What an amazing person he is. Not your typical old cynic who looks down at the younger generations for how "easy" they've got it. He actually stays up with the times and technology and understands why he must. Its so refreshing to listen to an older creative speak of his craft and talents without bitterness or arrogance. A true genius.

He reminds me very much of a guy I fell in love with...He would go on these same tangents about things, not knowing what his point is and wondering when he’d get to it. And like Gary, extremely smart and creative. People often see being quirky as being weird, or bad. They rarely see the benefits of being different, which is a real shame. People would learn a thing or two from the quirky ones

@@TheMercury-13 Speaking from my spot on the Autistic Spectrum, the only real downside is having to live and function in a world designed by and for neurotypical people who look down on you for being different. Come to think of it, that's a pretty big downside, and life can be *very* difficult at times when you're not a well-off, self employed musician like Gary Numan. But I wouldn't trade in my atypical brain for anything because it has magic in it. Pretty much all the people I know with ASD feel the same about it. Even if being normal would make life easy, we'd be bored after living in our odd, obsessive, sideways and upside-down brains.

@@neuralmute As a 50 year old who's on the verge (I assume) of being diagnosed I would reflect that the only downside for me has been the isolation. Even if that has mostly been intentional and something I've needed I do see the consequences. Still it's been and still is an interesting ride and simply who I am. So like you I wouldn't change it or wish to be any other way :)

Working for animal, & people, charities, environmental & social justice campaigns - or 'just' quietly getting by, with integrity & kindness, wonderfully different & 'weird'; AS enriches the world far more than is realised - I reckon. 😉

You knew him personally? Or from our very distant view, we mistook his inner struggle to appear 'OK' in public as 'very different & full of himself'? Growing up unaware you have AS yet feeling, & being told, you are alien no matter how you try to 'fit', can give a demeanor that others will, & do, misread. People without AS tend to focus on the glib surface, but miss what's really going on.

Yes, loneliness is occasionally an issue, but I've had relationships before, and I assume I will again. Unlike most people, I can be very happy alone, so it's not a problem for me. Tomorrow is only half the story. If we didn’t pay attention to the past and actually dwell on certain aspects of it we never would have evolved to our current status. We would have died out long ago after eating the deadly plants and paying no attention to the friend who died soon after eating that thing recently. Sound convoluted? Nope. How do you think we learned what we can and cannot consume without it making us sick or dead? Memory, and passing learned information down to our offspring. We MUST dwell on the past to prevent recurring negatives and strive to repeat the positives. We know nothing of the future. We know too much of the past. Finding the balance is the hard reality needed by all beings. These popular phrases oversimplifying the truths of life are deceitful at best. They are EXACTLY like telling half of a story with many contrasts, surprises, lessons, and examples with which to judge ourselves and our actions. To just say carpe diem leaves out yesterday and tomorrow, so it is quite a tragic phrase and a monumental disservice to humanity. These kinds of semi-axioms are fodder for the predator, and sustenance for the prey.

Almost two years after publication, and not a single comment??? Okay.
I have to admit, I haven't exactly been the most stalwart fan of Gary, but I was a fan of 'Cars' and 'Metal' when they were first released. Sadly, after these two hits Gary kind of disappeared from the United States. I did not realize until very recently that HE'S BEEN MAKING MUSIC AND TOURING THIS WHOLE TIME! WTF? How, why was the US not in on this?
Decades later, I happen upon the live video of Gary with Trent doing 'Cars' and 'Metal' in Germany. It got me all riled up and interested in Gary, wondering where he's been all this time. Suddenly, there's a treasure trove of new (TO ME) music videos, and I am just enthralled. Fixated. Obsessed.
Suffice it to say that I am SO glad that I have been re-introduced to all that is Gary Numan. Aspberger's or no, he still crushes it, every time.

Gary - you’re brilliant and creative and your music moves and touches me! I love that you and your wife are still together! I’m grateful for your artistry and your humility! Please keep making great music! It matters so very, very much!

You are inspirational. I have always loved your music since way back when I was a young lad. I never took much time to find the man behind the music but now I have I am floored by your integrity. How
many obstacles you must have overcome especially unkind words. I love at the end when you laugh at the thought of bad reviews. Good on you. You are better than those with nothing better to do.

What an amazing guy. So down to earth, and yet the creator of so much genre defining music.

One thing I notice about Gary Numan/Webb is that his music is dark and serious, but in person he's bubbly, humble, and even playful. It's like his music is his alter ego.

Ups and downs, musically or not he will always have my respect despite the criticism i might administer at times. The guy made me love music at an age that lasts till today and for the rest of my life.
