I have driven in a 21 and 23 dodge Durango, A 20 Honda CRV and a 21 Ram 1500. All of them have car play. The Durangos and CRV is wireless, the truck is not. In my experience the Durangos and the CRV likes to drop connections in heavy traffic. I never have any connection drop out on the truck. Mileage may vary based on the vehicle and conditions though
You'd be looking at a full head unit swap for the 4th gen. If people can comment here that would be great, but I'd also recommend taking a look at Crutchfield.com. They will let you sort by vehicle compatibility so you can see exactly what would work with your exact setup.

I haven’t gone too far since plugging it in yesterday, but that would be a bit of a bummer if it drops in traffic.
Would this work with my Sony XAV 5000? It’s a aftermarket radio. I’ve been looking and can’t seem to find one haha. Let me know! I have a ‘14 Malibu.
If it supports CarPlay with a cable you should be able to plug something like this into that same USB port and go wireless!
Where can I find it?
This is on Amazon. It’s called carlinkit.
Anyone have a 4th gen 4Runner? What’s the best and cheapest apple carplay for pne
