Just got the gen 3 single edge apocalyptic. The ball pocket clip is amazing, it doesn’t tear up your pocket but holds in in better than a normal clip. The torx hardware is a no brained to me. There is the slightest amount of blade play which is mildly irritating for a 450 dollar knife but not a deal breaker. I personally like the low profile glass breaker. It’s my first microtech so far I am pleased
Microtech has complete take apart videos available on TH-cam. Don't lose the springs.
I love the new begg ball clip and scale milling. It just looks more premium (sans that stupid billboarding). Great comparo bro!

I like the new clip I don’t like the smaller glass breaker
I have an older Combat Troodon and they made the handle nice and rounded off except right where your pointer and middle finger wrapped around, Two hard corners. So I'm happy to see the new one doesn't have that. Can't wait to see the gen 3 in different colors and blade shapes.

Only the pocket clip and glass breaker were improvements. The rest of the knife feels cheaper. The blade is not as wide. The action doesn't slam as hard. I like the previous gen better, honestly.
One thing I miss is actually the S/N off the units. I know for most of their knives its on the pocket clip which could be changed, but its kind of nice to see where its at number wise. 🤠👍
I agree. I was really bummed these weren't numbered.
I bought one on the 14th in DLT, I think Microtech made a mistake in not putting the S/N but comparing with the #2 there is an $86 difference and this one brings changes that improve it (for me the identification should go on the handle not on a clip )
The combat troodon gen 2 has the SN on the handle. It’s on the clip for the mini troodon tho
The gen-3 Troodon for me, it is sleeker, lighter, longer blade and has better action.

Love my Gen 2, just feels right in the hand. Powerful extend and retractable knife. Nothing wrong with the Gen 3. But, I'm good right now.
Looking forward to getting a Gen 3. Love my Gen 2 but looking forward to a newer version to compare it to, especially with some of the upgrades that it will come with.
You'll love the Gen3. I still love my Gen 2 as well. The Gen 3 is a different beast all together. Sleeker, lighter but not as "hardcore"
The 2 spring system is incredible - I love my Gen 3 and my Gen 2’s but the clip, action and overall look is more premium and a step above in my opinion. I love what Microtech is doing - reminds me of Rolex when they finally ditched the hollow and stamped bracelets which equate tone enormous step forward in the new pocket clips and the action!

I have the yellow blade with the Serrated half edge and it's SUPER sharp! I love the easier action and the yellow accents
But the clip is SUPER tight, takes effort to pocket it

Also, I'm not sure about those deep engraving of the logo, and the curve of the button : it was one of the thing that was comparable between the real and fake Microtech knives, and the "not deep" engraving was also feeling more premium

(And also I realized it the torx do not bother me this much : I completely forgot there are no 3-wings on the Glykon xD)
Hope there will be a Tactical Gen3 Troodon, because I have to admit I'm not good at rectracting the blade on mine xD And if it's so smooth with the new double spring train, I want one ! ^^
Somehow the Glykon is also smoother, but from what I've seen it doesn't use the new train, so idk why it's better

So what ? I was wearing all matter of auto knives 🔪 in NYC and never have gotten caught with them on me. Just nobody cared I guess. So there is nothing to worry about. Even if you do get caught with combat troodon it’s misdemeanour at most
I’m all in for the gen 3, too bad I spent my knife budget on a cleric 2. So gonna have to wait for bit 🤷🏻♂️

They should have launched with multiple colors and finishes. The black is boring with the stonewashed finish. Also no single edge blade on launch was a bad move.
Oh, other colors will come..Rest assured, if they can make money they will do it
@@edged_mindset For people in my position colors coming doesn't mean much because I've been ready to pull the trigger on a CT for a while and I don't think I want to just wait for microtech to release the gen 3 in the color and blade I want. I'm going to end up just buying the gen 2 tbh and many others will do the same.
I am still holding out hope for my black body bronze blade hellhound! 😁

My Gen 2 Combat and Hera 2 just arrived from NC Blade (look them up, they're the only company I buy from these days). As a Microtech collector (two Dirac Delta's, Combat troodon Gen 2 & 3, Hera 2, Socom Elite auto and various ultratechs , I honestly think the new designs are second to none and I'm not disappointed at all. However, I do still love the Gen 2 Combat for different reasons. I actually like the harder deploymentI, the big glass breaker (almost a weapon itself), the heavier design, it's just slightly more badass/ hard core and not for the weak IMO. However, the new deployment does feel silky smooth on both and I can't stress enough how sexy the Hera 2 is in person. The Hera 2 is really all I want to carry right now and may be Microtech's most beautiful design yet as it's a bigger, more robust version. Can't wait for different varieties of each!
ill be getting the new for the combat size and still getting a gen 2 in troodon size

I know blade play is minimal and non issue with these, but is there a difference between the two?
Foe these two they are the same, I.have heard other people.say that the new Cypher has a little more play than the previous generation, which is kind of a bummer
My Gen 2 and Gen 3 have exactly the same blade play. That is to say, minimal and hardly noticeable. @@edged_mindset
They could name the gen3 differently.... It's not a CT it's like a hera mixed with a makora or something.... Gen2 looks more "traditional"
