    whenever you lend money larger than pocket change, ALWAYS ALWAYS! get a written agreement. Tell the person, this has nothing to do with how much I trust you. but I will not lend to anyone without having it written down and signed, how much and that it is a loan. and what time scale we have agreed you will pay it back in. I did this with my sister and I said to her that... "if we forget how much, this will prevent arguments, because we can just look at it and find out how much it was."

    • @antonelabaraban
      @antonelabaraban 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      literally what I always do!!
      back when I was in driving school with my brother and cousin we made a deal that whoever gets a license first gets money from the other two, all four of parents decided to also give money and I made them all sign a written statement just to make sure.
      I ended up getting the license first and also getting the money

      With 'large*' amounts this is a must. Then there is the old saying: _"If you lend someone $50, and never see them again... it was worth it."_
      *Depending on what 'large' means to you.

    • @Tanjaaraus
      @Tanjaaraus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@NemoConsequentae That's a good saying. I think $50 is a good amount, like here you can get a cinema ticket and a decently priced restaurant meal for that. So if someone refuses to pay that back, then at least you are not out too much. (Unless you are poor ofc, but then I say it's best to just not lend any money away, since it might make you go hungry for a week)

      sadly i had to make that learning experience with not only my ex gf but also one of my formerly best friends, both at about the same time. While I got my money back from my ex thanks to the fact that she can't risk a court strike because of her work and i had enough conversational proof that she owed me the money I'm stil waiting for the money from my formerly bestie. tho I'm not the only one he owes a lot of money... Might take a while longer. Well i guess we are all fools when we are born important is to learn from your mistakes. The last time someone tried to borrow money from me I had a written agreement with both our signatures filled in. He gave back the money about a week later because he didn't pay his rent with it. Guess he planned to not pay me back and knew he was screwed because of the agreement. After everything happening with the dude, I'm sure that was his plan from the beginning and he was taken off-guard when i handed it to him xD ofc he had to act like he had no ill intentions so he agreed but now im thinking of it, he was rather quick to give it back to me after all, saying he talked to his landlord and she gave him an extended period to pay or smt if i remember correctly. suspicious. Never trust anyone if it's about money guys. The saying "Money destroys Friendships" is true, sadly.

    "Who the heck starts a fire in an apartment building with people still inside sleeping?" Someone in my mom's hometown. This landlord owned many buildings, and a weird number of them were catching fire. It's honestly deplorable that he wasn't caught after the second fire, because that should have been a really big red flag. But no, it took him killing one of his tenants when he set fire to the building before he was caught. There have since been other fires since that time, but those have been "I love fire" or "I like destroying things" rather than owners getting rid of buildings for financial reasons.

    Don't ever break the law against an ex-con. The smart ones will go through every single scrap of paper to get you on a technicality. They're the type who will get you on a sub clause to a forgotten law written in 1807. He received money but none of the others until after he sued.

    Story#1: ED should have been charged with as many counts of attempted murder as there were people in the building...and the arsonist for attempted murder-for-hire. 5-10 years my ass!
    Story#2: OP did great! She can also attach the debt (or unpaid portion) to any real property that he my acquire in the future...like inheritance...just keep an eye out for him in probate courts.
    I've said it before and I'll say it again...if you don't have an agreement or loan or whatever on paper...doesn't exist. Always have it in writing!

    The woman who hired the guy to burn down the apartment deserves life in prison and so does the guy who lit the fire. A lot of people couple died. They should've each gotten an attempted murder charge for every resident of that building. The failure of the system will result in them getting out and eventually killing people.

    Story 1: OP paid his debt to Society. No doubt about it. I deal with people who commit crimes all the time and refuse to learn. OP on the other hand saved a number of lives. That Landlord and his cohort got what they deserved.
    Story 2: I freaking hate Scammers. They deserve to loose everything and should be made to live on the streets. He deserves a special place in Hell.

    First story, the landlord and the arsonist are lucky they didn't get charged with one count of attempted homicide times however many people were in the building at the time. Especially since the fire was started when people were sleeping, if OP hadn't alerted people the fire could have ended in fatalities.

    When I was living in a bachelor apartment with my the 6week old baby (before I was moving into a bigger place) my landlords boyfriend drilled a hole in the back of the building and used a torch to set a fire. There were 7 children, 5 animals , and 5 adults in the building.

    The dude is lucky it wasn't in Missouri. He'd have gotten life in prison for the arson, since it was set at his behest. The person who started the fire, would probably have gotten a lighter sentence, but not by much. First Degree Arson is a Class A Felony here. That means the maximum sentence is life without the probability of parole, unless someone died, in which case, he may have gotten the death penalty. A person commits the crime of First Degree Arson if they knowingly start or cause to start a fire in a, while it is inhabited; or a building or structure deemed uninhabitable when a person is in the structure and dies. Both would be guilty of the crime, but the actor who lit the fire would not be as culpable as the person who paid or otherwise talked her into lighting it, since she would not otherwise been apt to set the fire to begin with. Let him rot where he belongs.

    A friend got his first remnant to his new income property and all was well until they started bouncing the check. He also had a grown daughter who happened to work in the same bank as the deadbeats and noticed a pattern having been monitoring their account. It was discovered the a hole kept a balance but it was insufficient hence the non payments. While he ( my friend) was telling me this story I stopped him and added in a conspiratorial happy upbeat tone that it’s not illegal to deposit money in to someone’s bank Abbott to make up the amount needed to clear the check! I’ll never forget the look on his face when he knew where I was going with the though process! A third and neutral party went in to make the deposit ( long before technology) and all that was needed now was to wait for the fireworks. Apparently the tenant went ballistic when he couldn’t withdraw from the merger sum he didn’t want to part with. This plan was a one time thing for obvious reasons but I’m still mentally rubbing my hands together and laughing evilly.

    I dont know why but I get a feeling that people made up these stories just for entertainment purposes.
    @4:14 OP says they worked on a deal for OP to fix ED's computer. OP was supposed to FIX the computer, not STEAL personal information of other persons. This one smells very fishy because from what I know, you can get sued and go to jail for stealing information off someone else's computer without their consent. Even cops and investigators need to have a search warrant before they can actually put their hands onto someone else's property.
    If this story is true, both OP & ED committed a crime.
