I guess these bikes are ok for someone young moving up from maybe a 125 but for me if I wanted a sports bike I'd pay a bit more and get a CBR600 or ZX6R as they're proper supersport bikes or go for a naked like the street triple or MT09 Btw another negative I think of this bike is the clocks compared to the TFTs all the other manufacturers are fitting seem really basic and dated.🤔

Sounds like the head bearing wasn't fitted properly, when installing, the stem needs to be torqued to seat the bearing, released and re-torqued when installed. If this process isn't followed, the bearing will seat into place under breaking, and a gap will develop between the stem and bearing. So, when breaking there is a knocking/rattle as the gap increases.
had a similar issue with my trident, granted, my roads are not perfect, but still, after 4-5k km there was a creaking, a rattle noise. The mechanic tightened it and asked me to come back to change it on warranty if it happens again.
It’s not bearing to stem, it’s bearing to seat. Preloading the bearing set can vary and can take a few goes at it. Braking is slowing down, breaking is altering something with force.
Many launch rides have reported something not right with front end, including driving too much and not so confidence inspiring handling. I hope it gets sorted, adds to the MEH feeling about it.
I do wonder why they haven't put the 765 engine in from the street triple. .that would be lovely then. . Having got the 765 RS I can imagine in sports bike mode that could be good fun!
Interesting one Andy it has the looks which I do like but maybe better to buy an old 675 for that fun factor and a lot less pennies that's if you can find a good low milage one that's been taken care of and there are some around too 😉👍
Another great video! I wonder if they should have called this bike something other than the ‘Daytona’ as it already came with such an expectation. I’m keen to try the gsx-8r 😁
A lovely looking bike, especially in the White, my OCD about the headlight would put me off before I even considered it, my Ninja 1000sx has twin dipped beam lights whilst riding so I don't see it being a legal issue.
Isn’t that the case on all bikes? I didn’t notice it was particularly loud on the Daytona, I always wear earplugs because as I say it’s always noisy on a motorcycle!
@@TheMissendenFlyer yes, over 60 km/h, ear plugs are definitively necessary! But some bikes have nasty turbulence due to suboptimal wind screens, which makes 30km/h even too loud... Honda xmax scooter is such a vehicle!
I own Daytona 660 and I love it. Having said that, I do not have any experience with other Triumphs with triple engines. One big negative is low handlebar position, since this was supposed to be a street bike with fairings. I sat on 765 RS at the dealership and that bike has nicer rider triangle compared to Daytona 660. Also, I've installed shift assist on my bike which brought riding experience to another level. My front.... scratch that... bike's front feels fine; the only quality issue is with the left mirror which keeps coming loose and it moves under hard acceleration.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Unfortunately mirror moves easily even when the bolt is torqued to a spec. I'll probably install lock washer and see how it goes. One more reason why I went with Daytona 660 vs (for example) GSX-8r: in my book triple engine makes the best sound compared to all of its competitors.
As far as I know, manufacturers do the "only one running light" thing because bikes with only 1 light have, statistically, less crashes then bikes with 2 lights.
Good video I am in full agreement with you! Hate the cons( mostly front lighting) and I had the 660 trident it seemed much more punchy and engaging ! So this just lacks that special feeling! But looks great in red the only colour to have? I don’t know how well they are selling?
Whilst Triumph are understandably capitalising on the need for this type of machine, surely they are big enough to give us something truly exotic as well, a bike catering for the aging motorcycle community with desirability written all over it. Come on Triumph find a way to give us a bold / colourful machine by adding a fairing to the beautiful Street 765RS. As a loyal fanboy i'm keeping my beloved Speed 1050RS in the hope they sort out a road / sports machine that is way more desirable - and yes i have ridden the 1200RR somehow this didn't hit the spot for me.
Hi i have got the daytona 660 had it a few months now i am verry happy with its not meant to be a track bike plenty of usable power and build quality just like other triumphs seat is for me comfortable.I think that you need to test ride it and find out,
Interesting reflections TMF & I broadly agree. I also much preferred the GSX8R. The 660 is a decent bike but unremarkable, a bit flawed & slightly disappointing overall imo. However, it has bags of potential & with some relatively minor updates to the suspension & build quality, I think it could be really good. As for this particular one, maybe someone's been doing some clumsy wheelies & done the bearings in.
Thanks for this video. I agree with you. Triumph has a great triple engine and a great looking bike especially at the front. Not so much from the side at the front. Looks like they just throw farings on a Trident or something. But it looks great at the front. But not as nice as the honda cbr650r. But the real problems for me is the riding position. Its to lending forward. Just look at the Suzuki GSX8R and copy that then your home. Because the Suzuki has it all except for the ugly robotic front. But its so roomy and perfect riding position and it handles great. I think Triumph is stuck into making a kind of track bike but its not. Make this to more of a road bike like the Suzuki. Thoose who want a track wont buy this anyway. Im not into track riding at all. Triumph you have to decide what your customer are track riders or road riders who prefers more comfy riding for longer rides. Bring back more cheaper sporttourer. Its not a lot of competition out there except for the almost perfect Suzuki
Thank you Mr. Flyer. i think it's a shame that the "sensible" sports bikes aren't really quite enough for most riders, at least we get lots of choice these days. Maybe triumph will produce a 765 version? I think the single running light is merely a cost saving, what do you think? :>)
Think Triumph have missed a trick, following other manufacturers in to a crowded soft sports bike market, they should of gone for the premiun 765 Daytona we have all been asking for. Cheers Andy agree with your assessment, great review as always.
I feel like Triumph missed an opportunity here.. I like this bike in concept, but when it comes to execution, it’s a bit ‘neither here nor there’. Imagine taking the same basic concept (same base 660 engine, less committed riding position than a supersport, beginner friendly, and rather basic components), but going towards a proper sport tourer direction. Make the bike long and low, with ample wind protection (wider head, better wind screen), slightly higher handlebars, and a longer tail that’s designed to integrate a pannier system nicely. Tune the engine for middle-range torque and longer gearing; so it’s easy to use as a commuter in town, and will cruise comfortably on highways. Oh, and don’t skimp so much on the quality.. increase the price a bit if you have to.
Great video, but as any bike, not good for everyone. Love my Daytona 660, I didnt compare it to other Triumph triples and at under 10k US preferred it over the others in its class. Bikes are always personal and rarely practical. It looks 100% better than the Suzuki. Honda's are always handsdown better bikes. Aprillia too unreliable, Kawa is ugly too. BTW, white looks so good 🙂 I agree with the fit and finish issues, it absolutely should be better. Where is the meh youtube button? 🍞
The market is turning it's nose up at the soft sports bikes, the R7 was never a big seller from launch with the riding position putting lots off. Do see a few out and about. CBR650R, steady seller for Honda. It's been around for years. Aprillia 660, never seen one on the road. This triumph, I know a few who have test ridden and been disappointed. One brought the 8r instead. Though I suspect that wont stay long. It's worth pointing out the cbr600rr has a waiting list. People who are in the market for sports stuff are heading for the real ones.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Forgive me, I forgot to say great review of the bike. Even if people don't like it. That's no reflection of you putting the effort in to get it and make the review. :)
The R7 isn’t soft though aside from the engine. The chassis and riding position is very sporty. The GSX8R had handlebars like something my nan would ride and pound shop suspension.
Brits and their love for sports bikes 🙂. Here in the Netherlands, most riders choose a naked bike, a sports tourer or an allroad bike. All of them sitting upright and a bit more practical bikes for commuting, touring. You will see sports bikes also of course as well as cruisers but they’re a minority.
Just to correct you, most of the motorcyclist in the UK are 60+ and have mainly adventure bike/ naked bikes. Yes we all had sports bikes at one time, but grey hair & no hair have put a stop to it😂
A couple of things occur to me about your review. The only other reviews I have seen have all been where lady riders were the reviewers. They all raved about the bike and said it was just perfect. Maybe, it is geared to the lighter or more gentle rider. The second thing related to the front lamp. As you live in the UK, it is a construction and use legal requirement to only have ONE lamp illuminated on dip beam. If you want to solve the offset look of the bike, you are going to have to move to another territory! 🤣🤣.
If it's only the look why be bothered? You can't see it whilst on the bike and when you turn the ignition off and walk round the bike you still can't see it. 😊
Have an 08 Sprint 1050 ST, rather stick with that, loved riding her and will do a last goodbye this year but after 11 years, going BMW K 1300s as next bike, sadly parting company with Triumph.....I will not be buying this bike, never thought I would say that
I would imagine if they have this bike, which would be an "entry" bike, and there is no place to move up in Triumph if you want a sport bike (speed triple rr I guess, but that is a leap not move) Triumph it seems will, or should be at least, be reintroducing a new Daytona 765. Otherwise people buy this and then what, go buy a Japanese mid sport bike or liter bike even (price of a Japanese liter is still cheaper than the speed rr). I say it's only a matter of time before we see a new Daytona.
Im hopeful they do a 660R or the mods have their way with it. I adore the seating position even more than my 675R Triple, but the Daytona 675R is too aggressive for the riding I like to do. But currently, this 660 feels like it'd just be a complete downgrade components wise. Unfortunate. Leaning towards the Suzuki after all
As a Street Triple 660 Owner I can completely understand where an updated version of this engine doesn't fit in as well. Its trying to be more than it can be wanting to close the gap to the 765 but put itself ahead of the Trident etc. The bike seems perfect as a moderate sized daily but its kind of in the zone where its not enough one side and too much the other.
So many choices out there. Same as with women. Be careful as you'll have to live with it a good while. Lol. The hardest thing I'd have to learn is how to enjoy riding in the wet as often as I've seen you do. 👍👍
Likely that knock from the front is headraces a touch loose, easy to sort in a minute or so. Great bike and it’ll be a winner for triumph. They’ll fly out the door.
Fortunately. A bit of rain doesn't stop some white bikes coming out? I was down in California yesterday. It was pissing rain. I guess the Redwoods need it. 😀

Triumph could well sell me a Striple 765R , don't think they're going to sell me a Daytona 660. I just don't want the sports bike position ! ( I'm TOO old , in my mid 50s !!!)
you highlighted 675 in white lettering when you said "765" . Well there was a limited edition 765 Daytona a couple of years and obviously the 675 that ran for quite a few years ! sorry , I'm being a pedant !!! 🙂
If you have ridden a lot of bikes in your life and better ones than this (765RS) then it will seem a bit Meh! I think the target customer for this bike is someone buying their second bike moving up from their beginner 250 ~ 400 cc bike. It is priced to complete with the current crop of 650-800 cc middleweight bikes that are "okay" but not outstanding but it is different insofar as it is a triple in a world of parallel twins. That being said, if I were going for a Triumph triple I'd get a 765R/RS as they are a lot more engaging and probably more comfortable to ride on longer distances. . .but they are a lot more expensive and not everyone can afford one.
@@101BadBreath That’s true… Of course, my stab is really at the Euro 5 emissions BS. It’s going to reach a point where you won’t be able to mod your bike… period.
Good observation, I've had this problem on two new bikes in the past too. :>/
Nice looking bike but not as nice as the Aprilia
Many launch rides have reported something not right with front end, including driving too much and not so confidence inspiring handling. I hope it gets sorted, adds to the MEH feeling about it.
Possibly the Trident has more low down power but runs out of steam earlier? but with more low down power in everyday riding in UK it feels quicker?
I do wonder why they haven't put the 765 engine in from the street triple. .that would be lovely then. . Having got the 765 RS I can imagine in sports bike mode that could be good fun!
Interesting one Andy it has the looks which I do like but maybe better to buy an old 675 for that fun factor and a lot less pennies that's if you can find a good low milage one that's been taken care of and there are some around too 😉👍
Great vid. Did think the dash looks a little lack luster in the days of TFT’s.
No, I don’t, I actually prefer this set up to some of Triumphs TFT efforts.
Another great video! I wonder if they should have called this bike something other than the ‘Daytona’ as it already came with such an expectation. I’m keen to try the gsx-8r 😁
Yes I did like the Suzuki I must say…
A lovely looking bike, especially in the White, my OCD about the headlight would put me off before I even considered it, my Ninja 1000sx has twin dipped beam lights whilst riding so I don't see it being a legal issue.
No I don’t get it either….
Bro can you explain me how is the ergonomic of this bike is it aggressive ? Will i get lower back pain and neck pain ?
Depends how young and fit you are - it's not for me (mid fifties, reasonably fit)......
My Daytona does not have the front end knocking issue, although previous models, street triple 675 did
Good to hear an honest review. Sounds a bit limp.
I was going to ask how it compares to the GSX 8R, But I think you already answered that question
It looks great till you get to the rear end. It’s like they ran out of money and then shoved a big number plate bracket thing on it to compensate.
I suppose the wind noise is very loud, considering the turbulence you mentioned?
Suely easily fixed? Glad you're loving the bike!
Yes that is the type of reasoning I’ve heard…..
If you want his honest opinion about the engine, go to 4:40. If you want his British opinion about the engine, go to 5:40. Thank you.
Hi i have got the daytona 660 had it a few months now i am verry happy with its not meant to be a track bike
plenty of usable power and build quality just like other triumphs seat is for me comfortable.I think that you need to test ride it and find out,
Indeed - this review is only my opinion of course, I’m not saying I’m right!!
Sounds like the triple tree nut on top is not torqued down enough. Causing a little play there.
Could be that - just a little play in the system somewhere
It looks very nice and sporty. But the cockpit area doesn't looks sporty.
nice honest vid andy
Thanks 👍
"Let me know what your front end feels like"😂
I'll do no such thing!
You know what I meant!
Thank you Mr. Flyer. i think it's a shame that the "sensible" sports bikes aren't really quite enough for most riders, at least we get lots of choice these days. Maybe triumph will produce a 765 version? I think the single running light is merely a cost saving, what do you think? :>)
No I don't think it's for cost saving....
I feel like this would be a good bike to introduce new riders to world of sports bike.
Agreed
Saw another review of this that said the front ABS was very intrusive. That isn’t the cause of your knocking problem, is it?
No it’s not an ABS issue - defo a bearing or some such
Was the juddery front end just a case of over zealous ABS?
No definately not.....
Think Triumph have missed a trick, following other manufacturers in to a crowded soft sports bike market, they should of gone for the premiun 765 Daytona we have all been asking for. Cheers Andy agree with your assessment, great review as always.
The Daytona 675 did not sell well which led to its discontinuation. I do not think it will come back.
@@christiand.7930 I think you maybe right, can't see them now making Daytona 765 but a big shame.
Yes I agree - Sport tourer would be better - but then I guess that's where they are with the Tiger sport 660.
Ah you’ve got to love it, the very next video that popped up after this…was from someone in the states titled how to ride in a heat wave…sigh
Hilarious!
This can make a decent "first big bike". But not quite "challenging enough" for seasoned riders.
Can you try and review a MT-10 SP please.
Yes, it would be pretty useful if we didn’t just have the heart button, wouldn’t it! Come on You Tube, make it happen!
Interesting….
@@TheMissendenFlyer Forgive me, I forgot to say great review of the bike. Even if people don't like it. That's no reflection of you putting the effort in to get it and make the review. :)
Yeah if I'm in the market segment for these kind of bikes I reckon I'd settle with either the Honda or the Suzuki, both are safest choices.
The R7 isn’t soft though aside from the engine. The chassis and riding position is very sporty. The GSX8R had handlebars like something my nan would ride and pound shop suspension.
@@gk73man51 The 8R I think is somewhat of a Ninja 650 on steroids
Brits and their love for sports bikes 🙂.
Here in the Netherlands, most riders choose a naked bike, a sports tourer or an allroad bike. All of them sitting upright and a bit more practical bikes for commuting, touring.
You will see sports bikes also of course as well as cruisers but they’re a minority.
Just to correct you, most of the motorcyclist in the UK are 60+ and have mainly adventure bike/ naked bikes. Yes we all had sports bikes at one time, but grey hair & no hair have put a stop to it😂
@@marksimpson5218 so you don’t correct me but you give an addition.
Not going to be chopping in my 675R any time soon!
Totally agree!
Glad we concur!
Have an 08 Sprint 1050 ST, rather stick with that, loved riding her and will do a last goodbye this year but after 11 years, going BMW K 1300s as next bike, sadly parting company with Triumph.....I will not be buying this bike, never thought I would say that
Do you prefer the Honda CBR650R?
Don't recall having ridden one though without checking so can't really comment....
👍 hi Andy👋
Hello 👋
Warped discs will cause a shudder under breaking
No it wasn't that.....
Leaning towards the Suzuki after all
Made to be someone’s first big bike, and it will sell in droves. I couldn’t be less interested in it.
Some people will think you have a light out'
I think those old geezers with points ignition will have the last laugh. Thats if they can stabilise fuel to last after an EMP
Yes riding in the wet is seldom fun…
Maybe, if you wouldn't have had the Street Triple, it might not feel so underwhelming?
Yes may be!
Ah.. the Trident Sport 660. It’s an okay bike for what it is. 😊
👍
Likely that knock from the front is headraces a touch loose, easy to sort in a minute or so. Great bike and it’ll be a winner for triumph. They’ll fly out the door.
Let's hope so!
Fortunately. A bit of rain doesn't stop some white bikes coming out? I was down in California yesterday. It was pissing rain. I guess the Redwoods need it. 😀
Doesn't seem like it was particularly hard on your shoulder this one.
Not too bad for short runs only….
The light issue is a European directive and effectively all bikes ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ think I'd find it hard to beat my K6GSXR, and the SV 1000 , both for that price,, but the gsx8r seems a better bike,, from northern Ireland ☘️
Easily fixed with a bit of wiring and a soldier iron
Can’t be, my Tracer 7 has both on when on dip/DRL. Strangely enough the Tracer 9 doesnt.
My Tuono 660 has both headlights illuminated when on low beam, so how does your "European directive" fit with that?
Triumph could well sell me a Striple 765R , don't think they're going to sell me a Daytona 660. I just don't want the sports bike position ! ( I'm TOO old , in my mid 50s !!!)
you highlighted 675 in white lettering when you said "765" . Well there was a limited edition 765 Daytona a couple of years and obviously the 675 that ran for quite a few years !
sorry , I'm being a pedant !!! 🙂
Yes you are right of course, my slip of the tongue/brain.....
I'm not getting notifications from TH-cam for this channel...
I don't know what TH-cam are up to sometimes....
The comical exhaust pipe on that thing says it all…
I mean it's quite an easy change.
@@101BadBreath That’s true… Of course, my stab is really at the Euro 5 emissions BS. It’s going to reach a point where you won’t be able to mod your bike… period. The emissions generated by modern cars, and bikes, is so low already. The climate nut jobs are forcing creation of lower powered motorcycles that run too hot. Beyond that, Triumph threw a fairing onto a Trident and called it “Daytona”.
@@68orangecrate26 Emission reductions don't matter when it will all eventually become electric or hydrogen anyway.... So suck it up buttercup, put your big girl panties on ...oh god another who thinks a name is important and makes any difference lol ...This is low hanging fruit for people who want to feel entitled... please don't be this shallow. No one cares about an R7 being called an R7 anymore .. this no different ...nobody actually cares.
Short and sweet no to the bike... less than 10 mins. I love such reviews to be honest
I will never buy another bike that has to be hooked up to a computer to diagnose faults. I want a 1990s Kawasaki ZX6R.
When CF Moto launch the 675 shortly I reckon it will steal huge sales. Quality wise they will be very similar. One built in Thailand from Chinese parts and one built in China from Chinese parts. The CF much better looking in my opinion
Yes I feature it in this Saturdays video…
I think they should make a daytona 900 now....
It's a reasonably well priced chinese sporty bike which you can safely thrash on the road.
No more to do with the Chinese than any other bike.
The frameplastic is the biggest bug and the bike feels toy like
You looked uncomfortable on that bike, being myself taller and heavier, heaven knows how I'd look on it.
I get a knock on my moto2 when I break hard
Nice bike . 50 years ago it would have been fine. Not for me now!
Fair enough!
“White vans stop play”
When you really think about it, all sport bikes are kinda Meh these days. It is a bit of a fading market and I think Triumph went for a blend of target price and acceptability.
