    Hi TMF
    Really appreciate all the bike reviews. Thanks for putting all this together, it is an entertaining, helpful, insightful resource. Some reviews on other channels which have endless means are not a patch on your reviews. You answer the questions ordinary folks ask and many we wouldn't know to ask.
    Thank you.

    I tried the 2017, I'd been wanting to ride a 600 inline four for ages. I'm tall (6'3") and think it's the tightest fitting bike I've ever ridden; very high rear pegs, and I felt high up and forward (the R1 was an interesting contrast - much more comfy for my height).
    I loved the motor. Completely smooth and docile low down, I liked the fact I could rattle through gears around town, and then do an impression of a scalded cat on faster roads. Nice brake feel too.

      I was thinking about that this morning and wondered what there could possibly be out there I wouldn't like - for sure I like some bikes more than others but fundamentally all bikes are great aren't they?? ...and the new ones these days are in the main all excellent. I'll actively try and find something to not like...

    Not related to this video but I was at the local BMW dealer yesterday and was looking at R-Nine T Racer. Now there is a retro bike a finally like. From the bottom of the tank and seat up it reminds me so much of the original bevel drive Ducati 750 and 900 Super Sports. Any chance of a test on one of these.

      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ....it happens to all of us! I'm actually a fan of some electronics (ABS and traction control in particular - the rest not so much)...but there is something to be said for the "old school" motorcycle like this.....

    • @triv7252
      @triv7252 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ABS absolutely and I think traction control to some extent. When I see rider modes and ride by wire, I think yeah great for the cruise control but I'm just going to find a mode I like (usually the most lively one) and leave it in that setting for however long I own the bike.

    After commuting in heavy California traffic for over a year on a 600cc supersport bike, I can't wait to switch to a more comfortable bike like a BMW r1200rs with glorious heated grips and quickshifter. The 600cc 4 cylinder class is amazing to ride no doubt and gets me moving unreasonably fast that sometimes I too have to put sticky notes on the speedo :]

    Another review. Wow. You're smashing them at the moment.
    Great little bike. Too small for me. I'm 6ft plus so. The power is in the wrong place too. Especially for the road. 750cc or a litre sports for the road for me. I like to access the power from low right through the range. I'm a bit lazy. Still would enjoy a blast on one but not to buy. I would add it looks dated these days.
    Cheers boss.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Sleepingdragon1 ....and you are right of course, if you're buying a bike for the road then I too would rather the spread of power was from the bottom and mid ranges, where you really use it - these sort of sports bikes are definitely best suited to the track. All the best as ever and thanks for sticking with me! - TMF

  • @TheDervMan

    You're knocking these reviews at quite a rate these days TMF. Nice work. Personally not my thing and there's no way I'd buy a bike without ABS, no matter how good people think they are at riding you will always panic break if spooked, unless you're well practised in the art (police bikers etc). I'm under no illusion about my biking abilities so bring on all the electronic safety aids please 👍🏻😬

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm with you on that - I don't like the fact my Street Triple and CRF don't have ABS, I think it's a marvellous thing for bikes to have....I too have no innate biking ability so I'll take all the help (electronic or otherwise) I can get!

    Did not expect to see you test riding that bike but it was interesting and well done as always. Wonderful sound and will be interested in hearing how it compares with the newest model when you have a chance to ride it. Oh, by the way, in preparation for my trip to North Carolina in May to ride the Tail of the Dragon, I'm about to get a new exhaust and auto blipper for downshifts installed on the Tuono. Once that's done I'll let you know if I think it's worth the cost! Just replaced the Pirelli Diablo Rosso III's with same tires after 5k miles, rear was down to wear bars but front probably had another 1k left in them. Love these tires, good in the rain too. Bought the Tuono last August and now have 8,400 miles on the clock, just a wonderful machine!

    Hi! Would you perhaps be doing a review on the 2017 Yamaha R6 any time soon? And also, could you perhaps do a comparison with the 2017 Suzuki GSX-R600? Should be an interesting comparison!

      True, but it is the physical position of high pegs, very bent knees and the weight on the Wrists that is not good for us oldies.

      Not in my opinion - far too powerful for a newbie, better to start with something a little less aggressive to learn your craft me thinks...

    another enjoyable upload, I'm hoping we will see you test a few more sports bikes. I noticed you still use the clutch changing up... Did you do any clutchless shifting out of interest and of no criticism.
    lovely looking bike that R6 in blue

      Hi Glen, no I didn't try any clutch less shifting, I'm far too much of a mechanical clutz to be able to do that smoothly without a quick shifter installed :0(

      Indeed - a lot of money for a 600 but it does look pretty cool, and there are plenty of people who just buy stuff 'cos they look good (ergo me and my 899!!)

  • @rowlandstraylight

    The colour is Race Blue I believe. Been out on a 98 R1 which was similarly without rider aids and found the ride incredibly soft and compliant, moreso than legendary mile munchers like the vfr. I think there is a trap of making bikes stiff to feel sporty. I suspect the stock setup is quite progressive which is more suited for varying conditions and rider weights, whereas more linear springs tend to make for more predictable behavior at the edge of the performance envelope but have a much more narrow range of operating conditions and rider weights.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually someone mentioned it was "Race Blu" - which obviously sounds much more exotic! Gotta love marketing types eh? ;0) ...and yes I think you're right, the suspension on this was surprisingly comfy and has made me think I may need to take the screwdrivers to my 899 to calm that down a little....

    • @rowlandstraylight
      @rowlandstraylight 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMissendenFlyer, yep Blu is more exotic than Blue, and in a different league to Bloo...
      The damping needs to match the spring rates, which you can't adjust without disassembling the forks and either swapping dogbones and bellcrank or replacing the coil over the rear damper. Underdamped may feel more vague and more pogoey than the R6/R1 setups. Adjusting preload is pure ride height at the front, and either pure ride height or works in the opposite to intuitive manner at the rear if you have a rising rate dogbone and bellcrank linkage, as the higher the rear the lower the rate.
      I would suggest finding a bike suspension setup service near you, explaining and exploring your options. I have the formal studies here, but not the extensive product knowledge of a good motorcycle suspension technician.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I know it is somewhat of a black art, but I bought a bike with adjustable suspension, so I'm not afraid to dabble! ...the key for me is only making small changes and recording what you change and by how much...so you can return to stock if it all goes Pete Tong...thanks for the advice though, appreciated...

    • @rowlandstraylight
      @rowlandstraylight 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not really a black art. Any form or mechanical engineer (that is to say an engineering degree in a relevant field and a preferably a Charter, rather than a technician posing as such) will be able to tell you that the field of Vibration and Control and its applied area of Vehicle Dynamics is rather well researched. A spring and damper arrangement can be modelled with a simple differential equation, although once we get to valved dampers with separate compression and rebound, it's time for a coffee and a whiteboard and slow/fast compression rates as you find on the high end trick parts gets quite interesting and difficult to model.
      The compression, rebound and preload adjustment is enough to tune the system to your weight and make some tweaks to the handling. You will probably achieve an improved road feel to the ducati by backing of compression and rebound damping and carefully checking laden sag, adjusting preload to compensate, however you will likely be limited by a relatively firm and linear spring.
      To get the compliant feel of a yamaha on your ducati, you will likely have to change spring rates. A quick chat with a specialist will probably save you a lot of time by pointing you in the right direction for more major changes, and will likely confirm what I have said about spring rate.
      For your reference I have a BEng in Automotive Engineering, although my studies progressed outside the automotive and mechanical fields and I now work in the music industry. I have some race and race setup experience on 4 wheels.
