I'm pretty confident that Anuraj saw that he couldn't castle with his king and thought that that meant that to castle you need to move the rook to the f8 square and I like to believe that he was surprised to see that his king remained in the same square.

The ending is poetic, the knight gets the chance to hit the game winner after 400 years of being completely exposed to the impending pawn capture but anuraj has other plans, and blunders the rook, giving a last chance to the knight to deliver check mate, that doesn't happen and instead like a medieval soldier just missed his last sword stroke, the black king gets checkmated himself.
This game is an attestment to the human capability to fuck up and keep fucking up until there is no more up to fuck.
The most beautiful rendition of chess I've witnessed, thank you Michael and Anuraj

On behalf of 400s, we're hurting so bad because of this match. It went so well in the beginning then I started to die on the inside when it got to the middle game.

He had a 20% gap in our accuracy.
I won that game (by pure luck I'm pretty sure it was either a mouse slip or he got scared with his advantage and I was higher rated than him) in the end the best player came out on top(because in chess skill is a useful tool but luck is the best tool)

The amazing game that white had played so far, black hanging all their pieces, and then the unknown tension as two 400-rated players stared into each others' eyes, deciding to agree to reveal their true inner 400s to the world, as Levy built up his commentary to a crescendo of unprecedented height, and black playing the BRILLIANT ROOK TAK- ?!!!

This is a meaning of "win" of which I was not previously aware. The most amazing part of this game is that one or both players apparently realized that checkmate had occurred.
Well... It _was_ an online match, so the computer handles detecting checkmate.
So, given the quality of play, its quite possible that both players were surprised when the checkmate was announced.
22:00 the reason for g3 was that he thought that knight h2 was checkmate, so he was making a square for his king
The explanation for the game is: Michael doesn't know how to capture with pawns. He didn't capture exd5, nor cxb6, nor dxc5, nor, of course, hxg4.
Michael being able to take the Knight for about 60% of the game was agonizingly painful to watch. That hurt me on a spiritual and emotional level. Holy shit. XD
