It really does

But would.

Eury’s little smile when Ody tells him to light the torches… he sees it as a sign of trust and forgiveness… IM SO SICK
😭😭😭
Omg I wonder if Odysseus really wanted to offer Eury to the Scylla
@@11icelordAccording to the songwriter Ody did plan on sacrificing him. In the concept animatic (which Jorge usually sends the main thematics he wants the animators to focus on) during one of his live streams. Eury specifically drops the torch in panic as he realizes the torches are the targets, somebody else picks up the torch and before Eury can warn them of the danger that crewmate is eaten. That said, the idea that Eury was originally chosen as a sacrifice was the intent. :’D
Man. I can't blame either side.
I get he's mad that he opened the bag.
But of course once his crew puts it together that ody just choice to sacrifice 6 men theyd lose their faith in him, who knows how many more sacrifices he will make to get home.
Of course killing the cattle and opening the bag were both awful choices too....
@@elski5958 So was telling the Cyclops his name (or not killing him). In Epic, many characters make mistakes they couldn’t truly foresee the consequences to, with some nuanced exceptions like the bag (which I think is why Eury’s apology is the first REAL apology we actually hear in the whole musical imo, he understood that even if he didn’t truly understand the gravity of his choice, he made a betrayal that cost many of the crew their lives).
That said it becomes this tipping scale of which do you interpret to be worse: The unintentional chained reaction of killing over 500 of your crew (and technically hiding the fact it was your fault over the course of roughly two years) or the intentional killing of 6 of the now drastically reduced crew in exchange for your own freedoms and goals.
in the original odyssey, Scylla always takes six lives and Odysseus knows this fact, in this he has six people light torches so scylla knows who is being taken as they are offered. Beautiful.
Okay, I don't mean to bother, but is it just me, or does it look like Scylla is floating out of Charybdis (the whirlpool) before she attacks...like they teamed up to scare the crew even more
@@YaBoiGR1Mcould be, haha, mythology wise I don’t think they ever make monsters team up often (Scylla and Charybdis are an odd duo) but I believe that logically they must share some sort of bond if they hunt people together instead of one another
I thought it was because she only has 6 heads
@plaguedoctor2882 They don't intentionally team up. They might take advantage of each other and just go with the benefits. Who knows haha
Charybdis and Scylla lurk in a narrow strait. If sailors only had that one way they could take, they had to choose. Charybdis lived under the water surface and sucked in water 3 times a day or so. Every Ship would be completely lost. It is said that not even Poseidon could have helped them. Scylla lived above the water in a lair and sacrifices had to be made to her if anyone wanted to pass her. So sailors had to be knowledgeable and educated about both to choose wise. Anyway, every monster then had their food when sailors wanted to avoid the other one while thinking they would have better chances with that or the other.
Does it make sense? Not a native speaker here 🫡
@@fleischsalat318Makes perfect sense honestly.
2:19 EURYLOCHUS GIVING HIS TORCH TO SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE HE'S TRYING TO SAVE ANOTHER PERSON, I AM SUFFERING

@@novemberfriday THATS THE REASON HE’S STILL ALIVE IM _SCREAMING_
And I searched for that part. Thank you for pointing it out. I almost got a little disappointed not having it in here when it was in the official livestream. But I'm dumb and too slow to catch up 🤦🏼♀️🌶🫡
Eurlycous was supposed to die 😮
It would have been better if he had died here. Odysseus was literally giving him an honorable death, which is very fucking important in Greek Culture. The way he died later condemned his soul to punishment in Hades, as someone who personally offended the gods and died by divine intervention.
The parallels between Scylla's and Odysseus' eyes is everything to me. They are so different in appearance but that "glint" in their eyes reveals the truth. That glint of survival, of being a monster. It is something they share and she recognises. It was no mistake she went over him for the sacrifice with the torch. She knew he was a monster too.
Yk what makes this better? In the “canon” of Greek mythology, Scylla doesn’t attack other monsters. She’s sentient enough to know the difference between say, a human and a siren. Which does she not attack? Sirens. That’s because all monsters in some way or form in Greek mythology are *related.*
In a twisted way, you could see this as Scylla welcoming a new sibling. A new addition to the “family”
@@emerson4140 por fin, alguien que recuerda ese dato, ya muchos se preguntaban por qué no utilizó a las sirenas.
@@emerson4140That adds a whole other layer of her saying they were the same and him agreeing with it
@@emerson4140what makes it even better is the fact that Odysseus really is related to Scylla since he is the Grandson of Hermes😂 (so if we stretch things they are indeed Family)
@@emerson4140 As a writer im going to use this great fact youve reminded me of and use it in my book when I get stuck and have writers block. @@WitchingofSpace i think he was hoping he wouldn't HAVE to
because Ody beleives without Eurlyocous none of the other crew members would really stand against him

Exactly, he does care about his crew. It’s just that this was the only thing, he could think to do.
To Ody, it was either this or deal with Poseidon. This wasn’t what he wanted, but he also knew there was no other choice.

I was like what are you talking about ohhhhhhh 6 torches and the six heads okay I get it now I thought it was weird he asked for specifically six torches
It wasn't wrong, exactly. It was the best of two very bad choices. The *other* way was near a giant whirlpool monster (Charybdis) that would have destroyed the entire ship and all the crew. Sacrificing 6 men was the the lesser of two evils.
@@cleanbeanArt you can't exactly defend him with later he sacrifices the whole crew like next song xd

Ngl his crews are kinda dumbasses that are the reason as to why they're going on this long ass detour
I really love how you despicted Eurylochus in this animatic, he looks like he truly feels guilty about opening the wing bag and is worried about Ody's reaction to his confession, most animatics i've seen make Eurylochus too stoick in that part for my taste, here he really looks like he is sorry. The understanding and kind smile Odysseus gives him, just makes his realisation at the end more mortifying.
And your desing of Scylla is a 10/10, love it, she is so pretty, yet scary at the same time.
the thing is, I am pretty sure that Ody wanted Eurylochus to hold one of the torches

the way eurylochus’ eyes lit up when ody asked him to light up the torches because he took it as a sign that he still trusted him and that he forgave him … in fact the emotions portrayed by eurylochus as a whole were amazing i think it’s the first animatic where he and odysseus seem so human and it made me empathise so much, my heart is broken knowing what comes next 🥹
And when he says 'captain? Something- approaches' not yet knowing what's about to happen
The Devil works hard but Epic Animators work harder IT'S BEEN A WEEK HOW????
Are you complaining? Cause I ain't.
I love the fact that it's been a week and the EPIC community is already pumping out animatics. ❤❤
Some of the animators got to see the thunder saga early. Some of them worked with Jay to create animations for the livestream, Ximena included.
Exactly!
Epic fans are just built different
Scylla was made a monster by Circe, because they loved the same dude. Tricked, she was made into something terrible by someone with more power over her. I love Jorge really leaning into to the thematic subtext of Love for another twisting someone into a Man-killer.
Cough cough Penelope
Yes! And the subtextual references to Scylla's own betrayal and transformation are another brilliant touch. "Give up your honor and faith / Live up your life as a wraith / Die in the blood where you bathe" is a reference to her own unwilling transformation into a monster in the bathing pool, which she eventually embraced, like Odysseus.
this must be the epic version of the myth, i swear i read something else as the actual myth....still REALLY cool
No Scylla didn't love the man, but Circe did and out of jealousy she turn Scylla to a monster. Btw the man loved Scylla.. (I forgot the God's name)
@@hi_pleb at least in the original myth, Scylla was an ex-lover of Poseidon, but i dont remember the specific myth since i only read it in passing
Honestly, I think this is my favorite animatic because of Ody’s reaction to Eurylochus’ confession. It feels more realistic that he wouldn’t LOOK betrayed. Like he already knew. And it’s scary with no reaction than when he’s visibly betrayed.
Yeah, in a way it hits harder
Holy moly was it scary
And poor sweet Eury, he was so happy when Odysseus gave him an order😢

Ooh, I love the implication that Odysseus already knew that it was Eurylochus! My personal interpretation is that that is also the reason why he didn't want to hear him out in Puppeteer.
Another great animatic!
I believe he wanted to stay in denial, that it would be easier if he kept eurylochus from telling him...
First one Ive seen where Ody looks so concerned and guilty! Most make him looked tired and deterimed but this one! I felt that anguish!
Eurylochus' little smile when he thinks things are back to the normal dynamic 😭
Also, got to love monster heads with a sense of musical timing in their entrances!
SCYLLA LOOKS SO PRETTY YET TERRIFYING

Hear me out-
Eurylochus: I opened the bag.
Odysseus: *internally* god i knew that. I just wished he hadnt said it.
Odysseus: Eurylochus, light up 6 torches...
OH MY GOD!! the other men on the ship being terrified and traumatized after seeing the six men get eaten, THE HAPPY LOOK ON EURYLOCHUS'S FACE WHEN ODYSSEUS GIVES HIM HIS TASK AND THE LOOK OF HORROR AS HE REALIZES WHAT HES DONE, ODYSSEUS'S GUILT!??!?!?
FINALLY Someone who does odysseus' reaction to eurylocus' confession the right way. Yeah, he's upset by it, but it's way in the past. Right now, what would really trouble his mind is what's about to happen.
Side note I always viewed Scylla's song as they enter the lair to be sung directly at odysseus, even though it mirrors eurylochus
Another side note being that he actually means row for your lives. Other animatics have him barely reacting. As though resolve to do a thing will take away the inherent fear and uncomfortableness and shame in the moment.
It mirrors, Odysseus’s descent into becoming a monster. Because a monster doesn’t feel anything beyond the disregard of life and at this moment, this was him, disregarding the lives that he just sacrificed in order to push forward. However he sees the reality of it in the form of hearing their screams. And feels absolutely haunted by this decision, that he’s made.
I like to believe Ody forgave Eurylochus, mostly because he was about to sacrifice him, but forgave him either way.
Yes! Her whole song is about how Odysseus and herself are the same. Unwillingly transformed into monsters ("give up your honor and faith, live up your life as a wraith, die in the blood where you bathe") but willingly embracing their nature to survive.
The humanity still shown in Ody is so sad bro 😭
Thing is, its worth nothing, cause in the end he will always chose himself. His mercy only ever hurts cause he cant the hell commit, the mome t he sees the need for death, he becomes heartless and needlessly cruel... Like wtd with the sirens, killing them fair, but cutting their tails of and letting them slowly drown... Really damned mercyful. His goodness was always disingenuous poseidon has a massiv point there, he gives him an out with an appology, whatever it was real or not, we will nwver know for odysseus is way to self righteous to really be sorey and he says a lot of stuff, but non of it was an appology....
So he feels bad for sacrificing the men , but that saves literally no one, just makes it worse for everyone. Mercy hasa cost and what odysseus does has the most cost, cause he just cant commit to either leading again and again to death and misery for everyone
@@SingingSealRianaHe changed after "monster"
The way Odysseus and Scylla mirrored eachothers looks on "We are the same you and I" ,,,, yeah you cooked here
I love how when Eury reveals to Ody that he was the one who opened the windbag, it isn’t just Ody that feels betrayed in your animatic, it’s also the crew.
Eury fr screwed not only his Captain and King, but the other men as well. (I love Eury but omg 😔)
I actually always headcanoned that the entire crew knew about Eurylochus's secret, but nobody had the courage to tell Odysseus. Idk why, it just makes me sadder.
Considering Scylla sings "Leaving THEM feeling betrayed" this interpretation makes a lot more sense, but still, I like my headcanon
@@yay29823 Oh your headcanon is awesome though!
Oh- I took it as they also had guilt in it so they felt just as guilty as Eury-
@@ProblematicKG Ohh I can also see that! To be fair that also makes sense.
@@yay29823 I actually don't think it was Eurylochus that Scylla was talking about. Scylla always takes 6 men, most likely not knowing what's about to happen like in the animatic. It was Eurylochus who betrayed Odysseus. But it was Odysseus who betrayed the crew. He who betrayed Them.
I love this version of Odysseus. His empathy to still smile at Eurylochus even though it must've been hard to forgive his trusted friend for being the reason they all aren't home (besides Poseidon hunting Odysseus down). I also like how seven of the men (three visibly showing guilt the other four in the background as Ody walks passed them) are the exact ones who are killed. The foreshadowing is so subtle but genius. Also Odysseus' face during the slaughter is chefs kiss. Love how you still show his humane side instead of his aloof and deranged side 😢💙

When scylla went to bathe, she turned into THAT thing. Meaning Circe is responsible for her current physical state and probably mental state aswell.
@@KrystianZieba-kc8tx yep. to me, the lines, "leaving you feeling betrayed" towards the beginning and "die in the blood where you bathe" at the end are clear references to her own transformation and betrayal by circe

1:20 that small frame of Eurylochus being happy to follow orders thinking he could make amends by following just broke me dude 😭

1:55 THE WAY YOU GAVE HIM THE WHITE PUPILS SHOWING THE PARALLELS BETWEEN THEM I AM FERAL
Eurylochus’s moment of realisation hit so hard, like they were trying their best to keep their relationship alight in this song and animatic but when Eury realises what Odysseus has done his face completely drops. I love this so much 😭😭
I absolutely LOVE the expressions of all the characters in this animatic, even the guys rowing the boat when Eury confessed! Looks of guilt, not being able to look at Odysseus in the eye when he walks past them because they absolutely knew what Eury did but they didn't tell on him. (goes to show where most of the loyalty lies from the soldiers).
1:21 GOD that smile, he really thought that Ody had forgiven him after all...
2:46 I AM KICKING AND SCREAMING- I LOVE this interpretation of this line! I originally saw it as an acknowledgment of him monstrous side not a realization. But you showing more of his guilt makes it hit in a very different but still very satisfying way
0:35 the eye twitch!! Ahhh, such detail!! It shows that he really knows! Odysseus just doesn't want to bring it up considering that he just wants to go straight home but Eurylochus just have to bring it up!😫

1:42 THIS FRAME. THIS FRAME JUST H U R T S MY S O U L
He knew the consequences, I love the little details you have given like at 2:19 you see Eurylochus quickly, handing over the torch to somebody else to save the guy that’s falling into the mouth of the monster, and during all those screams Odysseus slowly feeling guilty and covering his ears of the people that are screaming, and at the end when they get out of the cave Eurylochus’ eyes as he realizes that Odysseus just sacrificed, six men with the torches that were lit up, and the eye glowing showing that they are literally the same, just trying their best to survive, even if it means becoming a monster to your own crew
2:53 also I love how she’s petting one of the monsters at the end right there!!! AHHH and your design for her is amazing
Eurylochus' smile when Odysseus tells him to light up the torches makes me think he thought 'Oh maybe he's not mad, he really forgave me' (the way he was staring at the water before makes me think the smile Ody had given him only made him feel more guilty), which only makes the realization of what Odysseus planned to do hurt more
Also Odysseus face when he says row for your lives- amazing! You can feel the despair and urgency, the raw emotion
The way he ducks past the first head, my gosh. (I didn’t see one crewmember walk up, so i briefly thought it was Eurylochus who got snapped) No matter what this is amazing!
when eury smiled in relief when ody asked him to light up 6 torches 😭😭 and tHEN THE STARE OF HORROR WHEN THEY MAKE IT OUT OF THE CAVE IM RELISHING IN THE ANGUISH
I've seen many versions of Scylla in these animatics (all of which are amazing) but I sincerely love your version of her by far!
While most others keep her more serene looking, yours looks just as feral and hungry as her six heads, making her so much more terrifying.
Overall 100/10 animatic 🎉🎉🎉
0:52 HE LOOKS LIKE POLITES IM DEAD (and so is he)
That’s Dead wrong to say
I love the pain and guilt you can see on Ody’s face as he’s trying to block everything out. Just wanting to ignore the slaughter he led the men he very much still cares for into. (think about it, he kept ALL SIX HUNDRED of them alive for 12 years, lost 15 to a monster, and then lost over 500 more to Divine Intervention/Retribution. Ody cared so much for all of his crew based on how long they all lived). I loved that this one was more focused on Odysseus-not to say the gore isn’t fine but I adore the introspection here. It adds to the song, especially the line about giving up honor. It’s not honorable to just sit there, at least fight for your life (then again, Ody was never in trouble with Scylla to begin with)
Also, Love love love Scylla going over him to get the first man with a torch.

Like the 6 men that died
Oh my GOOOOOOD, the choices you made really enhanced this song for me and made it even more emotional 😭 Odysseus patting Eurylochus on the arm and offering him a smile after he confessed!! Was it out of pity, knowing they share the guilt of having blood on their hands? Was it a bit of forgiveness? Was it a “that sucks but it’s too late to change things, we must move forward” kind of a gesture? Or was it fake forgiveness, a way to calm Eurylochus’ nerves so he doesn’t suspect what’s about to happen?
AND MY GOD, ODYSSEUS SHOWING HE’S AFFECTED BY THE CREW’S DEATHS!!! He’s completely stone-faced as Scylla first rises from the water, knowing the price that must be paid and already set in doing so. But no amount of justification in his mind can combat the feeling of seeing the carnage and hearing their screams. He knew what had to be done, but this will haunt him all the same. He has to move forward, but their cries are etched in his brain and he almost breaks for a second. GENIUS
And then to end it with Odysseus uncovering his ears, seeing the aftermath, and then Eurylochus looking him in the eye and seeing a monstrous gleam in it?! He looks to his captain out of fear and desperation and loss, and sees a Different Beast staring back! AMAZING, GENIUS, 30/10
Your Scylla is just about th loveliest little nightmare I have ever seen. This was wonderful, I wanna see more ^^
I've been consuming these animatics lately, and something I love in yours is that Ody doesn't look shocked or angry when Eury confesses to opening the wind bag. He has the same tired look as the shots before hand, and that smile he gives to Eury to me says "Hey, it's okay." but it's purely skin deep.
Edit: another thing too is Ody doesn't look surprised when Scylla shows up like I've seen in other animatics. He looks afraid or worried, but he has the look of a man who decided to cross a bridge when he came to it, and now has to own up to that choice.
Someone in another animatic (btw this one’s my favorite so far ❤ ) said the line « we are the same you and I » couldn’t be more true since later in the « King » song when Ody is destroying the suitors one of them screams « he is aiming for the torches! » 👀 Ody really became like Scylla : a monster
It's more like he applies what he learns from every foe, like using the lotus wine on the Cyclops ala Trojan horse (gift turing deadly), then using the cyclops as his imagined being to defeat Circe and her magical creation. Or becoming more Ruthless each saga only after his run in with Poseidon. To finally aiming for the torches when he finally reaches home like Scylla did here. Ultimately proving that he can become the Monster. Or something like that. Cant wait to see what the other sagas reveal! 😁
beautifull. I love that you can feel the cave in every shot
i love the slight smile you gave Eury when Ody told him to light up the torches. I like to imagine, in his mind, he's thinking everything is okay between them. Meanwhile Ody is about to do what he does.
I just love how everybody has almost universally decided eurylochus was SUPPOSED to have a torch
It's so good !! So amazing !! Gut wrenching !! The pain, the sadness, the strength !! I love it !!
When Odysseus and Scylla sing "I" together, you realize that they are both monsters.
Eury’s face at the end, when he realises what just happened breaks my heart 😭🥲
omg the forgiving look Odysseus gives Eurylochus at 1:02, like "dont worry, your fate is already set. You will pay for it in mere minutes. There is nothing I need to do to exact my revenge."
Eurylochus saw the look in his captain's eyes and saw that Odysseus was no longer human but a monster like the ones they faced before and was horrified.
Oh my gods this is fantastic!
And 0:29 was somehow a jumpscare for me lol
one thing i think gets overlooked is that as both a captain of war, the captain of the ship, and the reigning king of his homeland- giving orders that will send men to their death is well within his right and part of the expected responsibilities of a leader. I'm not saying he did nothing wrong- but it dose complicate things. solders are told to go on suicide missions all the time. crewmen are sacrificed to keep the ship as a whole afloat. people are put in harms way to protect their king. He tried to get them all home alive but because they opened the wind bag, now he has to make much harder choices as consequence. He could- and probably should- have tried to do more to protect his crew or at least let them know the risks. what he did was messed up- but i think it was more a betrayal of friendship than that of a leader. i honestly love how messy and complicated it is.
I adore how complicated and grey this whole series can get tbh!!
But I will say that there seems to be a difference between kings who sat back and sent out warriors and kings who fought alongside with thier warriors.
A separation between caste that's taken down, they saw him more as a friend/brother in arms than a king. If he was more of an traditional king I feel like they would still be pissed but ultimately would understand that's thier place in life, pawns for thier superiors. But Ody never treated them like subjects, so it hurts when they see him slip more into that persona since he needs to get home, thier lives are lesser in Ody's eyes the longer they're on this journey. It hurts but I love everyone in this musical bc of it :(
0:38 you know that we are the same
“Eurylochus, light up six torches”
*scylla devours all men holding torches*
=
“Where is he?! Where is he?!”
“Keep your head down he’s aiming for the torches!”
Sobbing, screaming, throwing up😭😭 Ximena I hope you know how amazing your animations are!! :D
I think the Epic fandom can agree on something: Odysseus was fully intent on icing Eurillicus.
I can almost hear the echo of "I'm so sorry" during the "give up your honor and faith" part, just before the scream. Such an amazing animation to accompany Scylla's song.
1:46 1:54 the detail and looks here is just… god it’s beyond breathtaking! I love your Scylla design too! She looks beautiful yet disturbing at the same time! ❤❤❤
For anyone wondering why Scylla only takes a few when she could probably take many.
I think it's because she's a genius. A mad genius, but a genius nonetheless.
She teaches anyone who transverses her domain that they can sacrifice a few sailors to pass. Any money hungry merchant who wants a short cut. Any pirate who wants a quick escape. Entire military fleets trying to flank or surprise their enemies.
All of them would sacrifice lives for their own purposes.
Not to mention Posiden's enemies. Monsters, heretics, rivals. All of them would go through her. It might even be why Posiden hasn't taken action against her. His foes weaken themselves by traveling through her domain. The very thing they believe protects them from Posiden's wrath, kills them while he laughs.
Scylla is terrifying...but now I'm interested. I gotta go round up six wingmen so I can try asking her out.
(Laughs) "Right, your funeral buddy."
Just listening to this song and your animation comes out this is perfect
THIS ALREADY EATS AND I JUST CLICKED ON THE VIDEO
I will never get over how poetic it is for Scylla to be calling out Odysseus for his secret plan, all the while his friend is apologizing for his own minor secret. I also really appreciate how this is the first time we have Eurylochus use the same line that Odysseus has constantly used as the reason for his own poor decision making of ‘I’m just a man’ but that’s one too many times for Odysseus to accept.
THIS WAS AMAZING! YOU DID SO GOOD! MY JAW WAS ON THE FLOOR! I love you show his remorse and guilt because obviously it’s not such an easy decision to make but he still had to do what he had to do.
This is the only animatic for this song where Odysseus doesn’t look shocked when Eurylochus confesses about the wind bag. Also, the relieved smile he gives after Odysseus is still willing to give him orders is a great touch.
