2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre Review // Why It's Worth $500,000

- Toronto, we are here. The 2024 Rolls Royce Spectre ($495,000 starting in Canada, $422,750 in the US) is the very first EV to proudly wear the double R logo. In lieu of a silky smooth twin turbo V12, the Spectre has two electric motors making a silent 577 horsepower and 664 lb ft of torque. Befitting a true Rolls Royce, the Spectre is bespoke to the buyer and has numerous options to beautify both the interior and exterior with artistic designs. It also aims to provide a cabin that is effortless, comfortable and quiet.
But how has the transition to electric power affected the driver and their passengers' enjoyment of a Rolls Royce? Thomas and James are excited to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode! And then subscribe, silly.

Electrification suits Rolls more perfectly than any other brand. Don't know what took them so long.
They had to make sure I'll be as unreliable as possible.
They're a small company and they rely on BMW for the EV tech and other hardware.
Range. There’s nothing luxurious about having to stop every hour for 20 minutes
@@ruk2023-- range has been solved for a decade now
Maybe they wanted to make sure spontaneous combustion wasn't among its "features" except when it finds a little salt water. Is hurricane season over yet?
The rock test was the most impressive luxury car test I've ever seen. Wow
Yeah that was nuts! That car would completely drown out the noise of a busy tunnel full of loud old dump trucks.
Wish they would do it for all luxury car testing from now on
@@fangyideng3131 I can't vouch for others but the A8 is very good at that. I don't think its going to beat the RR, but definitely on the motorway, you can have a conversation very little to no noise of passing traffic. I also miss the air suspension, you just glide over everything. Exquisite!
James hated every minute 😂
I prefer going to the pub getting pissed smoking pot snorting cocaine with three mates and the dog in my Honda Civic ,,, having a fist fight pooing on the bonnets of expensive cars on Main Street picking up some girls and saving $499,500 for next weekend i bet i had more fun than you
I hope you don’t mind me saying this, but you guys have absolutely found your rhythm this past year or so. You two are great and the quality of the production keeps getting better and better. Thanks so much for this great content.
zzz
How dare you. I'm sure they'll mind you saying that.
Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?
@@Shadow-In-The-East I know you're being factitious, but I didn't want to imply that they DIDN'T have their rhythm prior to this. Rather, that they've steadily improved over the years. I'm just trying to be polite, which as other people like yourself have pointed out, is silly. Especially in a TH-cam comment section. So...sorry?
You mean contraceptively@@Shadow-In-The-East
Wasn’t expecting this format of video but it was great. Really shows that the videos have potential for a possible Netflix or streaming platform show.
I love how comically high quality the car is, its like it allows you to exist in another realm able to view and travel from perfect comfort.
It's such a ridiculous vehicle with such a ridiculous price that it goes from cool, to stupid, and back to cool again. Totally other-worldly. Harping on it for being set at 500k would be like groaning about how super yachts are too expensive. If you have to look at the price tag before buying, it isn't yours to buy.
@@96bmb My thoughts exactly. You do not buy this car because you need something to get around town, you buy it because money is no object and it's a powerful status symbol.
You Sound like a Rolls Royce yourself my good sir 😁😁😁
"It allows you to exist in another realm." Believe that's their spicific intent.
There's other car companies... & Then there's us...
Jay Leno's catchphrase "It looks like something you'd run over poor people with" (during the Depression) never goes out of style.
Years ago, I worked with a gentleman who has ended up testing this very model early in its development cycle. You may find this hard to believe, but the original prototypes were even quieter: they were virtually perfect noise isolation chambers...and they were making drivers and passengers ill. Turns out, the near total lack of noise combined with visual perception of movement and the wonders of our inner ear was causing nausea in a "substantial" proportion of people in the vehicle (I believe it was not most people, but definitely at least 1 in 5)". RR had to re-introduce a little bit of extra sound in both audible and sub audible frequencies to address the problem.
If it's true its amazing
I imagine that the floaty suspension probably adds to that sickness, mixed in with the speed of an electric car that probably wasn’t dialed in all the way, would make an almost flying sensation on the road with no noise. Sounds freaky, in the video Thomas even states, “It’s unnerving”.
Edit: timestamp for Thomas’ quote, 4:57
I believe that. I've been on some quiet subways that gently jostle around, and it made me a bit nauseous every time.
There's such thing as too much quiet, hm.
Didn’t this happen during the eqs development as well?
I can’t help but be amazed at the consistent improvement that this channel sees with each new video. Bravo, team.
These videos keep getting better.

This format transcends the realm of reviews. Not only was it funny, insightful and stunning but it had this really warm vibe as if everyone's sitting around the campfire and sharing stories. Really loved it and hope you guys can make more of these.
I bet the battery is made from the very same components EVERY other EV maker uses.
Love the car ... but the technology that drives it is a con.

i loved the style of this vid, really fitting for most Rolls drivers. the camera shots of the city and stuff were magnificent too, it'd be sick to see more cars tested in this way, luxury or not. also gave me a mini tour of Toronto cos i never actually went to the city itself, only niagara
The Thomas's Furniture Analogy is Perfect
James calling them "Streetcars" was the final step to him becoming fully Canadian. One of us! One of us! One of us!
I grew up in New Orleans and they call them streetcars there too haha
@@midamulti-tool1540lol yeah me too, I thought that was regular. I guess other people say trams right? And yeah our roads are definitely worse. There’s pot holes that will knock your transmission out 😂
@@johncena-hq1ti LOL, RIGHT!! gave me a laugh when he started talking about how Toronto had the worst roads and they showed the cutest little cracks and patches. New Orleans barely HAS roads in some places 😂
@@midamulti-tool1540 yeah that wasn’t shit compared to some cities. I’ve seen 6-10in deep potholes in Jersey and NOLA😂
@@johncena-hq1ti what makes our roads so bad is the consistency of it. I've yet to see a single stretch downtown that stays smooth or in one piece for more than a year.
Thank you for actually showing us how quiet it really is, no other reviewers actually let you experience the silence like that.
The car looks like BMW M3 E92 on the back end.
They made it so quiet a few generations ago they had to take out some isolation because the driver was getting sick getting no soundfeedback anymore!
I would have preferred a delta dB-figure actually. I didn't find it that quiet window closed, my car seems similiar ...
ok
I'd say it's actually dangerous not be able to hear what is going on around you.
This was so well put together, it’s excellent!! LOVE it!!!🙌🏾
These guys just exhude joy in these reviews. Easily the most fun car channel on TH-cam.
You guys are the Roll Royce of car reviews. Effortless chemistry and maximum output. Throttle House team great job!
I'm glad this comment is near the top; it deserves it. Throttle House has easily become my favorite car review program. It really gives me the vibe of my peers having a go at some cars, instead of these big institutions with access to basically everything. The chemistry between them is so good, and I'm always smiling the whole way through. Every time I open TH-cam and see a new TH video I get so excited.
@@apaliousaf I get excited as well when I see a notification, and can't help but smile when they are reviewing the car and cracking jokes. They are Golden !

@@AmirGTR Very Cool 😎
amen to that, totally agree
I love Toronto, but I refuse to believe they managed to film a whole day driving downtown without getting caught in horrific traffic
WAS THINKING EXACTLY THE SAME THING
Don Valley Parking Lot represent. Note how they were driving South and ambled around all that construction instead. Smart bunch this!
lol its called good editing
Or attacked by some homeless guy
I'd like to think they filmed on a Sunday morning. They went under the TTC subway bridge and no trains that early on a Sunday morning.
I got to drive a spectre for a moment as I pulled it away for a rich guy getting onto his private jet. The quietness was also the first thing I noticed, almost muted the sound of an APU just a few meters away. Quite an experience and I have never driven a car as large as that. Got to drive it and guy gave me a hundred bucks on top of it😂
Fantastic review guys! The videography, music, your easy-going presenting style. And the Spectre is a work of art/design/tech. A masterpiece. Great work 🎉🙏🏼
The noise isolation is insane.. almost eerie feeling 😮
Yeah not sure if I want that level of isolation. Horns or sirens from a distance indicating some level of danger is coming and you may miss it due to the isolation.
@@reemobrooklyn3557you’ll hear horns.
Apparently, I believe new RR ghost was so quiet that they actually reduced the noise isolation. It was so quiet that it caused disorientation.
Yeah I like to keep a window cracked to hear the outside world better!
How quickly James got out that seat after Thomas told him the price was the best part for me. Lmao

The last thing that mattered in a Rolls was the engine. It's not like you ever heard the v12 of felt the vibration and no owner ever opened the hood.
@@Aka9ami Yea the outside of the car definitely does a lot of the boasting for you.
Went from a bespoke handcrafted V12 to an electric engine that probably shares parts with a Kia…. Lots of cope here.
that's WHY it had a v12.. smoothest motor
@@nick9602RR is owned by bmw, so I’d suspect its largely made of the same motors and batteries found in the i7
Exactly. They literally spend decades to get their v12s smooth enough to match the comfort of the interior. EV is the natural propulsion for high end luxury. Vibration free, nearly inaudible. That's exactly what they strived for their v12s to be (and yes, they built masterpieces of ice engines). Rolls Royce was never about boasting about the engine or horsepower. hence they never released those figure and famously said it "has enough". This electric motor simply completes that car.
from v12 to 12v 💀

As someone living in munich i saw the spectre atleast 5 times and i must say it has incredible presence everytime, short of only maybe the phantom
Where in Marienplatz or Bayrischer Hof ?
My sister lives in Munich and she tells me those places there are where the rich people live !
Great car but , um, it costs more than my house !
Promenadeplatz is a great guess.
You not only see these cars because of the rich people tho, but because munich is the BMW headquarter and these are essentially insanely modified i7s, so a lot of testing is done here in Bavaria :)
@@alpenjodel24 That´s what I´m saying Promenadeplatz is perfect for testing these things.

Normally I wouldn't be interested in watching a video on an EV Rolls, but this was presented and delivered outstandingly. A huge testament as to just how good a channel TH is!

Thank you for the video it's very informative
The color on this particular car is absolutely spectacularly beautiful. Love it.
I really want to emphasize the quality of production of this video. You can feel the effort and attention to detail in the making as if the Rolls Royce sort of motivated to put as much love into making this movie as they put into the car. I especially liked the ending, made the review resonate for a bit longer. Thanks for this, really appreciate this and made me follow your channel.

What a fantastic video, such high production quality
"Tarmacular adversity" - I love it!
I actually don't mind the LEDs in the doors. The way other brands put "mood lighting" all over the cabin is for me much more tacky than what RR did with their stars in doors. I personally wouldn't spec them, but hey, to each their own, I guess.

The quality of these videos just keeps going up and up! Loved the video. You all should do more videos in Toronto. It was fun seeing the car drive in different environments.
As a Torontonian, I loved seeing the big Rolls perform in our somewhat broken city. I also liked that you ventured over The Don into the East End, close to my beloved Leslieville, and then ripped up the Bayview Extension! I think this is my favorite video I’ve ever seen on this channel.
Great work you guys did on the video!
I saw a Spector at this year Goodwood festival of speed. I was at a famous corner on the hill climb and witnessed the Spector cock its wearside wheel. This car was poised and effortless and so so fast. It seemed to bend the law of Physics with so much mass. You just hear a whoosh of air trailing behind and pushed to the side. Yes I expect the driver was using his little pinkie.. That sound test was insane.. A great way of demonstrations the sound proofing. Great vid chaps. Bravo

Wonderful work (as usual), gents. Great stuff. Wholeheartedly agree with the roofliner lights. Gives prom date limo vibes. The paint color is pretty hideous, too. Otherwise, what a breathtaking vehicle.
This would be a dream to daily. One of the few cars I want it to be electric. It perfectly suites Rolls Royce. I also agree that the V12 didn’t sound that great
Came for the intro, staying for the review.
You can get places in a $5k Ford Focus, or even with a $3 bus pass, but this makes the trip so much more enjoyable. If you have enough $, trading $ for something that you enjoy is always worth it.
Canada! You just gotta love the place and the people. Perfect place to showcase a Roller.
These two guys are Canadians almost all of their videos are filmed in Canada
Amazing car and great review. I find that rock band sound test to be unbelieveable....No way a piece of glass can completly block that much noise but somehow it looks real...
Pretty sure it’s not just one piece of glass
A simple piece of glass can't, but sound can't travel through a vacuum, so if there's a vacuum in double glazing, that should do the trick (although I don't actually know if they do that).
It’s double glazed but also there is a lot of noise insulation in the door too
The goofiness of the review is exactly how most car nerds I know would look at a product like this. Absolutely love it, keep up the great work! (Said this 2 years ago, so clearly you have been lol)
I don't care for nearly any car reviewers out there. Cheesy, annoying, lack of information comes to mind. I'm picky, and I KNOW my cars. Eat, sleep and breathe them. This channel and you gentlemen, are quite baffling. I absolutely love every part. Keep going, fellas.
