Paildramon appearing for the 1st time and the guns being synced with the Soundtrack was one of the wildest moments from 02, simple thing, but stays in your head for a long time.
Paildramon is one of my favorite Perfect/Ultimate Level Digimon because he was a fusion of two Digimon. I felt Paildramon was unique in a way Omnimon/Omegamon wasn’t because he was a Perfect/Ultimate level rather than a Mega/Ultimate level.
Look 02 did one thing right all fans agree upon. Davis opening his own noodle cart and being a successful franchise in itself was the real goat moment of the series. Davis went for his dreams and took it all the way.
Black wargreymon is a straight savage. He was not only my favorite digimon in this season but he is also my favorite antagonist. Him trying to find his purpose was a ok character arc too
One hundred percent, you know it’s a good ‘villain’ when in the end you feel sad when he dies, especially as he seemed to be coming around to the ‘good’ side
Ken is literally the only reason why I didn’t completely dismiss 02 in the end, and he has been and always will be the one character I mention if anyone asks me who’s my favorite character voiced by Derek Stephen Prince.
Armor Evolution is a concept I wished wasn’t dropped so soon. It had the potential to be unique while still keeping the Level formula of Digimon consistent.
I wasn’t a fan of it at the time as I preferred having clear ascending levels like Champion, Ultimate and Mega etc. But now rewatching the show, I definitely appreciate Armour Digivolution a lot more!
I think it was great. It kept it fresh without powering them up sequentially, raising the bar and overshadowing prior dogivolutions. They then had multiple to pick from depending on the situation. Later on they relied more on fusions because they were just stronger. And yeah they were sick but resulted in the classic power system I mentioned above.
@@raytaku_ They could have improved upon it by combining or switching their armor digivolutions. If they could always switch their armors to give different types of attacks and boosts, then it can open up a strategy of overtaking powerful foes.
Ken and Daisuke are the reason this season became my favorite Digimon season. Their relationship development through the series was heartwarming, also, watching this series in Japanese Isa whole new experience
I know that 02 has had some bad reviews over the years, but its still one of my favourites: Diferent methods of digivolving, villans with a backstory, continuity with season 1,... They went in all directions with this one, from the emperor's arc to blackwargreymon, to travelling around the world, fighting an actual human villan... It has its problems in terms of writing, but it was also full of interesting ideas and callbacks.
I often wanted to know why people gave 02 crap. It didn't have a lot of the things the first did, and I get that. But it expanded on the original series. Was it perfect? No. I wish they expanded on the Dark Ocean more and we didn't have to wait until Tri. But it did a good job nonetheless. I'm going to have to set aside some time to watch them again, that series was a lot of fun. Even if it was edited heavily.
Ken having a Crest implies to me that he was originally meant to be part of the first group of Digidestined kids but Oikawa corrupted him and molded him to be the Digimon Emperor before he had a chance to meet and join the original team
Yes!! 👏🏽… thank you for sharing this, as it’s something that I’ve always wondered too. Even his digivice was the same as the 01 kids, that was until he submerged it in the dark ocean.
Maybe if he went to that summer camp instead of going in alone then meeting timeline defying Ryo. Alas. Maybe if they retcon tri and last kizuna they could explore this
Ken has been explained in Digimon lore already, but it's complicated and related some weird stuff with Japan-only video games. In particular, there were four Digimon video games created for the WonderSwan console (a Japan-only console). The four WonderSwan games have Ryo Akiyama as a main character (which makes things even more complicated), but the middle two of these four games also give backstory to Ken. Essentially, Ryo is a character originally from the Digimon Adventure universe. Below, I'll try to summarize the plot enough to understand how Ken is involved in all this and how Ryo, a character from the Adventure universe, ended up getting to the Tamers universe. But I have never played the games myself; I have only read summaries, so it's possible I will get things wrong. In the first of the four games (Digimon Adventure: Anode/Cathode Tamer), Machinedramon from Digimon Adventure is somehow able to survive and fuse with Kimeramon to become Millenniummon, who is the main antagonist of all four of the WonderSwan games. The Digimon Adventure digidestined are brought to the Digital World to fight Millenniummon but are captured. Ryo gets called into the Digital World, defeats Millenniummon, and sets everyone free. (But Millenniummon doesn't actually die.) In the second game (Digimon Adventure 02: Tag Tamers), Ryo and Ken Ichijouji are friends and visiting each other and both witnessed Diaboromon on the internet. They get a call from Veemon (the same one which would _later_ become Davis's partner) saying that there is a Diaboromon in the Digital World which needs to be destroyed, so both Ryo and Ken go to the Digital World to fight it, but it turns out the Diaboromon is a fake created by Millenniummon to trick Ryo into getting back into the Digital World. Millenniummon splits the Digital World in two, separating Ryo and Ken. Ryo teams up with Veemon, and Ken meets Wormmon. They sort of tag-team throughout the game until they are able to reunite and fight Millenniummon, who has turned into Moon-Millenniummon. As Moon-Millenniummon is being defeated, Moon-Millenniummon releases dark spores to attack Ryo, but Ken notices and gets in the way, taking the dark spore himself, which eventually leads to him becoming the Digimon Emperor, after Oikawa prods him. (So no, Oikawa didn't make the dark spore, but he used Ken's infection with the dark spore to get him to go to the Dark Ocean and become the Digimon Emperor.) And if you go back to 02 episodes, you will find a flashback where Ken and Wormmon are with Ryo. That is essentially the explanation of Ken from the WonderSwan games. In the third WonderSwan game, Ryo once again has to fight Moon-Millenniummon, and Moon-Millenniummon causes a giant explosion, which sends both Millenniummon and Ryo to another universe. The fourth game explains some more about Ryo and ZeedMillenniummon's battle through space and time (the new form of ZeedMillenniummon being the new form of Millenniummon). At the end of the game, Ryo goes to the Tamers universe. (The fourth game has a horribly complicated and detailed plot, which I'm not going into.) So all of this is a convoluted hot mess. But it kind of explains Ken's backstory in a way that is somewhat inconsistent and somewhat consistent with the Digimon Adventure and 02 anime, along with the movies. There is a website called "Yesterday: Wonderswan Games" which is devoted to being an English resource for people interested in these four Digimon WonderSwan games, if you want more details about them. The games don't even explain Ken's crest, though, as far as I am aware, so maybe this lore doesn't satisfy you about Ken. But all of the WonderSwan and 02 lore is a mess anyway, so I guess it's to be expected.
What will it be like if Ken and Sam joined the first group of DigIDestined kids from the beginning? That would've made a huge difference if that was the case.
Fun fact! Daemon was originally planned to be Devimon from the original Digimon Adventure! Lorewise he's also far more powerful than MaloMyotismon, in fact...if we're going by the lore, Daemon is THE most powerful enemy digimon encountered throughout the entirety of Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02. I WOULD say he was the second strongest, second only to Millenniumon, but he only had a cameo in 02 so I wouldn't count him
02 is actually my fav Digimon series. Back when I watched it for the first time the concept of being a sequel series was something new to me and I always loved the aspect of it. The Digimon Kaiser ark was fantastic and black Wargreymon is my fav villain in the series. And Ken reuniteing with Worm mon was the first time I actually started tearing up when watching anything. And the german ost fucking slaps.
The emperor arc plus BlackWargreymom and Ken finally apologising to Wormmom as it apparently dies (🥹) was some of the highlights of the show for me too. I’m glad you enjoyed Adventure 02 🍻
Zero Two has some massive continuity errors from Adventure such as Tai being able to enter to digital world at the beginning of the series despite not having a D3 and the gate to it being sealed otherwise. Or when they made up a backstory for why the Adventure cast couldn't digivolve into ultimate was because they sacrificed the crests to restore the digital world; despite the fact that in Adventure Apocalymon destroyed the crests and it was later revealed that the crests were effectively a placebo the entire time. The reason for all these errors was because Zero Two began production before Adventure finished and they were constantly cycling through different writers, directors, and producers; which is also the reason why many story arcs were made and than never resolved. Zero Two behind the scenes was just an absolute mess.
One of the main reasons why Toei got Chiaki J. Konaka to become the head writer of Digimon Tamers was because of his contributions to Zero Two where he wrote the Dark Ocean episode as well as the Daemon Core episodes. He really wanted to work on the next series because of his ideas in Zero Two getting snubbed, so Toei relented and let him be the head of the next project.
And it shows in Tamers writing too! Adventure 02 could have been even better if they gave him creative to control to see through his vision. I was so fascinated by the Dark Ocean sub plot, it gave off some serious horror vibes too. It would have been interesting to see where he went with it…
chimeramon and Mugendramon(mechinedramon) are the reason why Ken got the drak spores/seeds, in the wondersawn games, it is reveled that they fused int a digimon called Milleniummon, and after he was beaten, he relesses 4 seeds and one hits ken
@@raytaku_ It was actually a bit of a time manipulation thing. Millenniummon was the jogress forms of the Dark Master Machinedramon, and Kimeramon from 02. He also used his time powers to bring Apoclymon into the Digital World, so he could create Machinedramon. Meanwhile he also used his time powers to persuade Ken into creating Kimeramon. So Millenniummon was responsible for literally everything. Devimon was a bit of a weird oddity in a way since when ken got his data, Devimon's dark power influenced Kimeramon into becoming rampant
@@Pridam Yes. I like to consider Millenniummon a time zombie since it can also bring itself back to life even accross dimensions (which is how we get to ZeedMillenniummon). I think this is called a "bootstrap paradox"? Basically Millenniummon imserted itself into the time stream by sending a piece of itself back to the past in order to assure its own existence. Just like what Fry did on Futurama. By the way, have you ever wondered why is it that Digimon Kaiser wanted a virus MetalGreymon specifically? That's because it supposedly has an easier time evolving into Mugendramon, which he needed in order to jogress with Kimeramon and thus revive Millenniummon.
Tk toying with Ken Paildramons epic music video sync gun Transformation Kari Dark Ocean Violent Malomyotismon finale and the future with everybody grown up I loved this as a kid.
Davis and Ken are my favorite characters in the whole digimon series. The evolution of Ken from villian to friend was excellent. And the way Davis guided him back to the light was powerful. The overarching story wasn't as good as season 1 and season 3 had the best plot by far. But I still say the most interesting story elements and character evolution can still be found in season 2. And im so pumped for the new movie coming this summer to have Davis and Ken find a way to bring the digimon back to our world!
I'll just never get over the dark spore being the thing that made Ken evil. It will bug me to no end that they couldn't just let a child turn bad through tragedy and find his way again. It taints the starting point to me.
@@aerostrafe1075 I never really saw the spore as being the thing that turned Ken evil. Though I do understand where you are coming from. The spore only fed off his negative emotions and intensified them, while giving him new powers in the process. The fact that the spore was still inside Ken when he turned good again says everything. It went dormant because he overcame his darkness. Also it never bloomed like the copies did in the other kids. Meaning it didn't make Ken do anything. If it had, it would have tried to take him over when he was starting to become good again. And Ken took full responsibility for his actions and made amends for them. That's a whole lot more than I have ever gotten from a ton of other shows over the years.
8:10 I remember this episode! It's little surprise this episode was created by the director of Digimon Tamers! I wish we got to see what was planned with "Cthulhumon"...
Now it all makes sense. So glad the writer got to see his vision through with Tamers. I hope they revisit the dark ocean storyline in the Adventure 02 sequel 🙏🏽
You left out the part where TK no selled getting whipped in the face, then caught the whip and tackled ken where he proceeds to beat the ever loving shit out of him.
Adventure 02 was all over the place, leaving us with multiple legendary story arcs, from Digimon Emperor to Arukenimon, BlackWarGreymon and finally Oikawa, with looots of interesting mini-stories and side stories in between. It has always been my favourite Digimon series 💯 The series introduced so many new Digimon, all designs were so interesting combined with great stories. And the soundtrack in the Japanese version was aweeesome
Thank you so much for this video. I haven’t seen the series in years but wanted a recap before I watched adventure 2 new beginning. I’m so happy a lot of the voice actors are returning because this is really a treat so I appreciate this video and look forward to more. I also liked the video and subscribed I love how you did this breakdown tbh. Because I did watch this years ago but I couldn’t keep up as a kid
I remember really liking Adventure 2 when I was a kid, even though I wound up enjoying Tamers a lot more. The only part that bothered me was the clearly dropped Dark Ocean subplot.
It actually WASN'T dropped, contrary to popular belief; it was always meant to be just a weird one-shot. It was the dub that made it seem like it was gonna be used again.
I feel like every series gets darker and darker as time goes on, but 02 is still the only series that gets me to consistently cry with everything relating to both Black WarGreymon and Oikawa. Those flashbacks to Oikawa visiting the grave, and when the 01 world colliding event happened. The ending where Cody is desperately trying to get him into the Digital World where his own Partner Digimon has been waiting for him but he dies. The part where Cody's Grandpa regrets not having reached out to Oikawa sooner, and admitting that he'd enjoy speaking with someone close to his son so they could reminisce together. Like, a lot of drama and darkness in Digimon series afterwards feel way too fake, or overdone, and not fake not in the sense that they're impossible, but improbable and yet somehow still cliche. Oooh, divorced parents angst, ooh siblings with unequal attention angst, oooh twins separated at birth and then the one of them who found out the truth about the other fucking DIES and his spirit is sent into the Digital World, oooh bastard father issues, oooh cowardice and jealousy leading to madness and developing tools to murder Digimon in such a way that DigiEggs cannot form and they've fed all the data to revive the literal beast form of the devil and through that ignorance and cowardice the literal God of the Digital World calls for the destruction of humanity. Only Oikawa's story in 02 really pulls on my heartstrings in such a way because it's such an innocent reason and not an overdone trope at all. Like, they weren't secretly gay lovers for the controversy, it wasn't an obsessive one-sided relationship, there wasn't anything that felt unrealistic about all parties involved including how Cody's grandfather reacted to what he believed to be a bad influence. These two boys formed a friendship, discovered the Digital World, grew up close and had dreams, one of them tragically died and the other was stricken by gried and taken advantage of by the spirit of Myotismon. And Black WarGreymon's story IS a bit more cliche, the "monster" who resents and laments and questions his creation and existence, feeling like an outcast in the world because of the circumstances of his birth, only to realize that the actions you take, and what you do with the gift of life are what determine one's worth and cement one's existence. Also, the dark and edgy, brooding character who has been seen as an antagonist the entire time, selflessly, and instinctively sacrificing their own life for the protection of another. But God damn if it didn't come off so perfectly and SO EARLY on in the franchise as a whole.
Ngl, 02 has always been my favorite digimon season! On a objective level, I understand that Tamers is the best season of all lol but 02 has always meant so much to me. Every character makes so happy to see. Ken's villain arc and redemption has stayed with me since I first saw it when I was a kid. I can't understand the people who say it was forgettable! Even after Ken's arc, it was really nice to see how the others tried to fit him in and Daisuke's unwillingness to give up on Ken really spoke to me. I'm currently in the process of rewatching all four of the main seasons (Adventure, 02, Tamers, and Frontier) and I'm halfway through 02 as im making this comment and I am loving it as much as I did as I was younger, now at the age of 22. In general, I love Adventure so so much. I even cried in the finale of adventure haha. But Daisuke, Ken, Iori, Miyako, older Takeru and older Hikari just are so much more fun of a group to me. Frankly, I think 02 is an upgrade in storywriting than Adventure was. Adventure very much felt like a kids show at times, but really solidified its writing style towards the end. Meanwhile, 02 had the good storywriting from the beginning. I really do love this series so much ;w; 02 is so special to me.
I genuinely loved 02! I loved how it continued the story of the first series while adding more to the lore. Flamedramon and Raidramon were always my favorite of the armored Digimon and Imperialdramon was my favorite DNA Digivolution
@@raytaku_ Ken was my favorite of the new Digidestined and I LOVED Stingmon, almost more than I loved Angemon. Characters who go through redemption arcs tend to be my favorite.
That scene with BlackWarGreymon where he protects a flower and doesn't understand why. The scene with Oikawa finally reaching the Digital World and meeeting his partner Pipimon and for him to then restore the world with his energy. Man these two scenes in particular still hit so fucking close. Just so much soul and heart in them.
Reboot, I don’t believe so but who knows… there is a sequel coming out soon for Adventure 02 in which the same cast returns but are much older now 🙂 ~Ray~
I only have 2 headcanons that potentially tie DA 02 with Tamers. 1. Kari was the teacher of the class Takato snuck into when he was late for school. 2. The Ryo from Tamers saved Cody during an earlier visit to the Digital World, before he came across Cyberdramon. There are flaws with these headcanons, but I think they're the only way that 02 and Tamers can be on the same timeline.
@@raytaku_ The problem isn't the dub, it's the fact that all of Ryo's games are japan-only, for a device that I think was also never released outside of Japan. I think the third one of Ryo's games firmly establishes that the Adventure universe and the Tamers universe are separate, and at the end of the game, Ryo chooses to go to the Tamers universe instead. He has one more game which has an opportunity for him to go back home, but he is angry at how he was treated in the game, so he chooses to stay in the Tamers 'verse.
What always bugged me even as a kid was we were warned as Blackwargreymon was destroying the destiny stones terrible things could happen to the digital world but he got nearly all of them and literally nothing happened. They all go back to normal.
Loving the videos man. You do really good work and im proud of you for covering these gems with such depth and dedication. You rock man. I loved the whole series although i didnt get to watch them all. You covering them fills a hole i always had. Im currently playing digimon world 3. Anway you rock man. Keep it up. You should make videos on the games! But skip digimon world 2. Its absolutely the worst
You know, the Dark Ocean really does not get enough lore behind it, alongside Dragomon, despite how incredible it is when you tie it to the Digimon Emperor. The idea that this realm of the Digital World is where dark thoughts manifest and that the Dark Towers and Dark Rings that Ken created as the Digimon Emperor are nothing more than constructs harnessing the power of the Dark Ocean shows a neat aspect of how the human mind and life works. Similar to how I spoke of the Digital World is similar to Persona's "collective unconsciousness" in the Tamers vid, then the Dark Ocean is also representative of humanity. If Digivolutions are meant to represent the light and potential of humanity, what the Dark Towers do in impeding Digivolutions is represent humanity's stagnation, the darkness that keeps them from ever realizing their potential.
What was the point of making an epilogue where Matt and Sora get married and Ken and Yolei get married, and not TK and Kari? And then make Matt an astronaut? It felt like a bad fan fiction
If ken got his digivice around the same time as the original digidestined then time not moving forward while he was in the digiworld is actually great continuity since the kids were in the digiworld for who knows how long and when they returned via myotismon's castle very little time had passed since the start of the show.
02 is my favorite of the digimon seasons i have seen. I liked the music in there so much better, the dna evolotions, that it had moments i cried. (oikawas death, Wizardmons ghost, Blackwargreymons sacrifice, Hikaris and Kens depressions from backstory and dark ocean), Blackwargreymon being the best and so on. it had so much good but i can understand why some people don't like it. Also Dragomon the cthullu of the Dark Ocean got an episode in Digimon Ghost Game (which i haven't seen yet but heard it happened) which i find fantastic.
I’m so glad you to hear that you really enjoyed Adventure 02! No way, that same Dragomon is in Ghost game!?! I definitely need to check it out in that case, thanks for sharing 🙂
Series 02 is my favorite, i like the characters and the older original cast. I have searched literally everywhere online for an english dub qnd couldn't find one so I finally just bought it off ebay a couple monthes ago.
Despite this being one of my favorite seasons in terms of characters relationships, I was a bit disappointed that none of the bad guys were truly bad guys. It was just a giant nesting doll of someone being controlled by someone else who was being controlled by someone else who was being controlled by someone else etc. Its only revealed at the very very end who the "real" bad guy is, making it anticlimactic.
Yo this series got me hooked SO HARD with the D3 DigiVice toys! I remember being so excited having Wormmon 🐛 🤓 Oh man and the D4 digivice went hard too!! I was shaking and scanning those things like a psycho 🤪💯
@@raytaku_ that makes them both closest thing any other fictional characters treated like Ash Ketchum in modern anime of Pokemon, down to their treatments as Anti-sues in official canon
There were so many moments I loved from 02 (Magnamon, BlackWargreymon, MagnaAngemon, all of the digivolutions present to fight MaloMeyotismon, Wargreymon v BlackWargreymon), and Ken was an excellent antagonist, but it always felt so incomplete without the conclusion to Daemon or any explanation of the Dark Ocean. I still love the season, but it has a number of problems. Didn't live up to 01
So many great moments! Adventure 02 could have benefited with having more episodes or a follow up season, which may have helped in allowing the writers the see through story beats like the Dark Ocean/Daemon 🤔
I think my biggest problem with 02 is that it is forgettable. In college I did a rewatch of 01, and watched through 02 and Tamers for the first time. I had a decent time with 02, but I barely remember any of it other than snippets. Meanwhile, I can remember character arcs, villains, plot progression, and individual episodes from 01 and Tamers.
Any of the things that stood out in 02 normally fumbled the bag at some point which causes it to be forgettable. I rewatch it every few months or turn it on as white noise on hulu. I remember everything as episodes start but outside of that my mind is a blank. The lack of direction just hurts it too much. That and the new kids are not that interesting. You can like em but there isn't much to Davis, Yolei, or Cody. Cody probably being the one with the most intrigue there but his backstory doesn't do much for his character.
😂 there’s always something good you can find in something, providing you look for it…. It’s definitely my least favourite series, but toyed with some interesting concepts none the less so I can respect that at least ~Ray~
in the sub of the epilogue it kinda hints that Kari and TK did get together. His son’s dialogue was actually i think “moms on her way” or something like that.
I believe they reentered the digital world to help Azulongmon, and after giving up their crests they where given the ability to travel to and from the Digital World. This wasn’t explained in the Eng dub/maybe was cut out?
Digimon 02 was definitely a proud successor to the original series but also introduced characters and a different form of evolution. One Nitpick I Have With the series though is the Dark Ocean plot which was interesting but went nowhere. Also while I enjoyed the Eplogue,it too felt rushed and tacked on.
the dark spores is such a stupid reveal, before that you think Ken is being depressed and a huge asshole due to his brother's death and high expectations of his genius brother set for everyone but no, it is dark seeds that made him evil.... what a great writing decision...
I don’t see anything necessarily wrong with the idea of the dark spores conceptually, as an earlier subscriber mentioned in this comment section, there’s an entire fleshed out lore behind it, but the way 02 executed showing viewers via the show, was poorly done….. ~Ray~
If you have played the Wonderswan games you would know that Ken and Ryo fought Milleniumon and upon his death Milleniumon shot Dark Seeds at Ryo but Ken got in the way and was struck.
@@theonewhoismany8072 The games offer so much more lore then their anime counterparts, it’s one of my biggest disappointments when it comes to the Digimon anime in general ~Ray~
I’ve seen this sort of thing in Pokémon and Yugioh too It would appear whatever plot device is supposed to be there is simply an “amplifier” of sorts; to amplify the trauma to corrupt the individual; BUT it also allows the anime company and writers plausible deniability if they’re ever accused of bringing up real life trauma and displaying it in “children’s entertainment” Pokémon Sun and Moon, Lusamine apparently got Nilhego toxins amplifying her trauma of losing her husband and possibly her drive to control her children so they would listen to her Yugioh GX Yubel got radiated by the Light of Destruction amplifying her overprotectiveness and being isolated/abandoned in space from Jaden Stuff like that
Good it have been less rushed and have been executed better, yeah sure. Is it bad? Nah I wouldn’t say it’s bad, it was still a fun season of Digimon to watch ~Ray~
I'm curious, will you be going through the Diaboromon Strikes Back movie, the Tri series and then the Last Evolution Kizuna movie? I think it would be a great playlist of the Digimon: Adventure-verse video reviews/discussion.
I kinda liked 02 because it was sort of my first Digimon Season I've watched and it had some amazing concepts that the show had going for. In fact, if they were executed well, then the show would be a lot better.
I feel I would've been someone like Oikawa. If I had the knowledge of the Digital World, I would feel the same. I feel bad for him and his Digimon but ultimately had a great sacrifice.
Digimon Adventure 02 is the second season of the anime saga, it’s the sequel/direct sequel to the previous season taking place 3 years after the first season and I prefer the English dub of it
Now you say that, I just realised that I have always referred to Angewo’mon’ as Ange’woman’ 🤯🤯🤯 That’s why in the english dub, when Kari would pronounced it correct with ‘mon’ at the end, I always thought it was a mistake by the voice actor 😂
02 was my favorite as a kid. Probably not as much now. But I loved it then. ETA: The ending-villian should have been something related to the dark ocean and dark world. This was the original ending.
I love some of the extra context that you can get around the Digimon Emperor plot if you're aware of Ken's semi-secret backstory in the Ryo Wonderswan game that Ken featured in. It's obvious that the Dark Spore was responsible for Ken acting so evil and becoming the Digimon Emperor. But was it really just Ken's ambition that led to the creation of Kimeramon...? Think for a moment about that Dark Spore's origin. It was launched by Milleniummon upon his defeat by Ken and Ryo. Milleniummon is a DNA/Jogress Digivolution of Machinedramon... and a Kimeramon. Was Ken just being an evil genius? Or was he subconsciously being led to try to recreate Milleniummon? And was it _really_ Devimon's influence that kept him from controlling it? It's obviously the implication presented in the anime, but when you know the backstory, it becomes... a bit less certain.| EDIT: It's also worth noting that when Ken initially saves Cody immediately following his turning away from the Emperor shtick, the big reason nobody trusts him is because he saves Cody, then turns around and has Stingmon kill the Thundermon. The problem is that nobody except Ken knows that it's not a "real" digimon, but one of the spires/towers transformed. It's Patamon's revelation about Golemon later that makes them realize that Thundermon was probably the same thing and that Ken isn't just a murderer, and may have ACTUALLY changed.
I believe that you forgot to mention when the Digidestined from 01 and 02 came together to pay respects for the memory of Wizardmon. I loved that one. What happened to that part of the recap?
I liked 02 and honestly its my favorite series. Them being able to go back and forth makes sense. They've done this before and it shows growth by mastering the thing they couldn't before. The epilogue was actually something I genuinely liked and still do. They went through so much so they deserved their happily ever afters. NGL random pairing of Matt and Sora and even more random career choices were dumb but not enough to really ruin it. Only true issue I have is Kari didn't end up with Davis. Her ending up with a random guy while Davis and even TK ended up with random women wasn't bad either. No one wins the shipping war! Lol. More importantly all 3 of them ended up happily married with kids, and isn't that what's truly important?
I’m ngl the ending really soured this season for the exact reasons you mentioned around the describable they made with the pairing. I still rewatch this season it has great moments for sure, I just wish they stuck the landing and also had fleshed out the dark ocean storyline.
It’s has some excellence in it, such as some of the ideas it bought to the table, albeit the execution left much to be desired (so my title isn’t complete clickbait right? 🤧) ~Ray~

Seeing Kuwagamon terrified of BlackWarGreymon after how much of a menace it was in the first episode of Adventure was pretty cathartic ngl
💯
That scene is so iconic
TK beating up Ken like he owed him money was by far the best moment in the entire show
💯
TK learned after his brother in law’s tactical skills in being a digidestaind lol
Ken was awesome for sure! And his voice actor was great, he did an excellent job voicing Demo-Devimon, Veemon, Piedmon, Beelzemon and Impmon too
Armor Evolution is a concept I wished wasn’t dropped so soon.
Their friendship is so well done, look forward the seeing them again in the upcoming sequel 🍻
Agreed!
~Ray~
I often wanted to know why people gave 02 crap. It didn't have a lot of the things the first did, and I get that. But it expanded on the original series. Was it perfect? No. I wish they expanded on the Dark Ocean more and we didn't have to wait until Tri. But it did a good job nonetheless. I'm going to have to set aside some time to watch them again, that series was a lot of fun. Even if it was edited heavily.
Agreed! 💯
@@kuramayoko23bad digimon design
(But Millenniummon doesn't actually die.)
In the second game (Digimon Adventure 02: Tag Tamers), Ryo and Ken Ichijouji are friends and visiting each other and both witnessed Diaboromon on the internet. (So no, Oikawa didn't make the dark spore, but he used Ken's infection with the dark spore to get him to go to the Dark Ocean and become the Digimon Emperor.)
And if you go back to 02 episodes, you will find a flashback where Ken and Wormmon are with Ryo.
(The fourth game has a horribly complicated and detailed plot, which I'm not going into.)
So all of this is a convoluted hot mess.
@@reneastle8447except it wasn’t Sam’s digivice so he wouldn’t have gone
I WOULD say he was the second strongest, second only to Millenniumon, but he only had a cameo in 02 so I wouldn't count him
A chinese source also implies that this Daemon is the same Daemon that appeared in the V-Tamers 01 manga and was faced by Taichi and Zeromaru.
@@theonewhoismany8072 Awesome, appreciate the insight! 🙂

It’s such a shame, cos Adventure 02 had the potential to be the best series out of them all
Don't forget that there are also multiple obscure RPGs on Wonderswan of all things that are also canon to 02 what just makes it an even bigger mess...
It would have been interesting to see where he went with it…
Really interesting…
Tai and Sora not getting together was a choice but TK and Kari not getting together felt like a hate crime

Tai and Sora not getting together makes me violently angry. I was robbed
I think it’s because TK has a small one.
I'm sure TK is gay they implied as much in digimon adventure tri.

chimeramon and Mugendramon(mechinedramon) are the reason why Ken got the drak spores/seeds, in the wondersawn games, it is reveled that they fused int a digimon called Milleniummon, and after he was beaten, he relesses 4 seeds and one hits ken
It’s a shame the anime chose to go the route of Ken being Kimeramon’s creator thus getting rid of that entire backstory of Milleniumon.
~Ray~
@@raytaku_ i that that was part of the time loop, but I may be mistaken
This was such a great video and nice trip down memory lane, keep up the amazing work dude :)

I was confused by Kari’s connection to the dark ocean.
Ken and Davis’s friendship was awesome and not talked about enough imo. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏽
Another great vid mate!

Yeah, there was so much potential in that Dark Ocean subplot. Tamers was awesome!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Oikawa’s story gets me every time too! So to did BlackWargreymons sacrifice 🥹
I literally just finished rewatching this on Friday!

Season one is not called 01, season 2 is called 02 because it takes place in 2002. Season 1 is in 1999.
Fair point 🫱🏼🫲🏿
I only have 2 headcanons that potentially tie DA 02 with Tamers.
1. Kari was the teacher of the class Takato snuck into when he was late for school.
2. The Ryo from Tamers saved Cody during an earlier visit to the Digital World, before he came across Cyberdramon.
There are flaws with these headcanons, but I think they're the only way that 02 and Tamers can be on the same timeline.
I believe Ryo was the sole cannon link between the seasons, the original version expands on this more. The English dub cut out so much 😖
@@raytaku_ The problem isn't the dub, it's the fact that all of Ryo's games are japan-only, for a device that I think was also never released outside of Japan.
You should do the reboot and compare it
Awesome idea. 😄

As always, thank you for sharing your thoughts 🙏🏽🍻

Agreed, Adventure 02 definitely feels like a blur when trying to recall it from memory.
You're the first and so far, only person I've seen making a positive video on this shit season.
😂 there’s always something good you can find in something, providing you look for it…. It’s definitely my least favourite series, but toyed with some interesting concepts none the less so I can respect that at least
~Ray~
in the sub of the epilogue it kinda hints that Kari and TK did get together. His son’s dialogue was actually i think “moms on her way” or something like that.
😮🤯
How was Tai able to enter the digital world at the beginning of the series? Wasn’t the gate closed at the end of adventure 01?
I believe they reentered the digital world to help Azulongmon, and after giving up their crests they where given the ability to travel to and from the Digital World. This wasn’t explained in the Eng dub/maybe was cut out?
Digimon 02 was definitely a proud successor to the original series but also introduced characters and a different form of evolution.
One Nitpick I Have With the series though is the Dark Ocean plot which was interesting but went nowhere. Also while I enjoyed the Eplogue,it too felt rushed and tacked on.
The Dark Ocean was fascinating indeed! So much wasted potential there, it’s a shame 😌
the dark spores is such a stupid reveal, before that you think Ken is being depressed and a huge asshole due to his brother's death and high expectations of his genius brother set for everyone
but no, it is dark seeds that made him evil.... what a great writing decision...
I know the games did it before the show, but that doesn't change how stupid of a reveal and reason it is on the show
@@theonewhoismany8072 The games offer so much more lore then their anime counterparts, it’s one of my biggest disappointments when it comes to the Digimon anime in general
~Ray~
I’ve seen this sort of thing in Pokémon and Yugioh too
It would appear whatever plot device is supposed to be there is simply an “amplifier” of sorts; to amplify the trauma to corrupt the individual; BUT it also allows the anime company and writers plausible deniability if they’re ever accused of bringing up real life trauma and displaying it in “children’s entertainment”
Pokémon Sun and Moon, Lusamine apparently got Nilhego toxins amplifying her trauma of losing her husband and possibly her drive to control her children so they would listen to her
Yugioh GX Yubel got radiated by the Light of Destruction amplifying her overprotectiveness and being isolated/abandoned in space from Jaden
Stuff like that
23:43 OMG i forgot how cute hawkmons baby level gets XD
😊
No lie it really did feel like it was rushed and it could’ve given more thought but it was still not bad. Right?
Good it have been less rushed and have been executed better, yeah sure. Is it bad? Nah I wouldn’t say it’s bad, it was still a fun season of Digimon to watch
~Ray~
@@raytaku_ it is a still a fun season but I think we could’ve done something more with the characters like Davis and T.K.
I'm curious, will you be going through the Diaboromon Strikes Back movie, the Tri series and then the Last Evolution Kizuna movie?
I think it would be a great playlist of the Digimon: Adventure-verse video reviews/discussion.
I absolutely plan to do just that 👍🏽🙂
~Ray~
I've always remembering between Digimon Adventure 01 and Digimon Adventure 02 since my childhood has makes me longing.
Definitely give them a rewatch when you have the time, it’s so worth it for the nostalgia trip 😊
I always wondered why did myiotismon killed both arukenymon and mummymon?
He’s a blood thirsty Psychopath. The other answer is he did so to absorb their data to gain more power given he had no more use for them
@@raytaku_ he most definitely was and that is pretty likely and plus he's a psycho tbh
I definitely cry so hard during 02
😢
I kinda liked 02 because it was sort of my first Digimon Season I've watched and it had some amazing concepts that the show had going for.
In fact, if they were executed well, then the show would be a lot better.
💯 percent agree!
I feel I would've been someone like Oikawa. If I had the knowledge of the Digital World, I would feel the same. I feel bad for him and his Digimon but ultimately had a great sacrifice.
He was such a well written character imo
Great video! I really like the background music you used. Do you have a link to it?
Thank you 🙏🏽 All the music is from the Digimon World 3 OST, if you type that in you’ll find the entire playlist on TH-cam 😊
Digimon Adventure 02 is the second season of the anime saga, it’s the sequel/direct sequel to the previous season taking place 3 years after the first season and I prefer the English dub of it
I prefer the English dub too albeit for this particular season I must say the original version had a much much better OST.
You can't tell me when you were a kid you didn't think "Why does Ange-Woman not end in -mon like all the other digimon"
Now you say that, I just realised that I have always referred to Angewo’mon’ as Ange’woman’ 🤯🤯🤯
That’s why in the english dub, when Kari would pronounced it correct with ‘mon’ at the end, I always thought it was a mistake by the voice actor 😂
02 was my favorite as a kid.
Probably not as much now. But I loved it then.
ETA: The ending-villian should have been something related to the dark ocean and dark world. This was the original ending.
I agree 💯percent, that dark ocean storyline had so much potential!!!
It's obviously the implication presented in the anime, but when you know the backstory, it becomes... a bit less certain.|
EDIT: It's also worth noting that when Ken initially saves Cody immediately following his turning away from the Emperor shtick, the big reason nobody trusts him is because he saves Cody, then turns around and has Stingmon kill the Thundermon.
This was such a great and insightful read!!! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
I believe that you forgot to mention when the Digidestined from 01 and 02 came together to pay respects for the memory of Wizardmon. I loved that one. What happened to that part of the recap?
I need to redo this and the Adventure 01 video, and make it more of an episode by episode breakdown, there’s a lot I failed to included 🙏🏽🍻
Love the world tour episodes
Yeah those were my favourite episodes!!!
The fact that they denied us Angewomon that whole season irks my soul to this day.
🙃 I hear that
While I'm not of fan of 02's messy handling of the story and the epilogue (of which I have a lot of problems), I enjoyed 02 for what it was.
It’s definitely not a total failure, for the most part it’s a fun season, and BlackWarGreymon was awesome!!
@raytaku_ Yeah the dark ocean was the biggest missed opportunity. Daemon is still around and he didn't get any fleshing out.
When I See the Title of the Video I thought that you being a Sarcastic about Adventure 02
It’s has some excellence in it, such as some of the ideas it bought to the table, albeit the execution left much to be desired (so my title isn’t complete clickbait right? 🤧)
~Ray~
@@raytaku_ if only they executed more well and better characterization of Daisuke, Yolei and Iori this is probably a Excellent Series, too bad most Digimon Fans Hate this series and calling it the worst Digimon Series until dethrone by Xros Wars Boy Who Leap in Time as The Worst Digimon Series Ever
Also Multiple Plothole such as Ryo and Millenniummon, Belial Vamdemon Return, and the Whole Dark Ocean plus Dagomon Shenanigan
This is season of Digimon is coming back in 2023 in October soon
👏🏽
(At 37:05) All expect for one of his royal night forms, Magnamon (which I still question: Does he have three fingers or five?)
