I love the old chips ahoy & I've been on a kick where I've been eating them every day and then I got a batch and I was like what is wrong with these cookies they taste stale or somethings wrong with them. Then I bought more at a different store and was wondering why those ones also taste like garbage ...then I saw that they changed the recipe! These new ones taste like they are freeze dried or something like that ...the old ones they didn't! So disappointed and I'm surprised that you couldn't tell the difference! I love that you did the blindfold and everything. That's really awesome!

I used to like them a lot, but it seemed like over the years, the texture and overall quality had changed. When I buy them, it’s not really a consistent quality. Sometimes delicious, sometimes, meh; just kind of hit and miss in my experience.

I was thinking Crunch bar which used to be my favorite chocolate bar but after Ferro took over Nestle the chocolate isn't as yummy and it seem to have less crisps in it too. And that is the same with butter finger the chocolate is not good quality now and the crunch inside is harder. So at least these taste the same or very similar if not the exact same .
I feel the same way you do about the Nestle Crunch bar. I didn’t think about the manufacturer changing it. That explains why I don’t like them anymore.

I've been mad at Chips Ahoy ever since they ruined their chewy cookie recipe (FYI for anyone also missing them, I've found that the Pepperide Farm chocolate chip Montauk cookies are extremely close to the old school Chewy Chips Ahoy in taste and they're amazing)! I notice the shrinkflation the most with chips. especially doritos or any chip that has a seasoning on it. the bags are always halfway full and you've got a 50% chance of getting a bad with barely any flavor or seasonings on it

I’ve stopped eating Chip Ahoy cookies for several years now because I’ve noticed that they no longer have that chocolate taste like they used to have. Now they taste like you’re eating plain dough
From what I found in a news article, the chocolate contains a higher content of cacao and the vanilla is now sourced primarily from Madagascar. So basically it really wouldn't change the taste because it's still vanilla (does the country really make a difference in flavor?) and cacao is unroasted cacao beans, while cocoa is cacao beans that have been roasted. All that = negligible difference.
If the sugar went down and the protein went up, I’m lead to believe that they actually reduced the number of chocolate chips and added more protein to the base of the cookie. When Kevin showed the bottoms the newer recipe cookies had slightly lighter coloring. Interesting..but I’ll pass on these lol

Well now I’m wondering… I bought sone chips ahoy cookies about 2 weeks ago…. I actually thought they tasted a little different… I thought they were less dense and crispier… more airy… but since I almost always buy the Aldi’s brand I just figured I was imagining it… as far as I’m concerned if you didn’t notice in a blind, side by side taste test… I wouldn’t notice or care at all… and yes tami I’m sure this improved their bottom more than their cookie

Okay. I came here to see if someone else thought this was different. They definitely changed this recipe. These were my favorite cookie brand. Now these taste off. Like to me, it tastes like that tiny cookie cereal. Went and bought my normal grocery with my chips ahoy, didn’t see the new recipe advertised on this. One bite and instantly knew something was wrong.
The new chips ahoy's are frighteningly awful, I didn't realize I bought the new kind, ate one and thought I was catching a cold, the taste was very muted and kind of plainly gross, ate another and was sure something was wrong with me, then my wife told me the one's I bought were some new kind.

Someone should compared the cookie count of the previous packaging to the recent ones that don't the laminated shine on them with a more wax paper texture. I feel like either the weight has changed by a few grams, or Nabisco is using a different tray design to hold the cookies.
