A most unassuming-looking man, sat there looking like he's juggling a ferret, and yet producing a music of such raw and human power, that runs deep and dark down your spine and spills out of the pores of your skin. Wow.
Best laugh I had in a while 😂. Juggling a ferret is such an accurate and eloquent way of describing the visual of someone playing the concertina. Wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment, though. Cormac Begley is amazing
I think we might be witnessing the evolution of the concertina as an instrument in trad. I've never heard it played like this, and I could name some good players. You get players who bring an instrument to the next level, like Mary Bergin on the whistle. This is it lads. We've living in a golden age of trad.
He plays it like that all the time lol, I've had a few sessions with Cornac and it's just great playing with him and the Begley family. He's awesome on it though and it really suits my style of Bodhran playing, I'm often the only Bodhran player in Dingle.. I just love listening to him.. the whole family are great as well. A great family of musicians. I've never heard anyone play it quite like Cormac..
Great comment even if I'm envious I posted near identical elsewhere! Yeah! Truly immense. 'White replacement' 'Irish a minority' horseshit - our great New Irish are embracing everything Irish.
Dònal Brügge. To each his own. Seems the audience appreciates his style, no? Besides, if u are complimentary, maybe his beautiful sister mite give u a second look. If u could b so lucky.
He broke tree of em in New Zealand during Mam performance so yes, he likes it rough! www.rnz.co.nz/concert/programmes/upbeat/audio/2018736738/cormac-begley-addicted-to-the-concertina
@Dònal Brügge His drones would be no different that if it was played by a set of pipes or accompanied with an melodan or an accordian, so your wrong here, Personally i think his aggression really pushed home the songs emotions, by fuck it was incredible to listen to and the crownd thoroughly approved of it.
Wow, that was attention-getting. Being a pipe maker, I'm now foreseeing an industry of developing industrial strength high pressure concertinas, titanium alloy reeds that can be kept flexible enough to sound overblown like this without failing after 3 evenings in the pub, kevlar bellows fabric and such.

Nothing short of spectacular. True genius and it sounds like five instruments are being played. He is truly great. Best wishes William Irish Ways Radio Porgramme
This is one of my favourite musival performances on TH-cam. Big thanks to the Summer School for recording and ITMA for sharing. If I could give advice or request: The balance of the microphones is slightly off, the right hand is favoured by a great deal. It would be great if you could check these levels before recording or correct them in post. Also, the stereo image is not wide enough to give a true impression of the literal breadth of sound a concertina produces. It would be lovely to have things widened a little to reflect this (and please wth the highs on the right channel and lows on the left)! Again many many thanks for this video. I will cherish it for as long as TH-cam hosts it.
It's actually poxy how this only has 2 thousand views and the amount of shite on TH-cam with more than 50 thousand views... real trad music such as the stuff cormac produces is so underappreciated. Keep it sexy.
Totally agree....Amazing how many go into raptures on someone playing Hornpipes and reels with no rhythm and wrong phrasing ....the difference between a Hornpipe and Reel - as an example, should be immediate and obvious, yet so many play one after the other so you can't tell where on ended and the other began, Jigs similar, so often played as a quasi reel....
Over 62,000 views now, two years after your comment! I posted a link to this video on Imgur about a year ago, about 80,000 people saw it so that may have helped. Perhaps people are coming around, I know Cormac’s music really blew my mind.
@@seandwyer1823 ...and then the ones that tell you 'ah no, but WE play it / learned it as a reel' but sure, who pays attention to the dancer telling them otherwise, right?
You see this all over the site. Some blonde American lassie with no sense of the tradition who wafts around in front of a nice view gets 100,000s of views, and some of the best hard-driving traditional fiddlers on these isles get perhaps 1000. I don't know if it's the algo or just that people have no taste. Probably a bit of both...
Hope that you can at least continue to enjoy our online traditional music, song, & dance videos! Check out Cormac's episode of Drawing from the Well on the jew's harp - a man of many musical talents! All available on ITMA TH-cam channel, so please subscribe. Thanks!
Wow, Cormac's playing in F minor here? I noticed Cormac uses F for "Joe Bane's" barndance on his "Na Fir Bolg" album. Can any concertina players tell me, is F a good key for Concertina? Edit: I talked to friends, they said it's because his concertinas are tuned in different non-standard keys.
Brilliant! Sadly, racist - 'great white replacement' Irish a minority - Ireland never more Irish. Our New Irish like the Vikings more Irish than the Irish enriching our small island,

This comment is so well worded. The way you describe it is so poetic.
Juggling a ferret, thank you for making me laugh! Also, your comment is such an excellent way of describing this video.
Best laugh I had in a while 😂. Juggling a ferret is such an accurate and eloquent way of describing the visual of someone playing the concertina.

He is just at another level, stunning , a master of his craft
Sorry Triona I'm a carpenter,a craftsman but I'm not fit to lace his boots. He is just a genius.🤪

You get players who bring an instrument to the next level, like Mary Bergin on the whistle. This is it lads. We've living in a golden age of trad.
I'd say he wears out some amount of them. It sounds like there's 3 or four playing at times.
He plays it like that all the time lol, I've had a few sessions with Cornac and it's just great playing with him and the Begley family. Great to be present listening to a legend. Unhealthy obsession listening to cormacs TH-cam clips😂
The Concertina has never never been played like this. This is true innovation in traditional music.

@Dònal Brügge that's just the surface, listen again and connect with the fire within
@Dònal Brügge why say it?
This is as good as Irish traditional music gets.
And there are so many different ways to be that good at this music.

You can get Cormac to test them as well 😁😁😁💪💪💪!
Playing it like
Don't forget the carbon fiber paddles for ultra fast reaction without sacrificing durability.
Considering your uilleann pipe chanter has held up to my ungraceful playing, I am sure you could be the man to patent such a contraption.
From Imgur today, and holy shite if it didn't send tingles down my spine.
Kinda blew my mind that so many people saw my post, and really thrilled that Cormac got some extra exposure. He’s incredibly good.
Powerful can feel the energy as the tune goes on.
By the end I was wondering if he might rip the concertina in half lol
@@phantom12321800 😂true haha
I was just thinking I like how the tune expands. 👌
He uses every thump clatter and bang as part of the music. So exciting absolutely brilliant.🎼😀🎼
The best ever Cormac amazing Tempo and Play ever thank you
How to maul a concertina and make it shout out for all its worth...excellent playing from a member of the wonderful Begley family...King Cormac!
For real this is my favorite performance of this instrument, damn!!

Thanks so much Brian!
A privilege to hear!
Amazing.
Further words fail me!!
mindblowing truly
Dayum, the thematic intensity builds and builds! Great player!
How could you not like this?
Sensational. Would make a great soundtrack to a movie, brilliant tension and edge to it, gets the heart racing.
Amazing playing. Just grabs you. That concertina must be made out of kevlar.
I'm dancing around the kitchen Cormac. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us.

Cormac ur the best enjoy while u can x
tears of joy!
outstanding
All the Power - all the Love!
I wish we could have him play at a Feis, our music sounds so dead and repetitive 😭
The muscle memory of this man can be summed up with my 16 years of education
Powerful!
Top man
I’ve not heard anything like this before. Holy shit
this guy is some player
Killer set! Wow!

This is fantastic amazing musician
WOW !!!
The jimi hendrix of West kerry
Wow. Wow. Wow.
This man is playing like he's got a chip on his shoulder, I'm feeling it
Brilliant by Cormac, but the real master of Irish Concertina came out at the end. Mr Noel Hill.
Great!!
Second tune is Roscommon Reel I think.
And the crowd ROARED!!
I just love this performance it’s brilliant.... I love how he moves and it gets me moving
I've watched this video at least 20 times, it's such a great jam. During COVID-19, I've really been missing Irish jam sessions!!!

Amazing ! Thanks ! Please, do you have more of his performance ?
That's playing with fire in your belly
Sometimes the music just grabs ye by the balls. The man is putting all of himself into this music. This is filthy (in a good way).
Right deadly
Fuckin killed it, where's the coroner? It's time to go to heaven my child
Holy. Effing. Christ. 🤘

I would put this song in Master and Commander 2
I train with thus music in the background my celtic blood's boiling

Phenomenal. Nothing is ever perfect in music but fuck me

mic drop.
Holy fuck.
Does anyone know where i can find this particular version of that tune? Id love to learn it on flute for my next trip to Dingle..
Hup!!
Those poor bellows!!!! (only kidding)
Correct. If the concertina was in Eb, then this tune would be in Fm, a step up from its normal key of Em.
Yes, but here his fingering on a usual GC concertina would give a- minor.
Holy fuck he is shredding that shit
What are you playing
Ta AN ceoil seo istigh ins Craoi
What are up to
Full time job tuning those reeds. Lol
Though he was going to take a sledge to the poor box
Punctuation diarrhea in the title 😂
