I wanted to take the Andes, but I took the Monteira. It is laminated and big ventilations. I don't like jackets with waterproof membrane that can be detached, the jacket will become wet and heavy and if you reach a Hotel, you make a mess and the humidity will end up inside the jacket. Plus you buy it to avoid to stop, if I have to stop to put the top waterproof jacket, at this point I just use my Tucano Nano. I still have to test the Monteira in rain and summer heat, it's brand new. Hope it will fullfill my requirements.
Well that’s funny as I’ve had my alpinestars andes 3 jacket and trousers eighteen months now and after many rainy days like today round the borders in pouring rain I’ve never had a probs getting wet and unlike my old RST suit it doesn’t get heavy with soaked outer fabric. The only problem I’ve had and I’m not that heavy 14 st is having to get xxl for a fit whereas my old RST I just used large.
It is always possible that Mike got a bad one - but it was brand new and did allow him to get completely soaked after a couple of hours in heavy rain. As you can tell, he was thoroughly unimpressed and has bought some second hand Rukka kit for this year’s tour.
A really wet day riding in stunning scenery, albeit in not the best of riding conditions. I'd be interested to hear whether @mikerichardson3452 has any further reflections on his Alpinestars Andes Tourer 3 Drystar jacket, and whether he's learned to live with it. This was a great trip though - shame about the weather.

For comparison, My jacket is Alpinestars Ketchum Gore-tex. Absolutely no complaints - keeps me dry in anything.
