I was actually looking for metal detector instructions but once you started talking something told me to sit down, be quiet and listen. im glad I did . thank you for the video.
Thank you sir!! Very educational video!! It's a blessing to have a seasoned gentleman share his years of experience!! All the best HH!!
Another great place to detect is beneath old clotheslines. Yes, there are some of the metals from clothespins, but coins fell from pockets, too. Feel above the door jam over & inside the closet beneath the stairway, or in bedroom closets built after the turn of the century. They would build convenient empty trays above the doors. I actually found a "girley" mag inside one of them in an old house. :) Thank you Mr. Garrett. A delightful tour of this Victorian home.
Jerry, what a wealth of knowledge you have, thank you for sharing :)
Thanks Sir . This was a great detecting video without a detector in use. It changes how I view things now! Great tips.
Well presented and very informative....This gentleman has done an Outstanding Job!!!!
It was a pleasure listening to you Sir!!
Fascinating! Thank you for the detailed video. Love thinking about the good old days.
I have learned so much watching this video! Things I never would have thought of! I am so excited to get my hands on an old property to detect at! Thank you!!!
Wow, an awesome video, sucked me right in. I am always willing to learn the ropes of professional hunting. This was a 10 in rank for detecting videos. Thanks for sharing these secrets with us.
We don't have too many homes like that here on Long Island but I enjoyed that tour. Thanks and you did a great job. you're the type a guy a anyone would love as a neighbor.
Love this guy! He was wonderful.
Tip, look for the area where the "old out house was located" they would lose
coins from their pockets while their pants were down.
Our Queen Anne Victorian was built in 1855. We have dug up and/or found many fun and exciting things around "this old house"!
Not sure why I really enjoy watching videos of older men and women explaining things than I do any other age hmm. Maybe I just think well this person has decades of experience , teach me show me let me be your student ( in my nerdy voice lol)
Great, loud speaker! Easy to listen to and even a joy. What a beautiful house!
Happy hunting!!!
Thank you for making this video. Really enjoyed watching.
Thanks for the history lesson. The home looks very nice for 1882. Good video! I love history, and historic sites are great to search. Preserving history is of great importance to everyone.

The info about the tree is amazing!
Thanks for the great info. Old timers have such great insight into things. I hope you make a few more of these videos because this one is great : " ) ....
Great video enjoyed it a lot. Basement, and false sections in closets, oh and don't forget containers buried in the yard. Thanks enjoyed this video
Really enjoyed the video and i really hope that you guys make another one!
Loved this video and the gentleman was so helpful with all those tips. Have a house in our field that's over 100 years old. Although not victorian, the original owners were of the wealthier ones and I will certainly put those tips to use. The lady of the house was known to drink and have fits at times, and had a chicken business and was very stingy with her money. Maybe she buried or his some of it, and forgot where she put it.
Very imformative....oh and I liked the cat following you.
Interesting video good to know thanks for sharing
very good video!!
Good Job..your right on all of this..thanks
Just ordered a detector. I live in a 100yr old 6 bedroom villa with a huge wooden verandah . Cant wait to get under there. Lots of nooks and crannies.

How very interesting!! THANK YOU for sharing!~
very nice thanks
nice vidio,thank you
note that the square curb method does not apply everywhere. In california, where I live, it's still the go-to curbing used, with new sidewalks etc being build this way quite often.
nice vid ! btw, How about Gran ma? My granny hid valuables in the lining of clothes and shoe / hat boxes ! : )
I just tore mywhole house apart after watching this video, I found a 1996 pennie and mouse poop.. my house is destroyed.
Thanks for the good words sir thumbs up!!
also noticed where you said there may have been a tree, the fence behind you was bent down indicating a tree branch fell.good eye
When I was 9, I found 6 $20 silver certificates wrapped inside about 12 different types of paper inside a fruit jar placed inside a dutch oven buried under the sawdust beneath a pile of crate lids in the attic of a potato house on a farm my parents bought from my great aunt years after her husband died. Should have never shown them to my mom, never saw them again.
my whole town has curbs like that, i go all over town hunting, the sidewalk to the curb.i find lots of silver,ih's,buffalo's,barber's,ect...
thank you
The parlor was usually the fanciest room in the house often only used for special occasions.
under old windows sashes under door sill plates base board
3 + people can't find silver ! I've watched a few Garrett Detectors videos... Some of the guys you have working for you are freaking Idiots. This guy is different, he is a genius and I'd love to talk to him, but will likely never happen. So I'm blessed to watch this informative educational video! Thanks Garrett PS I bought an AT Pro and LOVE It, I find a good deal and would love to make videos with/for you guys, having film making experience and detect experience. I think you would be pleased.
good info.good vid
they rise and fall with the seasons....thats why out in the middle of the woods you can find a coin from the 1800s just an inch down.........
LOL!
I have the Flextrex 37,000,000,000 VIP Whipsnake metal detector, it has an Old house setting on it.
My granddaddy kept his $$ in a tin can under the floorboards of his house. My father told me that this money (paper) would smell really musty after a while and some people would smell the money after he used it to pay for something.
The only roud to the town next to ours went through our property so I hope to make some cool finds.
Great vid - now all I have to do is find someones Victorian mansion to pull apart
I have watched loads of metal detecting videos now and it looks like a cool hobby so I think I will get me one. I have loads of land around where I live that could be holding treasures. Just the other side of my garden fence lies a Roman Fort. It's a raised area of land thats about 40x40 meters and 2 meters high with a moat round it which you can clearly see on Google Earth. These are the coordinates to the center of it 51degrees56'29.28"North 0degrees14'01.32"West. Just to the north is a 700 year old church with a graveyard. I cant do any detecting on the graveyard but around it will be ok. I just cant wait to see if I can unearth some treasures like the Staffordshire hoard where some guy found Saxon gold worth £3 Million or about $5.5 Million. Can some one tell me what detector I should get as a beginner? I dont want one that is for a beginner but is user friendly. Thanx fellow detectors.
Or a friend, relative, co-worker, etc. may have an old property and would be willing to let one have a go at it. I don't own a Victorian yet (or even a metal detector for that manner), but I keep my options open. The main thing is to have a positive attitude. Happy hunting!
artifacts working there way back up through the soil??!
never heard that before.
great video, I added it to my site, you can google it 'Geo Detecting Treasure'. I just hate hunting out on curbs, feels like everyone is watching me.
i have had problems detecting close to sidewalks due to rebar within the walk. do you have any helpful suggestions in regards to this problem?
Ive never seen it happen here in the uk.
Mind you we dont get that much serious frost.
Only frikken rain lol.
how do you find these old homes :P
I don't have an old house setting on my detector!
You could also find a dead body! :( lol! Nice home but creepy as well. Would be a good setting for a haunted house theme movie. GET OUT!! :) LOL!
is that house in dublin texas? it looks familiar.
All I found was someone's cremated remains buried in my yard. I buried them down deeper.
lol ...through freezes and heat, rain, etc....coins and smalls don't go too far down unless buried several feet...
i think that the farmers plough does that mate.
I wonder who would vacate an old home like this one? Doesn't make much sense to me? Excuse me may I look for treasures in your old home?? Not likely....
Why are stones comming up through the soil on a farmers field? (And it's a FACT that they do). I've been told that ice forms under the stone forcing it up - millimeters at a time. Now, IF that is true could the same happen to artifacts?
I was terrified he was going to knock that painting off the wall.
and now kids all you gotta do is get your self a metal detector and a 300,000 dollar ,125 year old and youll be set , other wise most times the people that own these of properties will tell you and your metal detector to get the f#$k off there property
So if you got no history you have to hunt horseshoes...hahaha!!
Thats the thing though.I dont really care for 1800 coins.
i toss them in the hedge lol.
all the saxon/roman i like to dig are deep down.
the only thing that brings it up is the farmers plough.
ive never heard of coins working there way back up through the soil.
only sinking down.
I wish I had a maid.
A pretty one.
:)
I found the treasure!! It's all around your waist!.
back in his prime he was a professional thief!
