Ohh man.. I could HEAR the difference.. even without tasting them. What I have always liked about Baby Ruth is it's TEXTURE...IT's Flakeyness. Now I'll just get a Snickers or a Pay Day... depending This IS a sad day to be sure.
The most annoying part isn't that the new recipe sucks... it's the fact that companies still try and tell us something is "better" and expect us to be like sheep and believe it as tho simply saying it makes it true.
You got that right... even if it was better, it sets folks up to fight against it. That said, I did this blinded to avoid that bias, and it's definitely much worse. Haha.
I just had one. On a scale from 1 to 10, its a 3. Its not the worst thing ever but the chocolate and the peanuts don't nearly mix as well. The previous one just blended so nicely and it didnt make you feel sick after you ate one. May I ask, where did you find the old Butterfinger.
Bought my last butterfinger today. Sad...….. Was like comparing Classic Coke to the New Coke. Cutting costs I guess, ruined a great product. Your folks in R & D are fired!
I never even considered that! Very good point. Similarly, I ordered a Butterfinger Blizzard without thinking two weeks ago and they filled it with this trash. In DQ's defense, I told them it tasted funny and they made me a Reese's Blizzard free of charge.
New one is fucking disgusting. I had no idea they had changed the recipe. I took one bite and started reading the packaging to make sure it wasn't years old. I saw "improved recipe", and now I'm here. Never again unless they bring the real deal back. I threw 3/4 of the bar away.
I tried the new butterfinger and it has too much crisp and peanut butter then chocolate. I am not saying it's bad,its good but they need to improve their butterfinger but they need to bring the old butterfinger back
Yes, it’s so sad they destroyed my candy bar, I thought this whole time I was eating stale ones, or from a “bad batch.” Now I see it’s their nasty recipe
New one is particle board with chocolate for taste. Saw dust compressed into a brick. It's like a vegan steak. I'll never buy this crap again. Bring the original back.
I did not know they had changed the recipe and today I was on my lunch and wanted a butterfinger. As soon as i took the first bite, I had to look at wrapper and wonder did they start making a diet fucking butterfinger. No, it a new recipe. So I decided to eat the whole thing and give it it's fair shake. I should not have. It is absolutely terrible. I had to brush my teeth twice and chew some gum after eating this, to remove the awful aftertaste. I will not only, not be buying a butterfinger again, I will also not be passing on a good recommendation to anyone who asks about this new candy bar, because clearly it is not a butterfinger. FERRARA YOU HAVE FAILED. I will also not be buying any of your other products, due to this act of treachery and betrayal.
The new butterfingers taste terrible. I bought all the original butterfingers from my grocery store and rationed them out I get 2 butterfingers a year for a little while now. The new ones dont taste smell or feel the same. I really hope they fix our butterfingers.
Those things go stale fast. Next year your butter fingers wont taste good. Will ruin your opinion on them through life as the years pass and you forget the fresh taste. Just eat them while they are fresh go at em monthly or something so the taste will remain perfect.
I hate the new butter finger. In my mouth it taste 100% like a diet coke. I get the texture your talking about and honestly I always loved a melted chocolate bar from the summer heat or even just my pocket heat. The texture in this is more air rated and watery than melted. So the new candy bar is smaller filled with air and taste bad. Real bad. Someone just screwed up that was my favorite candy in the world. I bought all the left over butter fingers in my town. Sorry to anyone missing out since I bought your share too....
Good assessment. My favorite candy bar has been ruined. I also agree with something else you said, I hadn't had one for a while and just the other day randomly thought "man! I could go for a butterfinger!" Then saw the packaging and had a horrible sinking feeling in my gut, and sure enough, my craving was not (and will never again be) fulfilled. I've now watched a couple of these new butterfinger videos and read some reddit/review stuff. Most people seemed bummed, even up in arms.
Yeah it's about a 90/10 spit for against/for the new formula. Surprised they haven't listened to all of that feedback yet, but there's always hope going forward.
The most important factor here is the removal of TBHQ = Butane. Yes, lighter fluid in Butterfinger, Reese’s and many things with peanut oil use this as a preservative.
That seems like a good reason to change the formula, but the taste of the new one is significantly worse, which is still a problem that needs to be addressed if they expect the brand to continue to thrive.
Consumer Time Capsule This is absolutely true. But as most of us know, these companies all have market research teams that keep track of the general republic’s response, and in time once enough people have spoken they will very likely have a “new improved” or “classic flavor” Butterfinger release at some point.
It’s much better. Softer and isn’t hurting my teeth. Hope they keep it. I was actually able to eat the whole bar. My mom said they taste like the real original kind before they changed it to the hard kind
But hurting/sticking to your teeth is what Butterfingers do. It's like making a Haribo gummy bear less chewy and calling it better. That was the experience. You can't radically change it and keep the name without folks being disappointed.
The same thing happened to choco Twizzlers, they decided to change the recipe by using Hershey's choco rather than the original choco that was in them and it completely wrecked the choco Twizzlers. Damn.
I remember that recipe change, but I never really got into the originals. Crazy to think that big companies continue to make missteps like that to this very day.
Just Me that’s why I’m a big fan of the butterfinger cups and butterfinger crisp. Still has that great butterfinger flavor, but it’s more creamy and enjoyable in my opinion
I don't know what it is but I love the chocolate around the original Butterfinger If they packaged and sold just original Butterfinger chocolate I'd be happy
I bought a case of these, and i noticed the taste difference before i noticed the different packaging. I don't think I like butterfingers anymore, the new ones aren't as good out of the freezer and are way harder. can barely bite through when frozen
Honestly, I really don't think that was the reason. I think Ferrero's ego got in the way and they felt that they could do it better... they were just wrong.
Agreed! Butterfinger is not the anymore. Actually tested the new one as I watched this video. Took the first bite... Nope definitely not better. Old butterfinger was my favorite but now it has a chemically bitter flavor. :(
Well, glad to provide a second opinion for you. It still boggles my mind when a few folks defend the change. This was a bad call and most people know it.
Tried the new Butterfinger for the first time since the recipe change and could tell right away it wasn't the same as I remembered. The inside is different and while I agree it is smoother it doesn't compare to the original. Put the other half in the fridge overnight and when I got it out just the feel of it made me think it was already melting, double checked my hands to be sure, very odd.
I like the old one better but not WAY better. I tried both and I think they were kind of similar to each other for me. Also, maybe the reason I thought I didn’t notice a huge difference between the two is because those were the first butterfingers I ever ate.
I'm thinking Ferrara did this on purpose to Spike demand for the original. Then when they bring it back... Sales will shoot up for the original. I seriously hope this is what they're doing cause this new Butterfinger is so bad. It's like almost suspiciously bad 🤔
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule man but how on Earth could these things have made it to the market otherwise?? 9 of 10 people can't stand the new one. So who was doing the taste tests?? What a huge mistake they made. I can't imagine they won't bring back the original recipe. I'm reminded of the mid 90's when they changed the recipe of otter pops in order to make them healthier... God I wish internet back then was where it is now so people could've complained more. The new recipe is SO fucking bad in comparison to original otter pops. People truly have no idea just what they're missing!!! I've wrote them multiple times and even offered to pay $1000 for a "private run" of otter pops with the original recipe. Sadly they said no... I don't understand what's so hard about having BOTH recipes when it comes to any product??? Like wtf?? Have both so the consumer can fucking decide!! This shit really pisses me off!
I think the main disconnect is that Ferrero considers the ingredients to be "higher quality" and they don't want to revert back to the "lower quality" product that they replaced, even if it tastes better (which it absolutely does). I just can't figure out why they'd spend a billion dollars on the brand or whatever, just to alienate the folks that enjoyed it and bought it on a regular basis. They could have just made their own knockoff product and marketed it really hard with all that money they would have saved.
Just bought a butterfinger today and got a mouth load of what tastes like peanut butter absolutely disgusting. I don't think I will ever buy again. If I wanted a peanut butter sand which I would've went home an made one or just simply ate some peanuts..
HUGE mistake, HUGE!!!!! I tried it today couldn't finish it because it was so awful, l ended up throwing it in the garbage what a waste of money. I also called the company to complain about it. SIMPLY DISGUSTING!!!!
Just ate a new one. The new version seems a lot thicker than the old one. It seems more chewy and harder to eat. I do think the chocolate is better IMO though. Old Butterfingers had waxy, low quality chocolate. New one is better. But, I don't think new one is better or worse overall though. I rather eat a Zagnut or 5th Avenue bar though.
That waxy chocolate is what made it so perfect!! The new chocolate gets dissolved in my saliva. Almost instantly leaving no chocolate flavor left and only the insides tasting like a Diet Coke. The old Chocolate the did not go away so fast and the flavor would mix with the orange awesome stuff that sticks to your teeth. Giving it the amazing orange and chocolate mixture oh just so perfect. By the way that high fructose corn syrup making up the old chocolate I can tell by how long it takes my saliva to break it down. The corn stuff can sit in my mouth a while. And normal sugar is gone almost as fast as I put it in my mouth.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule Yeah I agree. I just feel like now it tastes like every other peanut butter chocolate bar. It was so good when it was the original. Maybe they could have made it less dry but I wish the change wasnt so drastic. Butterfingers has officially been taken off my list of top 3 favorite candy bars 😭
Seemed like it was on everyone's favorites list until they changed it. Seems strange to pay so much to acquire a brand, only to completely change everything about it.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule Exactly! The amount of people who hate the change compared to those who like it is unbelievable. Hardly anyone has said they like the new recipe. I think they should change it back!
I think that they'll bring it back in some form eventually, even if they keep the current formula on the market. I'm kinda surprised that it's taken this long, though.
Really upset about the change. The new recipe has nothing unique about it and tastes bland compared to the old one. The old recipe had better texture too...more crunchy and less flaky. I hope they reconsider the change.
IMO it's not that different from the old one, well not enough for me to disregard it completely. Its not technically "improved" but it isnt too shabby either. I could get use to this newer one if I have to.

I totally agree with this review. The new one breaks down way too quickly into a mushy melted mess and the chocolate totally covers up the peanut-buttery flavor. I'm so sad. Butterfinger was my favorite.

The new Butterfinger sucks it used to be my go to candy bar but no more!
I totally understand.
Ohh man.. I could HEAR the difference.. even without tasting them. What I have always liked about Baby Ruth is it's TEXTURE...IT's Flakeyness.
Now I'll just get a Snickers or a Pay Day... depending
This IS a sad day to be sure.
Haha.
Seriously don't like the new at all. Have always loved the original Butterfingers. Won't even buy the new ones. They don't taste very good at all
I have always been a big fan as well. Seems like nearly everyone agrees with us about the new formula.
AMEN!!! You said exactly what I said when I tried the new one! They RUINED IT!!!
It was pretty clear. Just a horrible call on their part.
Butterfinger Classic coming 2020.
Fingers Crossed.
How about 20NOW!!!!
@@praise777always9 ya they already have the recipe they just messed it up. just use the old copy.
@@evadunn928 Yeah!!!
At the time, they were everywhere. This is a pretty old review.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule Yeah, I know. My cousin in Europe can find them there but nowadays, its only the new one.
it tastes like a resses crispy cruchy without the resses peanut butter
...but worse.
Bought my last butterfinger today. Sad...….. Was like comparing Classic Coke to the New Coke. Cutting costs I guess, ruined a great product. Your folks in R & D are fired!
You might want to keep your eyes peeled for the old Nestle ones. I still see them at plenty of places. Once they're gone, we're really out of luck.
They f up the ice cream too. It’s has a massive amount of peanut butter in it
I never even considered that!
That's a pretty common reaction. It's going to catch up with them eventually, and it'll be interesting to see what happens.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule Fingers crossed...
I tried the new butterfinger and it has too much crisp and peanut butter then chocolate. I am not saying it's bad,its good but they need to improve their butterfinger but they need to bring the old butterfinger back
Yeah, they didn't need to change it if they wanted a good Butterfinger out there.
Exactly
If I ever win the Powerball, I'm going to buy the Butterfinger rights from Ferrara and release the original recipe to the world.
I'm rooting for you!
I will also do this!
Yes, it’s so sad they destroyed my candy bar, I thought this whole time I was eating stale ones, or from a “bad batch.” Now I see it’s their nasty recipe
All of the batches are bad now. Haha.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule I wish i could have a Butterfinger!!
Old Butterfinger is way better. Don't mess with Hershey bar!
Even Ferrero doesn't have deep enough pockets to take over the Hershey brands. I think your bar is safe.
New one is particle board with chocolate for taste. Saw dust compressed into a brick. It's like a vegan steak. I'll never buy this crap again. Bring the original back.
That's all true, but I think the chocolate on the new bar is the worst part.
The Butterfinger has been ruined. Bring back the old recipe!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really has. Still have my fingers crossed for the old one to come back.
You got that right.
The new butterfingers taste terrible. I bought all the original butterfingers from my grocery store and rationed them out I get 2 butterfingers a year for a little while now. The new ones dont taste smell or feel the same. I really hope they fix our butterfingers.
Those things are going to be worth their weight in gold if they don't undo this horrible mistake. I guess we'll see.
They had their chance to buy it up first and you caught them sleeping. Enjoy the last of the classic recipe, cause this new one is a disaster.
Folks call and let them know how disgusting it is
I wonder how many folks have been calling, because it's pretty clear that there aren't many fans of the new recipe.
I'm from the UK and we only have the new recipe here, so I have no idea what the old one tastes like and now I'm curious
You really missed out, then. It was an all-time classic.
It sucks.
The new one is bad. I miss the old recipe
Right there with ya, Jessica.
WHY NESTLÉ, WHY!? 😭
Well, they sold the brand/recipe, so it's only partially Nestle's fault.
Yeah, you're right.
They should do a reverse butterfinger with pb coating and chocolate crunch. Maybe a core of creamy PB inside it.
This is SUCH a great idea. I'm all in.
They did exactly that with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups several years back.
Right I stopped eating them as a kid because they got stuck to the roof of my teeth.if they were chewy I’d buy a whole pack
Just Me that’s why I’m a big fan of the butterfinger cups and butterfinger crisp. Still has that great butterfinger flavor, but it’s more creamy and enjoyable in my opinion
*GASP*
So they pulled a New Coke.
Essentially, but they really seem to be sticking to their guns so far.
Taste like Diet Coke to me.
The new one is nasty I will never buy a butterfinger again.
Start grabbing up those Nestle ones, before it's too late.
They destroyed my favorite candy there is no other reason to live other than almond joy
I have always preferred Almond Joy to Butterfinger anyway.
I'm eating a nestle Butterfinger in 2019 while I watch this video
A reminder of a simpler, better time.
Nestle sold out now the Butterfinger will go extinct
They spent WAYYYY too much to let that happen. We'll see the old formula return before they kill the brand entirely.
Let's hope so because these new ones are far from as good as the old ones
I don't know what it is but I love the chocolate around the original Butterfinger If they packaged and sold just original Butterfinger chocolate I'd be happy
The original chocolate they used was significantly better, despite the marketing campaign claiming otherwise.
I bought a case of these, and i noticed the taste difference before i noticed the different packaging. I don't think I like butterfingers anymore, the new ones aren't as good out of the freezer and are way harder. can barely bite through when frozen
I'm so glad I didn't end up being stuck with a case of these! That's terrible.
They change the ingredients so they could make it cheaper for more profit. I hate it, and will never eat one again.
Honestly, I really don't think that was the reason. I think Ferrero's ego got in the way and they felt that they could do it better... they were just wrong.
I actually prefer the new Butterfinger, it taste like it actually has peanut butter in it
My issue was less with the peanut butter and more with the chocolate. Either way, I'm glad you like the new one.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule thanks man, great video 👍
See, folks CAN disagree about what tastes better and still get along! Haha. Good to chat with you, Byron.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule Lol yes absolutely! You as well
Absolutely a disappointment not an improvement. I see butterfinger new and improved disappearing if they stick with the new recipe. Too Bad- So Sad.
I doubt it will disappear entirely, but it will certainly slip in sales/popularity after everyone tries the new one.
I can't even finish the bar now. Never buying again. 🗑️🚮
Can't say I blame you on that one.
The new "improved" recipe ruined my favorite candy bar. Just doesn't satisfy anymore.
Very true.
I like the old one better but not WAY better. I tried both and I think they were kind of similar to each other for me. Also, maybe the reason I thought I didn’t notice a huge difference between the two is because those were the first butterfingers I ever ate.
Yeah, I think having an existing relationship with Butterfinger makes it all the more heartbreaking.
The new butterfinger is worse. Who changes the taste of a candy legend? 🤬
Yeah, even if they did make it better (which they certainly didn't), just make it a bar with a different name and keep the old one going.
I'm thinking Ferrara did this on purpose to Spike demand for the original. Then when they bring it back... Sales will shoot up for the original. I seriously hope this is what they're doing cause this new Butterfinger is so bad. It's like almost suspiciously bad 🤔
That was my initial theory, but it's been quite a while and no signs of a reboot of the classic. Not sure what to make of all this.
I'd far prefer a peanut butter sandwich over the new Butterfinger, though. Haha.
HUGE mistake, HUGE!!!!! I tried it today couldn't finish it because it was so awful, l ended up throwing it in the garbage what a waste of money. I also called the company to complain about it. SIMPLY DISGUSTING!!!!
I'm sure they're inundated with calls and messages right now. The new one is trash.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule Agree!!!!!!!
The star of the old one was the crispy peanut butter center. It's just a shame that the new one seems to want the spotlight on the chocolate.
Dave...you like the new recipe?????? I think that you need help man...
I like the new flakier inside.
Stocking up on old ones... I hope ferreo wises up for changing the recipe..... Its not nasty... But compared to the original it is nasty.
Yeah, a lot places are sold out of the old ones at this point. I think a bunch of folks did the same thing.
The new one has more peanut butter, but I personally like the old one because it was more unique and you couldn't find any other candy bars like that
A lot of folks say that about the peanut butter, but I felt that the chocolate was so terrible that it overshadowed the peanut butter flavor.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule
Yeah I agree.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule
Exactly! The amount of people who hate the change compared to those who like it is unbelievable. Hardly anyone has said they like the new recipe. I think they should change it back!
I think that they'll bring it back in some form eventually, even if they keep the current formula on the market. I'm kinda surprised that it's taken this long, though.
Totally agree! Don't lay a finger on our Butterfinger!
Too late for that now, unfortunately. Hopefully they change it back before too awfully long.
Great... They laid a finger on my Butterfinger.
They sure did. What a bummer.
Bring back PB Crisps! And Better Butterfinger!
If they bring back PB Crisps and change it, I don't know if I'll have the strength to go on.
Great video. why mess with perfection? butterfinger is my all time fave candy bar. Why they “improved” it ...😳
Not sure how they justify it, but they certainly seem dedicated to keeping this crappy new recipe on the shelves.
Really upset about the change. The new recipe has nothing unique about it and tastes bland compared to the old one. The old recipe had better texture too...more crunchy and less flaky. I hope they reconsider the change.
Couldn't agree more.
IMO it's not that different from the old one, well not enough for me to disregard it completely. Its not technically "improved" but it isnt too shabby either. I could get use to this newer one if I have to.
You might want to try them one after the other. The difference is much larger than I would have ever expected.
@@ConsumerTimeCapsule Ok I'll see if I can find the OG and get back to you. I'm afraid I will notice the difference and it's gonna ruin the newer ones for me 😂
I feel your pain, man.
I had them back to back and I feel the same. There's not nearly the difference that everyone is making it out to have. I'm not saying the new one's better, but they are similar enough that I'll still eat the new ones
I totally agree with this review. The new one breaks down way too quickly into a mushy melted mess and the chocolate totally covers up the peanut-buttery flavor. I'm so sad. Butterfinger was my favorite.
