    Beautiful non-damaging green-laning enjoying the scenery. Classic Landies are awesome. The most inspiring part however was that view of the inside of the cockpit, Red Lever in 4-Low whilst climbing, towards the end

    Hell, takes me back a bit. I recall in 1971 [I think] before I took a Commission, I was Driver/Operator for my 3 Field Sqn OC and went with him to reccie a route around Cass. We crossed the Cass River, found what we had to and then returned to base. Later I lead out the Battalion convoy over the route we had previously reccied. When we came to the river, I entered square, turned the wheels up-stream and gunned the engine. I sailed on across the river with virtually no water getting into the cab. BUT, on the opposite side, I looked back to see all the Bn vehicles stuck in the bloody river; most had hydro-locked. Another occasion on the same exercise, we came to a rather steep side of a ravine. The OC said that we better backtrack and find an alternative route down - but I said the Rover would easily go down that slope. He looked at me and said, "I'll get out an walk!" Needless to say, the Rover went down with no problem at all. I loved that old Landrover Short wheelbase. Too thirsty to own one privately though.

    Nice video. Is the red one a 202 holden? We had one years ago with a Nissan LD28 and a fairly overdrive unit. Chap from Arrowtown bought it (3.5k from memory, oh how times have changed) Series 2a, rag top and it was painted in Desert Sand colour. (I’ve still got half a tin of the old paint in the shed) Was a bit of fun. Shouldn’t have got rid of the old girl.

    Something for you to follow up on - via TH-cam - video heading "Hundreds of Range Rovers left in middle of nowhere" author Imstokze (12.45 mins) - you will need a box of tissues.
    Question of the vehicles shown, how many are x NZ Army?

    • @danielfoster1956
      @danielfoster1956 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard to know, the NZ army had very very few 86 or 88" series 1s, most were 80s that did them until the early 70s when they were replaced and sold. The majority of 80s were 52 or 53, only a few 51s. On the trip were a handful on ex army 80s, I didn't count, maybe 3 including my 51?
