The fact that fifteen year old Connor was just chilling looking at his phone and shit and beats this 80 year old man super nonchalantly is the most anime thing ever

Connor is a legitimately good storyteller. So many different things are brought up -- personal relationships and rivalries, the difference between natural talent and dedicated study, the psychological aspects of the game, the inner workings of chess tournaments, pressure from upper-class parents on their kids to excel, etc. An absolute gold mine for manga writers to tap into
I love the idea of a sports anime parody where everyone is super into it in the classic sports anime way EXCEPT for the protagonist, who just doesn't give a shit but wins anyway. That could genuinely be hilarious
Nope, Connor's arc hasn't ended yet. When he's older, Connor will come across this overtly enthusiastic Japanese kid who wants to be the ultimate grandmaster and Connor will see himself in the kid, the kid initially underestimates Connor but seeing him pwn some random grandmaster whom the kid idolizes makes the kid decide to make Connor his coach, but Connor doesn't want to because of his disenchantment with the tournament scene, he will eventually relent after seeing the kid's honesty, they'll rise from a small town and like in any other good student-mentor relationships they both learn life lessons from each other, Connor is the kooky mentor archetype trying all sorts of unorthodox tactics, all of this in order to make the kid a world champion. I can already feel the feels.
I think if this were a manga, keeping the “… actually this isn’t worth it” would be really powerful. It would be a side to a story where it’s like “yeah I’m good at a thing, but does it make me happy? Does the environment make me happy?” And especially with the buildup of the training arc and the rival, all of that would be subverted when you say “right but I’m not happy. And I get to choose how my life goes, not some old guys.” I don’t know that would be pretty powerful I think :)
I would love it if at the start of the anime, everyone else is super interested in chess and the MC doesn't really care but they just kept winning until they get higher and things get more difficult and they never study chess like Conor, don't write notes or learn so in order to go higher they have to start playing it professionally because geniuses is made of 1% Talent and 99% Hardwork. Also showing that some of the rich kids and prodigy who'd been practicing chess their whole life don't even enjoy or like it because it was forced upon them by their parents who wants it for better resume and image. It could even show the abuse of the coaches, overstudying, burnout, toxic environment and the predatory relationship between coaches and students 14:39 Never get praises for winning, only "good job" or "you may have won but don't get cocky" but if you made one tiny mistake or make a move under 5 minute because you didn't think long enough, the coach will chew you out like they would be screaming at you, rinsed your move, making you feel like shit. They will only praises you if you make it a living hell for the opponent, like the 13 yo girl that Conor mentioned. Imagine an episode like that in the anime, when 30 minute in, the MC already know that they will lose but they can't quit so they have to dragged it out for hours and make it awkward for the other person and making moves just to cockblock and annoy them. The MC hate it, it's just like torture. When it's over and they come back to the team, everybody is cheering like "Congratulation, you really make it hell for that 13 yo" and the MC don't feel great, they don't want to make the opponent feel bad and they couldn't even comfort them. They just lost, they got a stalemate, they worked for hours for a stalemate. The difference between casual and professional chess. When the MC was still playing casual, it was easier, less stress and more fun. But when they start playing professional, it got tired and toxic and less enjoyable. The MC quit chess because they were scarred from the experience. The MC will say to their best friend "You know, if i got into chess later in life, i probably would have a more healthy learning and enjoyment of the game". The ending will be sad, where the MC loses their love of chess in the superficial professional circuits, but the epiloge where we find them in a bar playing chess casually while having a conversation with their best friend who's the 2nd best player years later made up fof it. Bonus: Also in an early episode where the MC is just chilling, looking at his phone and just beat this 80 year old man nonchalantly @PoeticSonic comment about MC's dad used to be a legendary chess player would be perfect
Reminds me of the long hair guy in ping pong the animation that loses to Smile, decides to retire and wander the country until finally coming back to where it all happened
I feel like Connor’s story reads more like an antagonist or rival character. Like he straight up doesn’t care but just is good at the game and the main character who is dedicating his life to it has to beat him. The whole story reminds me of that one guy in Baby Steps who liked to paint pictures on the court except instead of drawing between matches he played Pokémon.
The fact that he brought up his bully, who he said was really good at chess, I'm picturing like mid-tier antagonist that the protagonist has to struggle to beat while connor can just play chess super well intuitively, but it pushes the protag enough that once the protag beats connor, he's now prepared for the bully character, and the protag and connor bond over disliking the bully character, and then connor's super aloof about his loss and not really caring about chess anyway but wishes the protag luck in beating the bully
imagine the bully being the mc. Like everyone is afraid of him because of him always looking intimidating and the only thing that brings him joy is playing chess because his late grandfather, the only person who cared for him, did enjoy it. ...One day he recognizes this one guy from his school (Connor) and would fight him for not taking chess seriosly like he does. Still ...because of Connor knowing his secret he keeps an eye on him and with time Connor starts recognizing the importance and joy that chess can bring on and the Bully, with the help of Connor, would start to open more and see life in a new light. ... ... ... they kiss.marry and have two kids. One girl and a boy. The end
Season 30 he goes on an adventure, trying to win over 10,000 chess pros all across the world and while he is focusing on winning, he realizes that only with his friends acquired along the way he can enjoy the wins.
"You came from nowhere?. No chance of making it to the big leagues?. Ha, this is chess kid. The one who underestimates the pawn... Has already lost" -Connor's dad in the manga probably
petition to make connor's life a manga he has fight club for your action anime he has chess club for your sport anime he has anime club for drama he has his youtube channel for slice of life what more do you want?
I may have played Connor at some point. I did a similar thing to him started in year 3 and went to regionals in 2011-12. Memory's fuzzy but it might legit be him.
And the anime adaptation would deviate from the original battle arc of the manga and instead of training to become the best, he just gives up and plays pokemon.

Connor's story is like that one character on a sports anime where he is super good at the sport without even trying that he find the sport boring rather than a protagonist
"That Time I Became A Professional Chess Player, But I Didn't Care" OR "Who Am I? I Am A Profesional Chess Player For Fun" (Saitama "Hero for Fun" reference)
The thought of a 15 year old Connor just casually facing this elderly super macho, wall-of-bricks type guy at chess and being so casual about it that he was playing Pokemon in between rounds because he didn't even care about what moves the opponent was making, ending with him beating the older man so hard that there was genuine concern about whether this actual physical threat of a person was about to go ham on a kid, is just so cool to me
and connor's dad is a legendary chess player who won all the GMs in secret because he doesn't want the publicity and little did connor know, his dad was the one who put these instincts drilled into him through playing chess repeatedly and teaching him what to do through playing rather than by words. as Connor starts getting into chess he realizes his father's teaching to what they truly are. and the moves he casually does are actually legendary moves he just doesn't know their name because his father never told him
Isn't that just make him more of 'protagonist' himself. It is a common trope that the protagonist got his ability from his father that most likely to gone missing
The fact that a school bully would end up being a good strategist at a game like chess doesn’t surprise me, because the predatory tactics they come up with to undermine others is some of the most ingeniously evil ways of thinking.
@@TheJoethud22 So they say. Sometimes you learn you're stronger and more resilient than you think, and finally manage to turn things around for yourself. It's actually pretty sad that the moment a child is good at something, adults will force them to be better and better without letting the child enjoy it and the adults will pick at every mistake and criticize every move. And really. They're kids. Let them make mistakes. If children are demonized for messing up, at what point in their lives will it be okay to make a mistake?
Chess can actually be super interesting if you look at it the right way. There are some stories that are so absurd that you think you could only hear about them in an anime when they're trying to hype a character up, like how the world champion beat 10 people at the same time while looking the other way. th-cam.com/video/cTeDkyQUbyY/w-d-xo.html

This reminds me so much of that time I unknowingly beat the provincial champion of Super Smash Bros Melee back in my early twenties. My roommate invited the champion over because he happened to be a friend. I didn't know he was champion of anything, but I'd seen him destroy in CoD lobbies so I knew he was at least decent at games. Also my roommate was pushing hard to become a pro Starcraft II or Leagues of Legends player at the time. In short I knew both were pretty hardcore gamers, but I didn't know one of them had won a bloody provincial tournament not two years ago. And then there was me, a guy who just played video games for fun, including Smash for a hefty fraction of my childhood. A couple other people show up, roommate be like "let's Smash" and they boot up the Gamecube. And I'm like "Hey cool, Smash, haven't played this game in a while. Can I hop in?" Now full context, all of them had no idea I had any talent at games. They knew I played games occasionally and I usually preferred solo story driven stuff like RPGs. I'm not that competitive of a guy. And it had been *years* since I last touched Smash. All of them played regularly still, but even though they all thought I was nowhere near their level, they were pretty cool about it and allowed me turns at playing the game with them. The only two characters I mostly remembered were Marth and Link, so I picked Marth who was kinda my off-main. I remembered his moveset being pretty straightforward so I thought he'd make for an easier time easing myself back into the game. First round I played was a 4 player Free for All melee with items and all that good casual stuff. Warm up game for everyone basically. I won it decisively, mostly because the other 3 guys (champion wasn't in on this game) were too busy killing each other off to worry about little old me getting re-accustomed to the controls. Also I lucked out and got an easy 3 kill with the hammer at one point. Still they didn't expect the rusted *newbie* to win. All four guys be like "Duel me right now, Final Destination, 3 lives each, no items." And I'm like "Okay." First I beat the weakest of the four players, one of the two other friends who arrived after Champion Guy. He's an hyper aggressive Fox player. I zone him out with Marth's superior melee reach no problem. After losing his first life without landing one decent blow on me, he starts to get defensive and using range to whittle me down. I ignore the laser pistol damage and go in for two quick extra kills and win the match 3-0. Next is the second extra, who's a very defensive and patient Zelda/Sheik player who wants me to fight him on Temple. He gave me a very hard time since I was playing Marth still who has exactly zero range capability. Always trying to retreat and bombard from afar that guy. I narrowly win the match 3-2. Now they're starting to take me seriously. Roommate goes in with his Captain Falcon and gets absolutely demolished 3-1 on Coneria. Then Champion Smash player be like "Now that I've seen you beat 3 opponents with your Marth, I can easily counter you entire playstyle. Let me wipe the floor with you with my Ganondorf." Back on Temple for this final bout. Only then did I realized I was playing someone on an entirely other level. My roommate and the two extras can't hold a candle to him when he gets serious. He knows the game inside out, can abuse a half dozen glitches he calls "tech moves" which I didn't even knew existed and absolutely ravaged my Marth in less than 2 minutes of non-stop sublime comboing. And I'm like "Wow you're good at this. Let me switch to my main." Everyone : NANI!? That _wasn't_ your main? Me : Nah, my main for most of my childhood Smash career was Link. I only played Marth about 5-10% of the time. But now that I've warmed up from years of not playing with about 5 rounds of Smash, let me see if I can beat this last guy with Link. Champion : Wait you mean YOUNG Link right? Link sucks. Young Link is the only one who's got competitive potential. Me : Nope. I am a Main OG Adult Link player. Pick any character you want, I'm gonna beat you with my Link. Champion : ...Alright, then you'll have to face my own main ; Fox (because of course, they all main frigging Fox when they get "serious".) We do a re-match on Coneria. Link Vs Fox. Our range game is about equal. He gets a lot of laser hits in, but I manage to play around his deflector with bombs and fake outs, predict and exploit his tendency to overuse the move and somehow land first blood. He quickly finishes my damaged Link with a well-placed aerial kick and reset the match 1-1. We both lay off the range game for a while and just beat the shit out of each other in melee. I'm starting to pick up on his "tech moves" as the match goes on and ask him how he does one of them in particular which seems impossible ; a ledge recovery glitch that allows him to exploit a few frames of invulnerability that he times with my attempt to smash him off the map. To his credit, he's pretty gracious about it and teaches it to me on the spot. By the end of the bout, I managed to clutch the win by reproducing the same glitch on him and quickly blowing his Fox off the map one final time. Everyone in the room is like "YOU JUST BEAT A SMASH CHAMPION! WHO ARE YOU, AND WHY ARE YOU A GOD?!" Only then did my roommate thought it wise to mention Champion Guy had won a provincial level tournament of Smash. I'm like "No way." They show me a picture of Champion Guy receiving 5000$ in prize money. My only reply was "Look, I just played Link for 3 years straight okay. My dedication to that one character is what bridged the gap here." But Champion insisted I was a natural at it, and if I put my mind to it I could master all the other characters. We kept playing for the rest of the evening. Champion decided to become a teacher and show us all of his tricks, and coach me a little on how to play Young Link. Then I went on to perfect my Marth over the course of a few weeks of regular play with the guys and started expanding into the whole rooster of characters. One year later I was at least as competent with all characters as I was with Link on that night I first beat the Champion. Him and me played hundreds, if not thousands of bouts during that time, improving immensely as rivals until one day the Gamecube bricked and we sadly had to move on to other games. He introduced me to CoD Black Ops 2 (PS3 version) and within two months we were casually dominating public lobbies on split screen Team Deathmatches, racking up an average of 30 kills each in 75 kills to win 6v6 games. Good times. Anyway this turned into a way longer rant than I initially anticipated, but basically the gist of it is I can get really good at games when I put my mind to it, but most of the time I can't be bothered. Also I'm older now and carpal tunnel syndrome killed any chance I might've had at competitive gaming... Big sad. PS : I kept the names of the people in this story purposefully vague in order to preserve their anonymity.
Ok this will be an anime lasting 24 episodes, this isn't entirely accurate btw Episode 1: Introduction to mc, 8 years old, not really interessted chess but is really good and plays with his dad. The mc tries to get into the chess club but they don't allow the mc however outside of the club he beats their best player and is then invited into the club for a day and beats everyone in the club however isn't allowed to stay in the club since he isn't old enough. Episode 2: Skip to 4 years later, the mc is 12 years old and part of the chess club, and is now competing with other schools and introduces the mc's rival with roughly the same skill level as him, in this episode they beat all the other teams and leaves the final game (against the previous winners of 10 years in a row) to episode 3. Episode 3: The fight against the winners of this tournament for the previous 10 years. Ends with them winning and their coach inviting them to the nationals. Episode 4: The first 2 rounds the mc and his rival has in the preliminaries finishes with his rival losing the game and being out of the tournament but will provide moral support him in future games. Episode 5: The next 2 rounds of the preliminaries are done quickly and it is mainly the game between him and the ace of the team the mc beat in episode 3, which ends in a draw. Episode 6: The next round in the tournament Episode 7: The finals Episode 8: An invitation to be in a team in the world championships, their ace was his old bully and there is flashbacks. Episode 9-14: Various rounds in the world championships until the finals. Episode 15: The final game, against someone who is talented and trains hard, the mc loses. Episode 16: Skip to 10 years later, the mc is 22 years old and has quit chess after that loss but is now getting back into it, joining a bar chess club and beating everyone, with humor about how the mc looks meek compared to everyone else looking bulky and intimidating. Episode 17: The mc does a chess battle against an ex grandmaster and he wins getting himself the job. Episode 18: The mc gets convinced to rejoin the team and participate in the world championships. Episode 19: The mc fights a female grandmaster which he draws against and she will now provide morale support with him in future games, along with possible romance. Episode 20-24 Game against the person who beat the mc in episode 15 who is now the world champion. In episode 24 the world champion offers a draw which after a lot thought, the mc declines which causes the mc to lose

The opening song would be called [ HA!・ビショップ・GO・ブープ! ] (Ha! Bishop go boop!) named after his favorite chess opening. And the ending song would be called the Japanese equivalent of the English phrase "Prolonging the Inevitable". The show would also have a metaphor for controlling the center like "taking the high ground" or something It would also have the usual chibi thought bubble explanation diagrams for explaining chess terms.
No, episode 24 is the epilog where it skips a few years and shows him going through school like normal, going to pubs to hang out. Then he starts picking up chess again after seeing two adults playing, and asks to play after. Then it shows him loving it again and playing casually. Even showing the game with the buff guy as one of the jokes.
To be honest, that would not really be an enjoyable match to watch. If Connor is even a fraction as good as he lets on here, his Elo rating is probably somewhere in the 1700's or higher. Cr1tikal is only around 1000 Elo. It's genuinely difficult to properly express how big of a gap this is. If they played 100 games, Cr1tikal would be lucky to win 1 of them.
I had a similar experience with maths. I’ve never been particularly good at maths but at like 7th grade everything just made sense to me and got an opportunity to compete for my school in the math olympics. Some of my friends were in too so at the start I was just having fun competing but at some point my mom wanted me to do nothing but math equations for the entire day, took my videogames and threatened to punish me severally if I lost on purpose (since she was noticing an attitude from me). Needless to say I dropped out the entire thing and she took my videogames for like a week, also now I hate maths xd.
Parents really do kill passion. I'm not great at piano naturally but I have good memorization skills so like I could copy what other people would do on the piano and be able to replicate it pretty spot on after a few tries. I cant read sheet music at all and Im shit at theories, but like if I watched a TH-cam video of someone playing the piano, I'd like be able to copy them no problem. I got prizes within my community for my piano playing and my dad just forced it so hard. I had to practice the piano every day at the exact same time and I wasn't allowed to look at anything other than the piano books. Which I obviously couldn't read. I'd legit spend an hour just replaying things over and over and over again. It completely destroyed it for me cause it just became a chore. It's been over 10 years since I last played piano, though I do still enjoy watching piano videos.
The only thing that’s missing from this anime storyline is the development of a gradual friendship and mutual respect between Connor and his bully senpai.

He’s taken it back up in uni and he’s still fucking amazing, I hope his dream team picks him up eventually. (I’m also a Celtic fan so it would be great to see this happen)
How Conner explains how he lost interest in chess is exactly how I lost interest in football (American). I had a lot of fun for the first few years but after a while the coaches became almost obsessive with doing everything perfect. I think they just forgot “It’s all about the game”

I relate to this whole experience so much, this is exactly how most academic competitions/olympiads are. And the adults pressure you so much to the point that you lose your passion for the sport or subject and that's so disappointing....
You know the overly sexualized female anime character Yeah I'm in a tournament playing chess against this girl. And she just goes and licks her queen like wtf lol. I still don't know why she did that.
I remember when my friend got me to start playing chess when is got to high school. It began as a toss up for who won between us, but I became consistent in beating him. We joined the chess club and it didn't take long for me to become the second best player. The number one player was a senior, while i was still a freshman. He used to absolutely demolish me, but I started forcing draws between us. I've only beaten him once, and that was because he messed up and sacrificed the wrong piece. I stuck with it for a couple years, even popping up occasionally after I quit, before moving on to the wrestling club. I know for sure I wouldn't make it professionally, but I still enjoy chess to this day
Dang Connor's Chess story has everything for a sports anime/manga/light novel Raw talent that is only discovered after playing the game A teammate rival A true antagonist the bully which could develop into a friendly rivalry And the romantic interest, in the girl at the last part that could go from "I hate you" to "yeah I like you okay"
The sequal: Protagonist: I hate chess but my best friend who loves it taught me about it. I learnt to love chess when I met my rival who's mentor was conner, the fallen chess prodigy
I was a *finalist* in the "unofficial" tournament we boys held in our school. But I never played the final... Cause at that point the competition was too intense. Although I was never pressured to win by coach or parents (cause its just we boys organising an event), the environment was still very intense. I felt like *for every move I make my heart skips a beat* .... At this point it was kind of too much pressure for me. I wasn’t here to play for my country, I was just playing for fun. But this was not fun for me anymore. So I dropped. I didn’t even play the finale cause that's when the pressure is at its peak. I felt like I'm more comfortable in losing rather than going through one more super intense match.

And I get to choose how my life goes, not some old guys.” I don’t know that would be pretty powerful I think :)
when you put it like that, it makes me think of the last arc of Vagabond
I would love it if at the start of the anime, everyone else is super interested in chess and the MC doesn't really care but they just kept winning until they get higher and things get more difficult and they never study chess like Conor, don't write notes or learn so in order to go higher they have to start playing it professionally because geniuses is made of 1% Talent and 99% Hardwork. Also showing that some of the rich kids and prodigy who'd been practicing chess their whole life don't even enjoy or like it because it was forced upon them by their parents who wants it for better resume and image. It could even show the abuse of the coaches, overstudying, burnout, toxic environment and the predatory relationship between coaches and students
14:39 Never get praises for winning, only "good job" or "you may have won but don't get cocky" but if you made one tiny mistake or make a move under 5 minute because you didn't think long enough, the coach will chew you out like they would be screaming at you, rinsed your move, making you feel like shit.

@@-chenlanying5818 Do you mind if I steal this for a story? I might not ever write it, but just in case :) your write-up is amazing.
Connor is a weeb because he’s been an anime protagonist
That's the true weeb
But his story ended. Now there's another protagonist.
He's the self insert NEET character
What happened later, is he became the antagonist. And among those 3, one of them would be tasked to defeat him, and defeat him they did
I feel like Connor’s story reads more like an antagonist or rival character. Like he straight up doesn’t care but just is good at the game and the main character who is dedicating his life to it has to beat him. The whole story reminds me of that one guy in Baby Steps who liked to paint pictures on the court except instead of drawing between matches he played Pokémon.
I definitely see that
He reminds me of Brooklyn from the original Beyblade
The fact that he brought up his bully, who he said was really good at chess, I'm picturing like mid-tier antagonist that the protagonist has to struggle to beat while connor can just play chess super well intuitively, but it pushes the protag enough that once the protag beats connor, he's now prepared for the bully character, and the protag and connor bond over disliking the bully character, and then connor's super aloof about his loss and not really caring about chess anyway but wishes the protag luck in beating the bully
his story sounds like a comedy anime to me where he is that mc who doesn't give a shit about it but still wins anyways
imagine the bully being the mc.

Can I hop in?"
Now full context, all of them had no idea I had any talent at games.
All four guys be like "Duel me right now, Final Destination, 3 lives each, no items." And I'm like "Okay."
First I beat the weakest of the four players, one of the two other friends who arrived after Champion Guy.
Let me switch to my main."
Everyone : NANI!? That _wasn't_ your main?
Me : Nah, my main for most of my childhood Smash career was Link. I only played Marth about 5-10% of the time. But now that I've warmed up from years of not playing with about 5 rounds of Smash, let me see if I can beat this last guy with Link.
Champion : Wait you mean YOUNG Link right? Link sucks. Young Link is the only one who's got competitive potential.
Me : Nope. I am a Main OG Adult Link player. Pick any character you want, I'm gonna beat you with my Link.
Champion : ...Alright, then you'll have to face my own main ; Fox (because of course, they all main frigging Fox when they get "serious".)
We do a re-match on Coneria.
My dedication to that one character is what bridged the gap here."
But Champion insisted I was a natural at it, and if I put my mind to it I could master all the other characters.
Pretty good story :)
So cool!!

I need all the videos you mentioned here-
The opening song would be called [
HA!・ビショップ・GO・ブープ! ] (Ha! Bishop go boop!) named after his favorite chess opening.
And the ending song would be called the Japanese equivalent of the English phrase "Prolonging the Inevitable".
The show would also have a metaphor for controlling the center like "taking the high ground" or something
It would also have the usual chibi thought bubble explanation diagrams for explaining chess terms.
@@kingfish5280 thank you very much sorry late reply 💀
He was professional in playing pokemon, chess is just a hobby.
Can’t believe he had a beth harmon experience

Not anymore lol
“I wasn't praised for winning. I was praised for making things awkward for the other person.”
When Conor said guess who was sitting there, I screamed out MAGNUS CARLSEN!!!! Then he said his schools bully, still wasn’t disappointed tho
bro Magnus is from Norway, how could he be in Connor's national team?
Divye Dixit idk I always associate Magnus with anything chess related
@@aiwash2766 bruh same
@@aiwash2766 I was waiting for Magnus entry on the tournament arc

well your wish has been answered cause he's literally doing a tournament the others and a few other Anitubers

Chess: GAME
Chess: Connor Next Generations
"I didn't care about chess, I was just good at it" Connor straight up gave me Daiki vibes (From KNB)
Aomene loved bball tho hahahah
Shikamaru
Bruh oml same 🤣
In mindset it would be more like murasakibara cause he was just made to play bb
I can imagine the anime, the opponent is having an existential crisis over a single move, and him just saitama face looking at his phone
Connor vs Cr1tikal for the God of Chess Championship
The referee shall be xQc
To be honest, that would not really be an enjoyable match to watch. If Connor is even a fraction as good as he lets on here, his Elo rating is probably somewhere in the 1700's or higher. Cr1tikal is only around 1000 Elo. It's genuinely difficult to properly express how big of a gap this is. If they played 100 games, Cr1tikal would be lucky to win 1 of them.
@@Ruminations09 if he's playing on a national level his elo should at least be above 2100. At least.
Does anyone know what Connor's last name is?
So I see you again man without a mustache
@@Ruminations09 National tournaments are recorded right? So if someone knows conner's full name/when he was playing we can find out his elo back then.
The anime is called “march comes in like a lion”
YES
but less depressing
It's Shogi. It's different. It is similar to chess but has many different rules.
The weeb work is never done with his loli decsiples
That's a shogi anime. I've seen it and it's a great anime but it operates with a different rule set. It's basically "Japanese chess"
3:06 my haikyuu obsessed brain was like “you should've come to shiratorizawa” when I heard this 😂😂
"BY GOD! IS THAT THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE THETA OPENING OF 1953?!"
*Horsie go Brrrrrrrrrrr*
I love how Connor is sitting alone.
He's the prodigie.
Or maybe just the host ;D
What a prodigy.
Can't believe Connor lost to Gigguk in the chess tournament
The ultimate underdog story
What?
@@ahmadhassan8466 tournament arc
Gigguk is the protagonist of the 3rd Season of Connor's Chess life that's why. Connor being the antagonist of the third season of his own show is kinda weird tho.
@@gokbay3057 Because in season 4, they have to team up to beat the antagonist and his minions in the next arc. And finally, Joey can help too as he beats some of the smaller enemies, but is back in the best friend seat after the first few episodes
I have a mate who was incredible at football, his dream was to play for Celtic but his parents pushed him that hard he gave up on it. He’s taken it back up in uni and he’s still fucking amazing, I hope his dream team picks him up eventually. (I’m also a Celtic fan so it would be great to see this happen)

@@botiberius3050 aw man that hurt but it's probably best to not get a season 2
How Conner explains how he lost interest in chess is exactly how I lost interest in football (American). I had a lot of fun for the first few years but after a while the coaches became almost obsessive with doing everything perfect. I think they just forgot “It’s all about the game”
Remember how in The Sims 3 you could play chess with the Reaper to save a dying person?
*BREAKING NEWS: PEOPLE STOPPED DYING*
The Reaper: _crying in the corner because they had lost every session with Connor_
Connor save the day
The reaper :your soul is mine!
Connor: I'm about to end this mans whole carrer!
That's why people die then, Connor wants to win not stalemate, he quickly end the game if he fucked up in the first 30 min
Connor: Mum, dad... I'm quitting chess
Connor's parents: this is so disappointing.... Alexa, play chesspacito
Connor being good at chess and explaining it as “I don’t know i just did it” reminds me of when I played Numero on at a state level as the teams best player but never showed up for a single practice because I hated staying after school, Finding someone with a similar story is always cool just connor’s is waaay more interesting 😂
I relate to this whole experience so much, this is exactly how most academic competitions/olympiads are. And the adults pressure you so much to the point that you lose your passion for the sport or subject and that's so disappointing....
You know the overly sexualized female anime character
Yeah I'm in a tournament playing chess against this girl.
And she just goes and licks her queen like wtf lol.
I still don't know why she did that.
Shes a jojo bust lol
sounds like a kakegurui character to me
Physiological warfare.
Isnt that a foul for psychology distraction... like playing with your pen clicking sound
To assert dominance
I remember when my friend got me to start playing chess when is got to high school. It began as a toss up for who won between us, but I became consistent in beating him. We joined the chess club and it didn't take long for me to become the second best player. The number one player was a senior, while i was still a freshman. He used to absolutely demolish me, but I started forcing draws between us. I've only beaten him once, and that was because he messed up and sacrificed the wrong piece. I stuck with it for a couple years, even popping up occasionally after I quit, before moving on to the wrestling club. I know for sure I wouldn't make it professionally, but I still enjoy chess to this day
Damn
Dang Connor's Chess story has everything for a sports anime/manga/light novel
Raw talent that is only discovered after playing the game
A teammate rival
A true antagonist the bully which could develop into a friendly rivalry
And the romantic interest, in the girl at the last part that could go from "I hate you" to "yeah I like you okay"
Yeah, the girl that he tortured in Chess totally sounds like that one characther that becomes the love interest.
The sequal:
Protagonist: I hate chess but my best friend who loves it taught me about it.
“YOU CANT MINDLESSLY MOVE YOUR PIECES ACROSS THE BOARD!”
“haha bishop go weeeeee”
I was team captain and first chair of my high school chess team, and I've got to say, high level chess really takes it out of you. The experience is fun with friends, but if you're actually trying to go for the gold, it sometimes gets really disheartening and stressful.
I understand how heartbreaking it is also due to watching March comes in like a Lion, and watching queens Gambit Magnus probably the best modern chess player in the whole world, but I wonder if Bobby was still here would he have gave him a good challenge.
I also play games semi-competitively
Learning chess by studying: Broke
