Thank you some much for these videos. I have successfully removed the ring gear and have the kit on order to replace. I really appreciate your humor as well, you make it fun and informative. I didn't have the correct disc for my "whizzer-wheel", which is totally what I am calling it from now on, but I found a good flat head or chisel and a hammer knocked the ends off cleanly as well.
I thought at the start of the video, i would be seeing a heat removal like on a cars flywheel and the shop catch on fire! haha . Glad to see its just bolted on for when i have to do this on a B&S one day- Thanks Mr T !!
What advice can you give me on choosing alternative carburetors to run a twin carburettor setup on the Briggs 20HP opposed twin engine. My engine has had engine porting and i would like to increase the intake airflow over the restrictive standard carburettor.
It does take time editing. Terrible tragedy this year one of taryl dear family members died. He use to do editing for the taryl show. Anyway they carried on.
Hello thanks for the flywheel removal info. I have a 14 h p vanguard motor with a big nut on top of the flywheel. What size socket do they mostly take?
Great video as usual,, Taryl i need ur help! I have a small ebgine repair an stuck on a riding mower problem. I have replaced the solenoid, key switch, blade an break swit h. New battery. New fuse. I have no power past the key switch, after replacing safety switches, as soon as you turn the key, drains the battery dead.. im outta options. But since u da man, an i need my dinner. Thought id see if u had any tricks.. thanx
If you’re replacing a plastic ring gear on a Briggs Intek V-twin there’s a real likelihood that you’ll break the thing getting it on. While contemplating why Briggs ignored the decades-long practice of machining a reliable flywheel/ring gear out of steel, do this with your Intek gear job: 1. With a wire wheel in a mini grinder, clean the place where the gear sits until it shines. 2. With a sanding disk in the grinder, chamfer the edge the gear must fit over. 3. Using a dead-blow hammer, start to CAREFULLY tap the gear into place on one edge while making sure it is aligned over the holes on the flywheel. Install one of the attaching screws to ensure correct alignment. 4. With a heat gun, warm the gear while slowly tapping it into place until it is fully seated. Naturally, you can use hand tools (wire brush, file, emery cloth) in lieu of a grinder. And maybe your gear will slip off and on. But mine didn’t, and safely getting it on required all the above steps, during which I had a better idea of why Briggs filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2020.
I have a problem with my riding lawn mower attached a snowblower I have it working but when I go to start it it breaks the starter gear 16 tooth ! Could I change the ring gear to a steal and the starter to steal 14 tooth
Thanks for the video. Jus got done replacing mine. I used a old chisel to get the tip of the rivets off and took about 3 wacks and then punched out the rest of them
I need to replace the top magneto pulley on my dads Honda HRU217D lawnmower (GSV190 engine) because I accidentally cracked it,I was trying to check the compression with the exhaust rocker arm removed by winding it over with an impact wrench & it cracked because it was aluminium & I didn't realize it had that much compression. Luckily, they don't cost that much to order from New York (about $30 AUD),I did order a set of 014 rings for a later model engine as the original ones are the 004 rings, his is the very first of the GSV190 engines (2003) & the rings are not interchangeable between pistons. I still may give it a leakdown test when I buy the tester online as it sometimes burns oil,but I think it will need new rings as they still may be a bit worn, the leakdown tester will come in handy on my Briggs 3hp mower as it smokes a tiny bit. I'll need to order the newer piston & oil seals when I get a job which makes it cheaper than trying to chase up the original 004 rings which are no longer available from Honda, only whatever of the 004's are old stock & more expensive. I had to be careful ordering the magneto pulley because the horizontal shaft GSV190 engines came with a cast iron magneto whereas the vertical shaft models have an aluminium one.
I clicked on this this afternoon, and there were 90 views. Paused the video, and just came back to it, then clicked LIKE and refreshed the vid. It's 11:30pm and it's up to 11k views now, WOW.
Taryl, I'm a long time subscriber. I know I set the governor the right way when I rebuilt the engine, but now I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between a governor noise and a surging carburetor. They seem to do the same thing. CAN that governor arm going to the slinger be replace? I need HELP
That's it Taryl, you can sell a line of attaching utility platforms for carrying power equipment that install in a small drawbar hitch at their rear bumper ! Awesome ! You can get everybody hooked up with the right accessories to do their job, they can remove them from the hitch when not in use ! That's it ! Eureka ! I can see it all now.
The question is could I flywheel from plastic to metal? Is there a kit to convert plastic to metal? And if have the part number kit! Thanks for your video I have learned a lot!
Do they makum for Tecumseh 10hp, from about mid 90's I need to put electric starter on generator!! Can I just put a ring gear on the stock flywheel! I have seen 120v starters for snow blower engines like this, bit I'm not interested in that, if I need to start it. I don't have 120v!!
Awesome video as always. Seems like it just started and is over already, hate waiting another week. Hey it looks like wood roach is with my ex now, sure looks like her car these days. Lol
You'll also want to clean the alternator/stator magnets after you clean the mating surface and make sure no magnets are damaged or loose wile you're at it.
Sir, Taryl. There is a need, for a piece, of railroad track, 3 feet long, UNDER YOUR BENCH. Weld 2 inch pipe, onto it, at an angle, so to make a sawhorse type of thing. Re-design, the bench, over this on the FRONT edge. NO more 'bouncing betties'. i got several, as well as other track stuff. Handy for stands, for lights, grinders, etc.
Ain't no problem, I once put a ducati 350 street bike in the trunk of my 71 plymouth fury. Get er done......course the trunk on the fury is bout as big as a short bed pick up, lol.......
I deal with customers like that all of the time. They either never bring the proper vehicle for what they’re wanting to load or it’s crammed full of crap. Common sense isn’t so common any more. 🤦♂️

Thanks for the video. Jus got done replacing mine. I used a old chisel to get the tip of the rivets off and took about 3 wacks and then punched out the rest of them
I also noticed that my holes on my new gear didn't line up and I could only use three bolts? Any ideas. Seems to be ok lol
