Few good restorer coy's here in South Africa that do a super nut and bolt rebuild on them for clients all over the world. Google Pon Steyn 4x4 and Karoo2point25 in RSA... Quite a eye opener...

You missed the beginning. I had a 1938 Rover 14 which had a unique engine - a mix of the 14, 16 and 20 engine. When I rebuilt it in 1963 I was told it was one of 9 engines developed for the Land Rover before the war. There was also a Rover racing car-which used the same engine

They're two main runners in the competition one was a vehicle by an Irish man and the other was rover. The competition was win by the rover even dough the other vehicle was seen to be a better vehicle. So why did the DOD go with the Rover and not the other vehicle. This actually occurred during the second world war and to the end of the war. A number of examples were actually built and used before the end of war by the British forces. Growing up this was also shown that the land rover was used during the war. Even by the SAS.. this was widely documented with film footage at the time by DOD and later showed on British TV in a documentary on the land rover. Because I had watched the documentary when it was showed back in the late seventies or early eighties, I always liked the land rover to me it was a great vehicle many examples were used here in Ireland by farmers and off roaders alike with all generations of the vehicle been used the Defence Forces of Ireland used them with a small number still been used today. We all like the old land rover and its going to take time to get used to the new vehicles types.
