Nearly 50 years ago I started going out with a very beautiful girl. Since my name is Robert the others in the shop where she was working started calling her "Bobby's Girl". This became something of a tradition between us. I'd start asking her, "What do you want...?" and she'd launch into the song. Sadly she passed away two years ago after a long and happy marriage. Even though I love this song it makes me sad. Bobby, the boy next door to us was 16, I was 14, we went to the same high school, we were really close friends, but I wasn't allowed to date, this was back in the early 70's when a girl's reputation was everything. It was a Saturday morning and I heard Bobby's mom screaming, turns out Bobby had spent the night at his friend's house and on his way home that morning, he was hit and killed on his motorcycle by a drunk driver. This song was playing when my mom came in my room and said Linda needs you, Bobby was killed about an hour ago. Linda was his older sister and my best friend; she was mentally challenged and couldn't really understand what was going on. So many years have passed but I remember it like it was this morning.

I’ve been entertaining in theatres clubs and hotels for forty years. I do a full three hour none stop show , never once used an agent and worked winter and summer at least four nights a week. I have a half hour sixties disco in the middle of the show, I have always always started it with Bobbies Girl, it’s a floor filler. Susan Maughan is class, a beautiful woman who radiates professionalism and vocal talent. I often used to think I would one day meet her, but not to be. Five star entertainer, Susan Maughan.
I see her back in 1990 at the beck theatre in Hayes Middlesex she was supporting Bob monkhouse in the break for 20 mins . Bob was magic. I ended up with with belly cramps with laughter and Susan was amazing .

She was on the TV last night [London Palladium c. mid '65]. She was extremely good - and by the sounds of this, she still is.
