When my husband and I watched Newhart on Monday nights our preschooler would sneak out of her room and watch. We’d hear her giggling but pretended not to notice. Sweet memories.

As a pre teen, teen I remember this series: Mon 900pm 930pm for several years. After season 4, 5, I think CBS moved it to Tue or Wed. Dick's progression from how to book author to hotel inn owner to local TV talk show host is funny. 📺

Bob did great physical comedy, the bang, bang you're dead, Jerry Lewis stunt on the staircase is hysterical. And these were the years all the greats knew each other, participated in each other's work. It's an era we won't come by easily again. I grew up to this, brings back such wonderful memories.

Newhart was/is by far my favorite TV show ever. I watched it faithfully from junior high until it ended during my sophmore year in college. Just hearing the theme music takes me right back to my teens. It was just a wonderfully funny, wholesome, All-American TV show.

That is one show I look back on and say they don't make them like they used to. The show from start to finish was a never miss for me. The comedy was timeless. The actors came and went over time without damage to the show and no one seemed to take over the show. Most of all I liked the way it ended. The way MASH ended was OK but I was more sad then anything. The way Newhart ended I laughed for days about it.

It boggles my mind that this show ended more than 34 years ago. It feels like just a few years have gone by. But Julia Duffy is the only surviving member of the hotel’s owners/staff, which also shocks and saddens me. This show was a true ensemble comedy, with every member of the ensemble being brilliant and truly the best there was.

Poor Tom Poston, in the takes where Bob Newhart screws up and Tom Doesn't, Director Dick Martin always comes over to Tom to address him and the scene screw up instead of Dick being a man and actually going over and saying something to the star Newhart who actually was the one who flubbed his lines.

9:00 Bob demonstrates how he would keep his lines hidden around the set.
