listen to my complaint, hai o Mi gun duine dha m'dhaoine I haven't one person of my kinsfolk Ris a faod mi mo ghearain To listen to my complaint Chaidh am bata thromh 'n chaolas The ship sailed through the narrows Bha mo ghaol oirre dh'fhearaibh, hai o He whom I love best of all men was on board, hai o Chaidh am bata thromh 'n chaolas The ship sailed through the narrows Bha mo ghaol oirre dh'fhearaibh He whom I love best of all men was on board Bha mo leannan 'ga stiuireadh My lover was steering her Lub ur a' chuil chlannaich, hai o Beguiling, gallant, of the curling hair, hai o Bha mo leannan 'ga stiuireadh My lover was steering her Lub ur a' chuil chlannaich Beguiling, gallant, of the curling hair Lub ur a' chuil chubhraidh Beguiling, gallant, of the fragrant hair 'S toil leam fhin do chaol mhala, hai o Your slender brown eye brows are a delight to me, hai o Lub ur a' chuil chubhraidh Beguiling, gallant, of the fragrant hair 'S toil leam fhin do chaol mhala Your slender brown eye brows are a delight to me Is na faighinn-sa m'ordugh If my dearest wish were granted Bu leat moran do dh'fhearann, hai o Wide would be your lands, hai o Is na faighinn-sa m'ordugh If my dearest wish were granted Bu leat moran do dh'fhearann Wide would be your lands Bu leat Muil' agus Ile Mull and Islay would be yours Cinntir' agus Arainn, hai o Kintyre and Arran, hai o Na hi bho ho hill o horo ho Na hi bho ho hill o horo ho Hill o na hi bho ho Hill o na hi bho ho Hi na hi ri ri dhiu o Hi na hi ri ri dhiu o Hi o na hi hoireann o ho Hi o na hi hoireann o ho Eileadh ho horo ho Eileadh ho horo ho

Can't understand a word and I am entranced by each and everyone one of them. I spent a few days in Barra once. I thought about knocking on her door but obviously didn't. Maybe I'll meet her in a shop, thought I, but I didn't.
Guth àlainn agus a lethid cha chluinn sinn a-rithist - fois shiorraidh d'a h-anam / A beautiful voice the likes of which we will not hear again - RIP.

Nice Gaelic 🎶☘
So beautiful. Presumably also recorded in the 1950s...

I think she retired to France, at least last I heard...
@@joegee6434 That's hard to believe, don't you think? Surely she'd have looked me up if she had come to France, n'est-ce pas?
@Allen Conway it was a while ago, but I was watching a documentary on her and she bought a house in France. Not sure if she's still there or not.
