That's not hyperbole...you didn't have a big network to finance a world-class car show, and yet here you are not just making top quality videos, but you have the banter and commentary that made Top Gear so great. i don't really get it. why is it such an issue when a tradional sportscar manufacturer creates a non-sportscar? i guess it kinda takes away some meaning or value from what a porsche or a lotus is, but it doesn't take anything away from all the other sportscar that they have put out or will put out in the future.

I can't think of anything further from "simplify and add lightness" than an electric luxury "hyper" suv. Hopefully this exists so they can use the sales to prop up the cars they want to make, and not because some investor got greedy and decided it was time to cannibalize the brand for a big payout.
Guess loads of Lotus and/or Volvo fanboys down-voted my comment pointing out that they are both Chinese owned companies now, and all their EV only models are built in China based on Chinese designed & engineered platforms. Truth hurts I guess.

I test drove it back in China, it is extremely well balanced, and handles better than some of the smaller and lighter competitors, without any loss of the comfort that people expect out of a luxury family SUV. The spirit of down sizing and adding lightness still holds true in that particular manner. After all, some start up can use the best possible parts for suspension and still mess up the tuning due to simply lack of engineers who understand motor sports. (The one I test drove back in Shanghai was tri-motor, and a 4 seater) It is a phenomenal car, in a sense that if you have some background knowledge about various brands and actually love driving; you feel the story flow through your blood when you floor it and carve it hard down a race track.
Y'all's review of the GT350 helped me to decide with absolute confidence to get one a few years ago when you did the M2 shootout. When I was getting a Volvo, at the dealership our sales guy had an M2, and we swapped keys and went for a drive in eachothers cars! It was a hoot, but all of the other employees were saying my Orange Fury Gt350 was "the cool car" compared to his Teal M2 competition. I agree to this day! Thanks for making these hilarious and fun car videos!

Love your guys work and as a Brit think the humour is on par with comedy required to keep us from getting to move away from the show. One thing you should closely look into and possibly revisit about the Lotus is the shocking fact that the range is actually very bad to what it calms. I’m here in Hangzhou China and had the car to test for 2 weeks and found the figures displayed within the GUI were all over the place and consistently jumped around. So range anxiety its a major factor and surprised me considering the high price of the car. Lotus really needs to address this is as a plethora of cheaper cars give me true range figures when using the car on a daily drive. It’s not a small issue and buyers should be aware and not be swayed by the many other plus points that the car delivers but the GUi is absolutely shocking and needs an updated now, as you’re paying so much money for an elite SUV. Keep going guys you’re hilarious and I love your channel, a comment from you would be appreciated.

@@motorista_ramon not sure I'm following here? The competition has vehicle's with superior perf sure(model X plaid since late 2021. They have luxurious 2 and 3 row ev suvs and even sporty ones sure. But this is definetely one for the premium ev segment and that lotus badge(despite geely&China ownership plus tech. Still means something to some people. I mean people didn't stop buying jags, Porsches n lambos when Ford owned jaguar, vag bought out Porsche and lambo right. Imo this will sell quite well for lotus/geely. I bet just 3-5,000 units sold annually would make them very happy!
Well - that’s my first time I have ever taken the time to watch an EV review in my life. You were informative and entertaining as usual and you made it bearable. I have a deposit on an Emira as well but no interest in the EV - if I had the $190k it would not be spent on an EV - but a car of my dreams instead - probably used. I can only hope an alternate green technology that is more interesting and lighter comes along very soon. Thanks guys.

Also, I LOVE that you guys kept the glitch in the screen when Thomas was trying to turn on the fog mode. I can only imagine that its due to the lotus connect OS is built on Android, Great job guys!
Okay I have to say you guy are in my top 4 favorite channels. The other 3 are Hoovies Garage, Naugtistyles and Diane, can't remember her last name, but she's from Ireland. All of you guys generally make me happy when I'm watching. With that said, no matter how amazing this Lotus SUV I will never buy one just for the one fact it is made in China. Just keeping it 💯.

Love you guys. I saw this on a 'Harrys Garage' video and whilst I was really interested in seeing it, on UK roads it is simply too big I feel. EV's need big platforms to fit all the batteries and I think this is definitely the largest. I love the look of it though.
there are lots of trade vans on UK roads.. is it bigger than those? My 90s Toyota estima just died which was a great size, it was narrower than most cars but still had loads of room, though it would just roll over if you put fast electric motors in it. Would be nice to see more variation with these new electric cars though.
@@John15293 if everyone in the uk had cars that were American sized there would be some issues. But lots of vans are well over 2m wide and they do 'fit' on the road well enough. I think the issue in the uk is more that people don't drive huge distances or really need a huge car for daily driving. In London it's far preferable and faster to just cycle everywhere. It will be interesting to see what happens if cars keep getting bigger and bigger here. Cars that can change size like those r.v's could be an option
As a software developer I don’t understand how these big companies (Lotus, Ferrari, etc) struggle with responsive screens. It’s really not difficult, or expensive.
I read on Wikipedia that Lotus Tech, the division that is focused on EVs only, had some design help from Alpine, part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. Couldn't find any evidence of that elsewhere, though. A relationship with Alpine would be really cool! Speaking of which, I'd love to see the TH team review the Alpine A110 (and compare it to your ND MX-5). I know it would mean going overseas. We're finally getting them here in NZ but the importer wants an enormous amount of local pesos for one, sight unseen.

It makes economically sense to sell an electric SUV, it still feels wrong. Let's hope a lot of rich guys buy this car so Lotus can afford to keep building light and nimble cars in the future 🙏

They have luxurious 2 and 3 row ev suvs and even sporty ones sure.
But this is definetely one for the premium ev segment and that lotus badge(despite geely&China ownership plus tech. Still means something to some people. I mean people didn't stop buying jags, Porsches n lambos when Ford owned jaguar, vag bought out Porsche and lambo right.
Imo this will sell quite well for lotus/geely. I bet just 3-5,000 units sold annually would make them very happy!

Well - that’s my first time I have ever taken the time to watch an EV review in my life. You were informative and entertaining as usual and you made it bearable. I have a deposit on an Emira as well but no interest in the EV - if I had the $190k it would not be spent on an EV - but a car of my dreams instead - probably used. I can only hope an alternate green technology that is more interesting and lighter comes along very soon. Thanks guys.

Also, I LOVE that you guys kept the glitch in the screen when Thomas was trying to turn on the fog mode. I can only imagine that its due to the lotus connect OS is built on Android, Great job guys!
Okay I have to say you guy are in my top 4 favorite channels. The other 3 are Hoovies Garage, Naugtistyles and Diane, can't remember her last name, but she's from Ireland. All of you guys generally make me happy when I'm watching.

Love you guys. I saw this on a 'Harrys Garage' video and whilst I was really interested in seeing it, on UK roads it is simply too big I feel. EV's need big platforms to fit all the batteries and I think this is definitely the largest. I love the look of it though.
there are lots of trade vans on UK roads.. is it bigger than those? My 90s Toyota estima just died which was a great size, it was narrower than most cars but still had loads of room, though it would just roll over if you put fast electric motors in it. Would be nice to see more variation with these new electric cars though.

@@John15293 if everyone in the uk had cars that were American sized there would be some issues. But lots of vans are well over 2m wide and they do 'fit' on the road well enough. I think the issue in the uk is more that people don't drive huge distances or really need a huge car for daily driving. In London it's far preferable and faster to just cycle everywhere. It will be interesting to see what happens if cars keep getting bigger and bigger here. Cars that can change size like those r.v's could be an option

As a software developer I don’t understand how these big companies (Lotus, Ferrari, etc) struggle with responsive screens. It’s really not difficult, or expensive.
Corporate priorities, with an emphasis on 'features' not usability. As a consultant, this is something I experience on far too many projects.

I read on Wikipedia that Lotus Tech, the division that is focused on EVs only, had some design help from Alpine, part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. Couldn't find any evidence of that elsewhere, though. A relationship with Alpine would be really cool!
Speaking of which, I'd love to see the TH team review the Alpine A110 (and compare it to your ND MX-5). I know it would mean going overseas. We're finally getting them here in NZ but the importer wants an enormous amount of local pesos for one, sight unseen.

The relationship with Alpine was proposed, but didn't go anywhere. Lotus is owned by a Chinese company and this is a rebadged one of their cars
This car is 100% designed and built in China - it has nothing to do with either Alpine, nor with Lotus Norfolk.
