I bought one at an antique store that was going out of business. I had the same thought, what a handy little vise for hobby projects. I have not used it a single time.

Been using this exact vise for 6 years I'm an amateur lock picker this viise is popular in the lock picking community for clamping locks for practice picking

Oh wow. I didn't know that but that makes sense. I'd played with lock picking about 10 years ago but never really got into it. Makes sense this would be great for holding practice locks. Cool to know, thanks!

I've got one of those that's older than I am (40) and still use it all the time.

Right on. I should have looked into how long they've been making these. Kind of remind me of a Foredom product. Been around a long time and pretty much unchanged. Cheers 👍

I own one and never found it all that useful. The vise that was a complete game changer for me though was the Millers Falls V-line vice. It clamps to a bench or table top so it can be moved about easily and still be sturdy. It lets you clamp things in either a horizontal or vertical orientation. It also clamps the item flush with the bench/table surface. Craftsman also made a version of it. I use this thing on *every* project in my shop.

It works better the pipe vise that we all knifemakers learn on DYI while the Early days

A few years ago, I bought a pair of "Bench Vice Pads" that have V grooves molded in the rubber padding to make clamping some shapes easier. These might make a good upgrade to this vice too.

I've got both and use them extensively for pcb assembly. Rather than buy a base I printed a base that has articulating arms made from loc-line as helping hands

2:28 I see those threads as an opportunity to mount the whole thing down to a predetermined threaded metal table or a wood table with threaded inserts. Just screw it down form the top into the table and eliminate the slippy for more "heavier" use. Timeing the threads to the table however might be the challenge.

The threaded holes are for canting.

What panavise would you recommend for wood carving small items like smoke pipes and fishing lures?

Buy $20 harbor freight ball vise, and put 4 screws on the sides on the base. Same thing, much cheaper. Thanks
