Stitching Sunlight: How Embroidery Can Capture Light
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 ส.ค. 2024
- In Week 28 of the Stitch Journal I'm showing you how I have stitched some sunlight. It's all about light and shade.
Seed Stitch is new to the Stitch Journal and is used as shading for the clouds. The rays of sunshine are stitched down with running stitch.
Whether you're a beginner or a more experienced I hope you'll find inspiration for creating your own stitched background for embroidery.

Marion, I think you are the light in our lives. I look forward to your videos and love rewatching them. You've taught me lots of new things and made me tackle projects that I would have thought were too difficult. Thanks so much, Suzanne
Oh Suzanne ... what a lovely thing to say..thank you so much..☺️💐
Your very welcome. My thread tangle is certainly growing with all the sewing.
In addition to being a fantastic, creative stitcher/crafter/painter/etc., you are also a philosopher! Your outlook on life is wonderful. You certainly make my life happier, any day with a “Marion” video is a god day!
☺️💐💐💐💐💐
Yes, please, on the stitches tutorials. You have such a precise but relaxed way of teaching that makes for fun stitching. Your landscape is cloth and thread art at its best. Just gorgeous! And congratulations are 21,000 subscribers. We are a fortunate group! Your garden video was beautiful and it was good to see you happy and comfortable in it now. Continue to take care Marion.
💐💐💐💐🌿🧵🪡
Incidentally I have a HUGE tangle. I gave my late Mum my cross stitch kits to look after and she extracted all the threads and made them into a tangle! When I found out (after she passed away) I was not impressed in fact I was furious, but as it happens she did me a favour bless her as I now have the best tangle ever!
😅 I can imagine you not being pleased.. But things change and evolve and now here we are with organic tangles to pull our threads from...🧵🪡
I say this from my heart, I'm so sorry for your loss. Just think tho, each time you pull a thread from your tangle now you will be reminded of your mum, whereas before you would have just got your kits. Sometimes life can sure have heart breaking twists, but I am reassured that God sees all and helps us through the shadows and back into the sunshine. I wish you the best God blessed day.
I so enjoy watching you create. My plan this winter is to follow along with you too do my stitch journal . Your such a beautiful humble artist.
You always amaze me with your vision of what can be! So creative 🦋❤️
You make this a path we can all take because you do it without spending silly money, using a pencil available to all instead of a fancy pen.Thankyou Marion for bringing sunshine into our lives.xxxx🐝🐝🐝🐝
I didn't think this type of embroidery could be done. Amazing, love the sun's rays. Thank you Marion. We watch you rather than someone else because we can relate better to the way you describe things and the way you show us. You suit me better than the others do. Just continue being you. Thank you.
Marion, you are a ray of sunshine! You gift your viewers with a glimpse of your creative artistry and we are all the richer for it.
Beautiful work. It’s not just stitching,it’s an art piece.

I love your rays of sunshine. 💖 And I agree with you that without our dark times we would never really appreciate our times of joy. 💖💖💖
The seed stitch detail is amazing.!
Thank you Deb. There'll be a seed stitch video on Friday too 👍☺️
Thank you Marion, I’m going through a tough time health wise at the moment and can’t do like I used to so watching you is a tonic. ❤
I'm sorry to hear about that Carol. I hope things improve for you soon and you can get back to what you'd like to be doing 💐
@@marionsworld24 thank you Marion that’s very kind of you. X
A very lovely and inspirational watch, as always. I'm not really a slow stitcher, but I do appreciate those who are and enjoy watching what comes from thread painting with fabric.
👍☺️
I’m not sure what to say! God has given you a great talent and I’m so happy to have found you. I love what you are doing with the landscape. How you do it is way above me🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️
You can do it you know... You just pick up a needle and thread and start somewhere.... Your own way doesn't have to be like mine... But it will still be beautiful and it will be your own 🧵🪡💐
Oh Marion❣️ I hope your heart is full of joy with all of these beautiful comments. They are so well deserved🥰👏🏼 I can only agree with each and every one of your lovely viewers. You are a truly special woman. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talents. 🦋🌻💖🇦🇺
Thanks so much Trish 💐💐💐

I absolutely love listening to you! You are so inspirational! Thank you! ❤

My late husband, blessings to him, used to “ paint light interrupted by objects.” Thank you for reminding me of lights n darks❤
What a wonderful way of putting it... ☺️💐
Marion, it was a lovely thought to gift a subscriber with the vintage sewing kit. I am sure the winner will treasure it for years to come.
🤞

Thank you for this wonderful video. You really explain the process so very well.
Wishing warmth and sunshine. Love watching you create works of art. Gives me the courage to try my own
Great 🪡🧵👍
Stitches from a master . Love it . Xx
Your choice of organza for the sun beams is genius! You are a wonderful resource. Thank you, as always.
They worked well... I did wonder whether I should have used a second layer, but it works well..
Those rays of sunshine are so beautiful. The whole project develops from awesome to even more awesome and I know, it will be absolutely most awesome when you are done with it. What a lovely idea!
Have a lovely week 🤗
☺️💐🪡🧵
Perfect effect by the use of the colors and the kind of stitches you chose to create the layers of the sky. I have learned a lot today.
☺️
Lovely rays of sunshine to come your way! I so enjoy everything you do. You add joy to me day! Thank you! Amy

Will try to send you some of our over abundance of sunshine here in Oregon. 🥵 It’s been slightly warm. Thank you for taking your time to make these videos, as they and you are so appreciated. Absolutely love your channel ❤❤
It hasn't arrived as yet... 🌧️ For the last two days 😏
This looks realistic. I like the thought of stitching 🌞 sunshine. Thank you for sharing this wonderful project.
☺️🌞☁️🌞
Oh this is beautiful..always wanted to do sunlight..you've given me the confidence to try! How well you show us 'the how to' of it!...wonderful!
We are all inspired to try different techniques and that is down to your wonderful presentation and you are so talented . What we all love is you being you. You was taught with love by your grandma to embroider and you’ve inherited great sewing techniques. Please don’t think you are not a good teacher. All you need to do is carry on being you, and you are generous to share your talents with us. I love watching you create and your landscape is coming on a treat. Thanks again, take care.
Thank you so much 😊💐💐💐
Its coming on lovely Marion! Yes please to the stitch tutorials ❤
Brilliant idea using sheer fabric for the rays. You're so talented, Marion. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful work. Love the sun and rays! Love everything about your landscape really.
Hello Marian the sun striking the corn field is so good just as looks on such a day. Love your clouds as well the seed stitches add so much. Thank you. 😊❤
Thanks Anne 🌞
The sunshine is absolutely divine! You're doing very impressive work. :D
Thank you so much 🧵🪡
This is coming along beautifully!
That is very very nice. I love it.❤😊
Hello Marion, your sunshine and clouds are fabulous, they give such movement to your piece. Thhanks for showing us how it is done 😊
You're most welcome Barbara 🧵🪡
Brilliant idea of using the shear fabric. I love that cat!!! I was just thinking about how you light up my life and fill my heart with joy and then my eyes glanced down to the post below and I thought, wow what a coincidence! What a positive impact you have on us.
Thank you for this. It means a lot 💐
The seed stitch works really well in the clouds. I love how the sunlight fades in and out.
What a stunning piece of work Marion, wonderful to watch you stitch 👏👏, I’d love to see short stitch tutorials, I have all of my fabrics and threads ready to follow along! Thank you for keeping me company in my early morning before getting up for work! Have a wonderful day from a chilly Hull 😊😊
I'm going to post short stitch tutorials every Friday.. I thought about doing shorts...but I just end up spending too long trying to edit things down. I'm just not adept enough at the technology 😏 People make it look so simple...but it all takes time..
Very cool 😎 I love seed stitch ! Wishing you sunny skies, Marion !!! 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Hope you get some sunshine and good weather. Amazing video…😊
🤞🌞
Enjoyed your stitching tonight. Love your sky and sunbeams. X
All set for some foreground beauties ☺️🤞🌼
Hello Marion, I feel for you, so I am sending you some of our winter sunshine. 🌞I enjoyed lovely warm sun and 16ºC here today. It amuses me to see our clothing differences for essentially the same temperature. You have a sleeveless dress, while I have jeans, long sleeve top, jacket and scarf! 🤣 You have created such beautiful subtle rays of light and the clever ways you have used seed stitch to shade the clouds in contrast is wonderful. 😊
I suppose it's what you get used to...😅 If it would just stop raining and get into the high 'teens we'd think it was glorious!😂
If only it was as easy as you make it look Marion, your imagination and creativity is endless, loving this project
It is Jean... you've got the idea now....🧵🪡👍☺️
Thanks for the flow of light and dark in our lives. 🤗
🌞☁️
Love the way you have used the organza for the sunbeams and i confirm basically all the other comments under this video: i love to be able to get a glimpse of your world!🍀💖
Thanks so much Machteld.. :)
Oh yes. Please do tutorials. You have such an easy, comfortable manner. You are a natural teacher.❤
I would love to have you take some of our 'sunshine'. It is predicted to be 112 F today.🥵
Send some over here... we'll take it 👍
Another great video Arian. You are amazing.
Absolutely gorgeous!
You make my day when u come on so clever
☺️💐
I wish you and me a lot of sunshine ☀️. Somewhere in the video you said you were wondering why we would like you to demonstrate the stitches as so many others on You Tube already do, well there are a lot of reasons why you should f.i. because you are a very good teacher and you have a lovely voice to listen to. I have learned so much from you but the best lesson I learned is to look better to things around me. Thank you, love Tineke
Thanks Tineke... I'm hoping to add stitches each Friday in little videos of their own...👍☺️
You are such a wonderful teacher, Marion. Congratulations on 21K subscribers! 💗
Thanks Michalia 💐 the thrifting has gone down a storm ☺️
So lovely as always, I love the way you have tackled the clouds it’s brilliant! 😊
I'm definitely happy how it turned out ☺️
Looks beautiful Marion.
Love it👍🧡💐
Absolutely love what you have done with this piece of work , it just has so much depth…..😍 also wish you lots more sunshine 🌞
👍
Oh Marion, thank you for this gorgeous demo. I love your style of embroidery. Doesn't that sun just leap off the page.❤ PS love the hair cut.
Absolutely beautiful piece showing your wonderful talent
Thank you 🌞☁️
Thank you Marion! I'm definitely going to try using seed stitch. It looks just lovely! ❤
Tutorial coming on Friday....👍
Glorious stitching, Marion. Your ideas of incorporating organza sun-rays and tulle clouds are magic in your application, You must surely have studied fine arts . Your understanding of contrast/values is superb. Glad to see the sun actually acknowledging your work.
Sometimes I wonder where I would have been if I had studied things like that... I would have known about different types of crafts and explored my own practice a lot earlier probably....🤔
@@marionsworld24 We all have crossroads, not always obvious. Formal art education frequently buries natural, intrinsic talent. Some never recover it. I'm glad you are you. Sending you some of our Canadian heat.
Hi Marion your little landscape is looking so beautiful, those clouds and the sun rays are a brilliant idea too! I do Love your little pincushion kitty, very cute! I can see why you brought it home with you. Your garden looks so pretty too! Wishing you some sunshine too.
The last couple of days have been lovely..🌞 hurrah!😊
Sooooo beautiful!
So beautiful when the sun shone on your fabric corn field. We have a pink sky down south this evening so I hope you have a sunny day up north tomorrow too 🥰
Hope so.. it's rained almost non stop for the last two days!
Thank you Marion. Nice to sit back and watch you once again create. I notice you are now up to 21K followers! 🥳 Congratulations. I was one of the early birds to be watching. I felt the pain when the needle went into the kitty cat! 😲❤
Poor 😺. It didn't occur to me at all until I was putting the pin in... 🥺. I don't think I can do it again poor thing....
Thank you for giving us some sunshine Marion. Also overhere in Den Helder, Holland, it has been pouring with rain. We are enjoying every moment of sunshine and your landscape is growing under your hands becoming again a beautiful piece of artwork ❤❤
My daughter had really bad storms yesterday in Berlin.... Rain, rain, rain.....
I have a question for you: some nice old lady gave me a lot of silk fabric, it's far too much for me and I want to share it.
Just let me know if you want some of it. It's not heavy so I can send you a package. Karin
Hi Marion. Once again your creativity is mind blowing! Beautiful landscape! Sending you lots of sunshine and warmth from Las Vegas Nevada USA! It's 111 degrees here today. Phew! ❤❤❤❤❤
Crikey... we've had a second day of non stop 🌧️ and it's only 14°🥶
You really inspire me to try different things. Never had a tangle before but think I'll start one. Stitching tutorials sound good. You're always teaching us. We like your style of sharing skills.
Thank you 👍☺️🪡🧵
Really enjoyed watching this video Marian they always give my mood a lift watching and listening to you to get up and do something creative it's also cold and wet outside Belfast where I live thank you❤
Sunny here this morning (Wednesday)
Lovely xx
Lovely sun rays. This page is looking great. (I have thread box envy)
☺️
@@marionsworld24 I’ve been keeping a keen eye out on charity shops for boxes that might work. I may also commission my Uncle to make a custom one. He has many wood off cuts and is an amazing carpenter. Let’s see what happens first.
Such beautiful stitching again Marion. I loved at the end how the sun shone through onto the cornfield. Just on cue. I am not sure what is going on with the weather. We are experiencing a mild winter, 12 degrees most days with very little rain. Very strange weather patterns, as you can see with your cool summer. Take care and I wish you sunshine. xx
👍
Oh this sky is so beautiful. Indeed the fabric is gorgeous and not even on my wildest dreams of acrylic colors or inktense II could make something so perfect. I haven’t started my page yet (still working on my roses from the past page) and my head is already spinning trying to figure out what I am going to do. This one will be a challenge for sure. Thanks Marion for your encouragement.
I'm sure once you get to stitching it will all work out. You can use plain fabric..or just put some paint on it. 👍🪡🧵😊
Pretty awesome
Hooray! Lunchtime with Marion 😊
☺️👍🧵🪡🌞
This landscape is progressing beautifully. Your little kitty pin cushion is adorable. I made myself an owl pin cushion and try to think of my pins as his feathers as I'm poking them in his little head!!!
☺️😺🦉
Beautiful!💕
Your amazing and so talented
😊💐🪡🧵
Once again a wonderful and calming video 😊 I feel just as you - i also could not stick pins in the little cat😂
Wonderful to watch you work so very intuitively. Way beyond any proffesional because of your special talent❤
Poor little cat's tummy. I just can't do it...
Congratulations on 21k followers! Your channel is growing quite quickly. You may be right about a professional having a plan and sticking to it but an artist will go with the flow of the project. You are definitely an artist. Your page shines with your talent.
I really appreciate that thank you. I never used to think of myself like that. 💐
Beautiful. I love it when the sun rays come thru the clouds.
🌞👍
I was thinking I might use a bit of bleach and do a 'discharge' on a darker blue fabric to create my sky.
I learn something from you every time you put a stitching video up. The discussion regarding light & dark was especially informative.
Oh Marie... that's such a great idea.. I wish I'd thought of it 😅👍 brilliant!
Thank you Marion for your video today. That sky fabric is just beautiful and so enhanced with seed stitch. I love the effect but I struggle with this stitch trying to keep it random. Thank you also for giving us alternative options and none of them costing a fortune,so appreciated for those of us with a tiny stash (and still collecting). Those sun rays are really effective, perhaps they are an omen and will bring us some summer here in the UK, we can but hope.
There's a seed stitch tutorial coming tomorrow. I've started to make a library of stitches that will come each Friday...
Excellent thank you.
This is very nice! I may have to continue to work in the one I abandoned last spring. No time then.
At least videos stay up forever... There's no hurry ☺️
Lovely as always Marion! Thank you for sharing!❤
I could see this same effect from moonlight on to a lovely lake! Thanks for the inspiration. I have some pictures that I took a few years ago trying to figure out how to paint it, but I think it is going to be an embroidered fabric painting.
That's a great idea, too. Thank you!
That will be lovely Terri..
Your stitch picture is so adorable!! Makes me want to look through my fabric for a piece that would work for the sky.
Congratulations on 21K subscribers 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
I'm sure I have all the fabrics and tools for creating sun and rays, but YOU make it look so easy. My brain is over-thinking how to lay out clouds randomly yet intentionally to actually look pleasing. Thank you for another excellent tutorial 🤗🌹🌥
I try not to try too hard...🤔 If you know what I mean... Let the needle and thread do their thing. I didn't even cut out a shape so if you have something sheer just try the same thing maybe?..
I wish you much sunshine ❤
💐
Oh hi Marion ive just foundvyou and id like to say im hooked.ive always enjoyed sewing embroidery and cross stitch but your applique is so beautiful ill have to have a go.thank you Marion you have another follower!!.Pauline.
