    First of all, it’s not the M2 chip in the iPad that makes it slower. It’s the bus speed that’s included on the M2 iPad. The M2 chip itself has massive power. The bus speed is what is limiting the full potential and scope of transfer protocols… depending upon what you have you may have access to Thunderbolt 3 … if you connected a specific thunderbolt 3 drive, which is different than USB 3.1 GEN 1 or USB 3.1 GEN 2 … this is part of the confusion when it comes to USB protocol via cable and or host device. The proper express and or serial bus is necessary to achieve the performance of the newest technology. Apple, and its proprietary architecture specifically limits what protocols they allow on certain devices based upon the times the devices they were produced. Going forward you want to make sure your devices architecture, matches the bus speed ie) SSD / Flash / SATA / 2.0 / 3.0 / 3.1 …etc
